Legacy Clans

A Legacy clan refers to a prominent family or group of Awakened with deep historical roots, typically established by powerful First-Generation survivors of the Nightmare Spell. While they often share common traits, such as ruling a Citadel or possessing a Legacy heirloom, these characteristics are not universal.^[2]

It is also a large, self-sufficient institution or a tribe. It consists of immediate family members and hundreds of other people who are professionals who manage properties, craftsmen, mundane soldiers, Awakened retainers, and their dependents.^[3]

“	No matter where you go, you'll be in the sphere of influence of one of the great clans, it's just that you can either be in its center, close to center or on the periphery.	”
― Jet to Sunny, Chapter 365 Young Prospect

The Legacy Clans, particularly the three Great Clans, were authorities in terms of personal power and combat prowess, surpassing the ancient Awakened in many aspects. They were harsher, more extreme, and better tempered than their ancient counterparts due to their rise in a hellish world. They had risen to resist the Nightmare Spell, being shaped into a formidable force under its harsh pressure.^[4]

All of the human territories in the Dream Realm fall under the purview of the Three Great Legacy Clans. Each of them spreads its influence and rules over three separate unconnected human enclaves in the Dream Realm. These territories are built around the three Great Citadels which are directly controlled by the great clans.^[5]

Legacy Clans, once symbols of elite power, had lost their prestige due to the surge of new Awakened after the Chain of Nightmares. The Great Clans were now eclipsed by the Immortal Flame clan, which stood alone in its supremacy. Nephis, the sole heir of the Immortal Flame bloodline, commanded the Fire Keepers, an elite military force formed by original members of the Dreamer Army and reinforced through a grand tournament that saw only 4,000 chosen from hundreds of thousands of applicants. This tournament was a global spectacle, offering both distraction and hope to the masses.^[8]

The Legacy Clans would not have survived if they resolved every conflict by spilling rivers of blood. Due to this, it is a kind of tradition that conflicts between clans are done using some kind of duel instead of a battle.^[16]

Each clan has its own way of teaching its heirs.^[17]

• According to Jet, the Great Clans have given up on Earth a long time ago. They have set their sights on building a new home in the Dream Realm instead of trying to protect humanity's old home from falling apart.^[18]
• The Great Clans are the most powerful Awakened in the world. They have their own agendas and are not always willing to help the government.^[19]
• For most lesser clans, the three great families are a monolith. Most of the time, they can only guess which Domain gives the order.^[20]
• Family members are known to awaken Aspects of a similar nature perhaps due to shared upbringing and fate.^[21][22] Although not always the case, it was especially true for Great Clans whose scions inherited the same lineage Attribute.^[22]
