Mark of Shadows

Sunny discovered that Serpent could create lesser versions of itself, potentially allowing him to place a serpent tattoo on someone, resulting in a little soul snake born in their soul. Sunny was unsure if this snake was a new being or a manifestation of Serpent. He tried to mark his Shadows and Rain but it didn't work. He believed the soul needed to be awakened to nourish and accommodate the little soul snake and for the Mark of Shadows to take root. The Mark of Shadows was connected to the [Grace of Shadows], offering benefits without Soul Serpent parting with Sunny.^[1]

The snake tattoo called the [Mark of Shadows] was akin to an attribute that granted the host several abilities, including seeing in absolute darkness, walking stealthily in shadows, and sensing their movements. It also allowed them to control their soul essence. The snake could slither off their arm and manifest as a weapon. According to Sunny, the tattoo allowed Soul Serpent, the creator of the soul snake, to access their Soul Sea, allowing it to defend against any soul invasion.^[2]

Sunny's Aspect could augment himself, his Memories, his Echoes, his Shadows, and inanimate objects to a degree. He had never been able to augment other living beings, with the sole exception of Nephis whom he had been connected to by Shadow Bond before. Those bearing the Mark of Shadows, his followers, he could also augment but not other living beings.^[3]

• In Chapter 1844, Sunny invited Aiko and Rain to join his Shadow Clan; that was how they ended up with an intricate snake tattoo coiling around their arm.
• The [Mark of Shadows] protected Rain and gave her some abilities, but its main purpose was to confuse people. Rain wanted to keep people from discovering her lack of an Aspect and the snake tattoo bestowed upon her strange powers that could be seen as one.^[4]
• People bearing Mark of Shadows were conduits of Sunny's Supreme shadow sense, acting as his eyes and ears in the waking world.^[5]
