“ Our goal is to preserve humanity, as it has always been. You can disagree with our method... despise them, even... but do not doubt our intentions. Everything we did, we did to build a better world for those who would follow in our footsteps. ”

― Ki Song to Cassie,
Chapter 2193 Greater Good

Ki Song was the ruler of the Song Clan and one of the Sovereigns.[10][5][2]

Appearance

Youth

The Awakening enhanced Ki Song's beauty, attracting numerous stares.[11]

Raven Queen

A corpse of a breathtakingly beautiful woman was sitting on the throne, dressed in a regal red gown. Its hem spilled down the steps of the throne like a river of blood.

The woman's chest was pierced by a sword, which pinned her to the back of the throne.

— Chapter 1840 Bathed in Starlight

The other was a breathtakingly beautiful woman in a regal red dress, walking across the vast expanse of bone with calm, mesmerizing grace. Her skin was pale like that of a corpse, and a light smile played on her crimson lips. Her raven-black hair was like a lustrous waterfall of darkness, and there was something eerie and vaguely appalling about her beautiful, enchanting eyes.

She was Ki Song, the Raven Queen... the Queen of Worms.

— Chapter 2210 Song, Vale

Ki Song is a breathtakingly beautiful woman with pale corpse-like skin, lustrous black hair, and a red gown that spills over her throne like a river of blood. Her mesmerizing yet eerie eyes betray a sense of distance, as if she has been long dead.[12]

Ki Song's original body is merely a puppet, like the two dead youths standing beside her and the numerous pilgrims in her service. She is animated by the power of her Aspect rather than truly being alive. She does not reside in a singular vessel. Instead, she exists throughout her countless puppets, present anywhere her pilgrims are. This makes her functionally immortal—to truly kill her, one would need to eradicate every single one of her bodies.[12]

Her puppets fight at the front lines of the Song Army, meaning she has experienced millions of battles and died millions of times without truly perishing.[12]

Personality

“ There is no one in the world who knows Ki Song, the Queen of Worms, better than I do. So, I tell you this: there is no end to the insidious schemes woven by that woman. You should prepare yourself to taste bitterness as her machinations unfold. However, I also promise you this — at the end of it all, we will taste the sweetness of victory. ”

― Anvil about Ki Song,
Chapter 1853 The King's Speech

She was known as a benevolent and charitable person.[5] According to Seishan, Ki Song is profoundly lonely. She has no one around her who isn't either her servant or her responsibility, making enemies more precious in a way.[13]

Based on Orum's memories, Ki Song's personality was shaped by isolation, ambition, and loss. Growing up lonely due to her mother Ravenheart’s frequent absences in the Dream Realm, Ki felt a deep, unwavering love and pride for her mother, who was powerful but fell short of being the strongest. This pride was mingled with a sense of neglect, especially in the company of aristocratic figures who saw her as lesser, despite her evident talent. Ki’s fierce independence and unyielding loyalty drove her to seek retribution against those who failed to help her mother during her final moments, revealing her ruthless side. These traits, paired with her journey on the Path of Ascension, transformed her into the powerful Queen Song, yet some core aspects remained constant despite her ascent to near-divine status.[14]

Aspect, Ability, & Flaw

Ki Song held authority over blood and decay and her Aspect exerts an insidious influence on the soul.[15]

Show/Hide Aspect Abilities

Received in Ability Chapter Mentioned Status Aspect Abilities
First Awakening
(After First Nightmare)
Dormant (Sleeper) 1936 Active Her Dormant Ability was the opposite of healing, allowing her to exacerbate any wound in a slow, but exponential process.
Awakening
(After first escape from Dream Realm)
Awakened (Awakened) 1938 Active

Her Awakened Ability allows her to animate and control inanimate objects like puppets. It is a useful ability that could create surrogate Echoes without actually receiving them from the Spell.[16]

In Chapter 2186 when Cassie unknowingly consumed a drop of Ki Song's blood, which allowed the Queen to control her like a puppet. This control extended to both her body and, to some degree, her soul. However, she retained access to her Aspect, suggesting the control was not absolute.[17]

Ki Song can prevent her puppets from rotting at will, even in extreme heat. She demonstrates this by rapidly decaying and restoring her own form, proving her complete mastery of puppetry.[17]

Ascension
(After Second Nightmare)
Ascended (Master) 2216 Active According to Caasie, Ki Song's Ascended Ability is transference. She can transfer any harm dealt to her body to one of her puppets, effectively making her unkillable unless all her puppets are destroyed. Additionally, any puppet she controls can become her primary vessel, allowing her to survive even if her current body is destroyed.[18]
Transcendance
(After Third Nightmare)
Transcendent
(Saint)
- Active
Ki Song's Transcendent form is described as a vast, living tide of blood vast enough to fill a sea.[18]

"The tide of blood Ki Song had turned into was vast enough to fill a sea, rushing forward like a crimson flood. The glistening red river moved above the ground, twisting in the air like a living creature..."[18]

