Ling

He looked pretty much all infants did, except he was twice the size of a normal baby mere hours after he was born. Being Effie's son, Sunny predicted the boy to grow up to be a giant because Effie had always been unreasonably tall.^[1]

An adorable four-year-old boy dressed in a simple tunic.^[3]

There was little sign of intelligence in his eyes, and he did not really emote or react to anything.^[7]

An adorable wolf pup the size of a bull.^[3]

He was born inside the Third Nightmare on the way to Verge.^[6] His mother was pregnant before the cohort challenge the Nightmare.^[8][9]

Effie named her son "Ling" in honor of her first cohort leader. He was a unique existence because he had been born in the void at the heart of Ariel's Tomb, and therefore treated as a challenger when the Nightmare was conquered. He became a Transcendent as an infant, becoming the darling of humanity, famous across both worlds.^[3]

• He was temporarily named Little Dumpling by his mother due to him looking like a little dumpling. Effie wanted to consult the father first before naming him officially.^[1]
• Sunny thought he was ugly while Effie said he was beautiful just like his mom.^[1]
• Sunny initially didn't appreciate the charm of the infant, describing it as ugly and boring. However, being with her son made Effie happy, so Sunny couldn't hold it against her. Watching how everyone reacted to the infant was enjoyable, even though the infant himself was a bit of a letdown.^[7]
  • Kai seemed smitten.^[7]
  • Cassie showed her soft side.^[7]
  • Jet and Sunny were both intrigued, but she was holding herself back.^[7]
  • Nephis was perplexed and slightly mortified when Effie forced her to hold the infant.^[7]
  • Mordret seemed fascinated but was not allowed near the infant.^[7]
• Little Ling had taken time to start learning how to control his Transcendent strength. He was getting better at controlling his strength, but he was not good at it.^[3]
• His favorite person is Aiko.^[10]
• At six years old, Ling knows how to read. He can read books with pictures and even books without pictures, but only in the human language. He finds the runic language too difficult and still needs pictures to help him understand it. He is being taught to read the runic language by Julius.^[11]
• In Chapter 2434, Ling learned a cursed word "Damnation" from Aiko.
• In Chapter 2757, Asterion mentioned that there are currently three dreamspawns alive. He implied that the third one is still a child, a Transcendent child.
• In Chapter 2830, Little Ling departed the Forgotten Shore aboard the living Dark Castle, mostly appearing thrilled by the journey ahead. He was accompanied by Revel, who carried the Black Beast Locket and was preparing to relocate the Dark Castle after releasing Asterion's former thralls.
