Background
He came from outside the Tomb of Ariel and was believed to have entered the true Great River with his subjects. His plan was to use the uniqueness of the Great River to help his people Transcend through a Nightmare but failed, as many of his people died trying to destroy "that which was defiled."[3]
According to Wind Flower, the goal of the journey of Daeron and his loyal warriors, who braved the White Desert and entered the Tomb of Ariel, was to imprint their souls into the Great River so that when challengers entered its Nightmare, there was someone to help them conquer it. It was a gamble considering their world was dying due to being consumed by the Dream Realm. Despite their struggles, they failed to rise to the challenge of the Spell. He was the only Supreme and had no successor to turn the tide of destruction, so he came up with a plan to raise an army of Transcendent warriors in the unique Nightmare, but this plan failed as well.[5]
After breaching the walls and fighting their way to the Citadel of Truth, they failed to defeat the First Seeker. The First Seeker is no longer a living being and is now a grotesque mass of flesh contained within the Citadel, spreading its tendrils across Verge. Anyone who touches it becomes infected by Corruption. They had no choice but to leave their fallen behind and retreat.[6]
History
Third Nightmare
Daeron was a valiant and wise king who ruled over a dying land. Refusing despair, he came up with a plan, gathered his companions and braved the desert to enter the Tomb of Ariel, where the Great River flowed endlessly from the future into the past. They built a city at the edge of dawn and gathered an army to vanquish the defiled city. However, the army was destroyed, and the king succumbed to madness. Consumed by wrath, he roamed the Great River for years. One day, he met a treacherous shadow, Lost from Light, who battled him, ultimately becoming his doom.[3]

Daeron, known as the Serpent King, stood as one of the two Supremes under whose banners the humans of the Tomb of Ariel rallied, alongside Cronos after he attained Supremacy. While allied with Cronos, Daeron did not see eye to eye with him on all matters, as he sought to destroy the First Seeker. However, he faced immense obstacles in doing so. The River People could not be assembled into an army because their cities were too far apart, requiring innumerable generations to unite them. The number of Outsiders had dwindled, and even the great power of the Transcendent wanderers from the Twilight Sea was not enough to help Daeron besiege Verge.[7]
According to Ananke, after King Cronos stopped the Great River, all surviving humans in the Tomb of Ariel gathered in Fallen Grace, where leadership was divided between Cronos and Daeron. Daeron sought to lay siege to Verge, while Cronos wished to create an impregnable fortress—a "fortress of time", a safe haven or ark to endure the endless storm. In the end, most of the River People chose to follow Daeron and the paragons of the Twilight Sea into battle rather than heed Cronos, and they lost. The First Seeker could not be destroyed, and instead everything that touched it was destroyed or Defiled, leading to countless deaths and widespread Corruption. Despite Daeron's repeated sieges of Verge, his glory, cunning, and bravery all ended in despair, as he could not kill the First Seeker. Over time, the River People grew fewer and weaker while the Defiled became stronger and more numerous, bringing their civilization to the brink of destruction. This decline culminated when Daeron himself was infected by a seed of Corruption during his final battle with the First Seeker, making his end inevitable.[8]
At that point, Daeron and Cronos joined hands once more and together achieved their goal: they destroyed the First Seeker, erased the Defilement from existence, and laid ruin to Verge. This was accomplished through a desperate plan—Cronos, unable to build his ark before, finally created one from Daeron's bones and Soul Sea, while Daeron helped devise the sorcery and sacrificed himself to form its walls, and Cronos sacrificed his remaining time. They created a miniature realm outside time (refer to Ark) and hid within it, abandoning the Great River to the Defiled. Deprived of humans to devour, the Defiled starved and eventually turned on the First Seeker and then on each other, until only bones remained.[8]
Trivia
- In Chapter 1288, The Azure Serpent, Daeron of the Twilight Sea, had once been a human. Instead of a gargantuan serpent, Sunny saw the shadow of a handsome man in his Soul Sea.