Explanation

Her Transcendent form manifests as a vast, living tide of blood—so immense it could fill a sea—rushing forward in a crimson flood that twists through the air like a sentient creature. The glistening river of blood flows above the ground with an overwhelming presence, instantly dwarfing even the mighty King of Swords. Despite having originated from her small and fragile human body, the sheer volume and power of the form are undeniable. The moment she transforms, even the formidable Anvil is compelled to retreat, igniting scarlet runes on his black armor and levitating away to avoid contact. Yet the blood river breaches the distance in an instant, surging forward with terrifying speed and force, an unstoppable force of nature that redefines Ki Song's presence on the battlefield.[18]

Supreme
(After Fourth Nightmare)
Supreme
(Sovereign)
- Active

She held authority over death; thus she took anything that died in her Domain. Dead pilgrims would walk through the snow to Ravenheart, where they would enter the ice caves beneath the palace and become the Queen's servants.[3]

She was the queen of both the living and the dead. That's why people in the Sword Domain dubbed her the Queen of Worms, although this was ridiculous because there were no worms in the Ice Halls, where the cold was so severe that only the dead could live.[3]

In Chapter 2243, She commands a vast number of puppet constructs, which appear to be extensions of her will and can be sacrificed or transformed at will. Her control over blood is equally formidable—she wields a massive, sentient river of blood that responds to her command, capable of both offense and regeneration. Most strikingly, she can merge the remnants of destroyed puppets with this river to create monstrous vessels of flesh and blood. After her initial vessel was destroyed, she drew the scattered, decayed remains of her Titan puppets into the river of blood, which then surged forth and reshaped itself into an even larger and more terrifying construct—a colossal flesh golem towering at least a kilometer high.

Ki Song possesses a territorial domain.[19]

Ki Song expanded her Domain using the Citadels and also collected the dead.[20]

Her love for her daughters.[18]

Ki Song's flaw relates to her connection to her family. Following the traumatic loss of her mother, she faced her First Nightmare, gaining an Aspect and a Flaw that hinted at her sense of familial loss and an inability to build a family of her own. This may have driven her to adopt Seishan and other orphaned girls, symbolizing her attempt to fill the void left by her inability to have children herself.[21]

Other Abilities

Ki Song, despite not being as bright and eye-catching as her peers, quickly became one of the strongest members of her generation. She was known for being balanced and without glaring flaws, skilled in a wide variety of melee weapons with deadly skill, never missed a shot, and could defeat opponents in hand-to-hand combat.[22]

She possessed a deep well of knowledge and skills in wilderness survival just like her mother who was an experienced hunter. She excelled at adapting to any environment, subterfuge, tracking, and efficiently eliminating enemies.[22]

Background

Cohort

Reveal

Ki Song was formerly a member of Broken Sword's cohort. Among the Sovereigns, she was only slightly less famous. She had come from one of the lesser Legacy clans, and it was by her hand that it was elevated to the status of a great one. Ki Song was still the ruler of her clan, although she rarely appeared in public. It seemed that it was her adoptive daughters who mostly acted on her behalf.[5]

She was one from "Aster, Song, Vale" who had returned from the Fourth Nightmare wreathed in a new authority.[10]

Trivia

  • All of her adoptive daughters are beautiful monsters.[23]
  • In Chapter 1587, it was mentioned that Anvil and Ki Song (as Sovereigns) were actively holding back the Great horrors, including the Great Titan that had previously decimated the armies of both Valor and Song during the Battle of the Black Skull, to maintain control of the battlefield and ensure the continued operation of the Dream Gates used for civilian evacuation.
  • Her mother Ravenheart was an obscure Awakened warrior who was the founder of the Song clan.[24]
  • According to Anvil, there was no one in the world who knew Ki Song better than him.[25]
  • She had more than seven adopted daughters, but only seven of them have become Saints thus far.[26]
  • The princesses of Song all seemed to share the lineage of Beast God, despite not being related to her by blood.[27]
    • In Seishan's POV in Chapter 1924, Ki Song, bestowed upon her the blood of the Beast God, whether she wanted it or not.
  • She revealed that her mother had died while defending the Citadel from a volcanic creature.[22]

  • As a student, she once stated that the essence of combat is failure—believing that if someone is forced to fight, they have already lost. Yet, when Cassie challenges her on why she wages war despite this belief, Ki Song simply laughs and acknowledges that war is the greatest failure.[12]
  • Ki Song seemingly cares for Seishan and her sisters. This suggests she does not control them in the same violating manner as she does her other puppets.[17]
  • In Chapter 2190, Ki Song admitted that she missed Little Nephie a lot at the start.
  • In Chapter 2194, Ki Song feared that by attaining Sacred Rank, her emotions, thoughts, and identity would be altered beyond recognition, making her question whether she would still care for her daughters or retain any semblance of her former self.
  • A cocktail was themed after Ki Song named the Bloody Queen. The drink was bright red.[28]
  • It was mentioned by Morgan in Chapter 2496 that Ki Song left behind pieces of information, including crucial intelligence about Mordret that even their father did not fully know. She also left behind other unspecified valuables and countermeasures against Mordret's betrayal. Morgan had the advantage to plunder some of her inheritance due to being kidnapped by Nightingale, but Song sisters got most of it eventually.
