― Revel to Valor Saints,
Chapter 1885 Fortune Favors the Bold

Revel is one of the Transcendent daughters of Ki Song. She was the first of the daughters to have Transcended.[1]

Appearance

She was a breathtaking woman with raven—black hair and eyes that seemed to be cut from pure obsidian. Her slender body was encased in a suit of dark leather armor, and she wielded a curved sword akin to a tachi, its pommel wrapped in a black silk cord.

With her alabaster skin, exquisite beauty, and cold expression, she was undeniably stunning... but, more than that, her presence was vast and oppressive, like the lightless expanse of a boundless, dark ocean.

— Chapter 1884 Fortune Favors the Bold

She had raven-black hair and eyes like two obsidian gems. With her dark clothes, alabaster skin, and exquisite beauty, she was undeniably striking.[1]

In Chapter 2740, she looked like she always did, with pure alabaster skin, black eyes that seemed cut from precious obsidian, and a hair that was like waterfall of beautiful black silk, which she wore in a messy bun. Despite her fearsome reputation, her living quarters were described as unexpectedly cozy and untidy, furnished with expensive furniture, a comfortable bed, and cluttered with takeout boxes, junk food wrappers, empty soda cans, and piles of books brought from the waking world. She was shown to read questionable novels and dressed casually in stretched-out sweatpants and a threadbare sweatshirt.

Personality

She had depth in her gaze and a subtle coldness. She looked forlorn, missing something she would never have.[1] According to Sunny, she is antisocial[2] and a reclusive homebody that preferred to hide in her caves unless there is a mission to accomplish.[3]

In Chapter 2781, Revel was described as a proponent of a strict separation between work and private life. She refused the Citadel offered to her by Nephis, preferring to stay in her den below the Jade Palace when she was not leading troops into battle. At the present moment, in an ironic twist of fate, she was on the Forgotten Shore.

Aspect, Abilities & Flaw

Her Aspect allowed her to move freely within the darkness.[4] Her body can become part of the elemental darkness she unleashed, dissolving into ethereal dark liquid before returning to a tangible form, allowing her to travel at a tremendous speed, almost instantaneously.[5]

She had a physical augmentation similar to Saint's Mantle of Darkness, which Sunny believed was greater than Effie's. Effie's Dormant Ability was universal, while hers only worked within true darkness. Moreover, her Abilities allowed her to summon a flood of elemental darkness to anywhere she was.[5]

Transformation Ability

Revel's transformation had retained most of her human features, but her beauty had become even more breathtaking. Her height had increased to almost four meters. Her raven hair seemed to have grown longer, and two obsidian horns protruded from her head, curving slightly. She also had black, bat-like wings crowned with obsidian spikes. Her flawless alabaster skin and tenebrous eyes made her a beautiful demon or fallen angel.[6]

Flaw

She is afflicted with a Flaw that prevented her from stepping into sunlight. Due to this, several of the ice caves below the Jade Palace had been polished and cultivated by the builders of Clan Song, she resides there.[2]

Background

The Song sisters spent most of their childhood in the Jade Palace. Most of them had been anchored to the palace as Awakened after surviving the First Nightmare, and the rest would return each year for several months until the Spell called them.[7]

Trivia

  • Her trait of being able to move within the darkness, is a reminiscent of the Black Knight from the ruined cathedral, whom Sunny had killed years ago, and his own Shadow Step.[4]
  • Revel's sword resembled a tachi. The sword infected everything it touched with a plague of poisons, causing unbearable pain, paralysis, wasting, and necrosis simultaneously.[4]
  • Sunny and Revel shared a bleak style, as shadows could be mistaken for true darkness.[4]
  • In Chapter 1888, Revel was unsure if the Lord of Shadows was human as she can't smell his blood.
  • Her power was able to counter Sunny's abilities.[5][8]
  • In Chapter 1902, it was implied that her True Name is Lightslayer based on conversation with Nephis. However, in Chapter 2980, in the runes of Sunny [Dark Dancer] was included in his Shadow Domain Subjects.
  • In Chapter 1904, she and the other Song Saints in Vanishing Lake fled using the Queen's Blood.
  • In Chapter 1909, it was mentioned that Revel's imprint was so strong that it would take some time to overwrite, at least ten minutes or maybe half an hour.
  • Revel, Seishan, and Beastmaster once disappeared for a week after triggering the dollhouse's sorcery (inside the Toy Room of Jade Palace). They were pretty starved by the time their mother found them and reverse the sorcery.[9]
  • She was a reclusive Saint who dwelled beneath the Jade Palace, residing in the Ice Halls—an underground network of tunnels once used by Ki Song to house her legion of pilgrims. Revel freely controlled true darkness as her element, capable of drowning an entire chamber in it.[10]
  • In Chapter 2740, Sunny sought out Revel because he needed the help of a competent Saint who could fit into the Shadow Legion and whose absence would not significantly weakening the Longing Domain, making the reclusive Revel staying in the Ice Halls beneath the Jade Palace the only suitable candidate to assist with abducting and isolating a large number of people.
  • Revel possessed numerous books in her underground chamber, arranged in tall piles that were clearly dragged there from the waking world. Several of these book piles had toppled over, scattering books across the floor. One book was found lying near Sunny's foot and bore the title "I Didn't Mean… to Seduce the Northern Duke?".[10]
  • In Chapter 2741, Sunny offered Revel several explicit benefits to persuade her to join the Shadow Clan.
    • He first proposed granting her "the title and position of an elder in the Shadow Clan", emphasizing that she would effectively be the elder, since there are no other people of her caliber in his Domain, and noting that the power and authority that come with that title are no joke. Along with the position, he promised a lot of important work to do, adding that she would probably never be bored again.[11]
    • As further incentives, Sunny listed various benefits to becoming his subject, including "money, luxurious accommodations… a cool tattoo", specifically explaining that she would gain the Mark of Shadows, and all the powers that come with it, even if those powers might be less impactful given her existing strength and Aspect.[11]
    • Lastly, he offered her access to his Domain, stating that he ruled an entire region of the Dream Realm where there is no sun, where her Flaw would not be able to catch up to her, allowing her to roam the Forgotten Shore freely instead of staying in a cold basement. When she expressed attachment to her current living space, he further added that a better basement can be arranged, citing a lot of prime real estate in his city, such as a stunning historic cathedral, a demonic castle, countless unoccupied mansions and an entire system of catacombs.[11]
  • Revel expressed an unusual affinity for the Forgotten Shore, remarking that the place felt as though it was meant for her; in contrast, Seishan spent a decade trying to escape from it, while Revel was content to remain there.[12]
  • In Chapter 2830, Revel relocate the Dark Castle and make it a wandering fortress.
