Abilities
Debut
It is the ability to travel between shadows. He could enter a shadow that was large enough to encompass his body and instantly appear from another. The distance of the jump was even smaller than the range of his Shadow Sense but it can increase as he absorbs more shadow fragments. He was also able to travel between his own shadows no matter how far apart they were.[2]
He could dive into the shadows becoming incorporeal. Making him completely undetectable by means of sight, hearing, and smell. It also allowed him to move with incredible speed through any uninterrupted shadow, no matter how long and vast it was. In this state, he was invulnerable to physical attacks, but also unable to perform physical attacks.[2]
Shadow Step required him to expend essence. The more distance he covered with a jump and the more time he spent as an incorporeal shadow, the more essence he would have to consume.[2]
There was a small limit on the weight of the things he could pull with himself into the shadows and could only do so with inanimate objects.[3]
Transcendent
After Sunny transcended, he can remain in his incorporeal shadow form indefinitely and cover great distances with each Shadow Step.[4]
Sunny can now carry heavier inanimate objects and people through the shadows, but they consume a significant portion of his essence, especially those with vast and powerful souls.[5]
Shadow Step had evolved during his Transcendence, allowing Sunny to bring live beings with him. Sadly, he couldn't leave them in the dark realm of shadows. Shadow Step's teleportation range has significantly increased due to his enhanced shadow sense. However, teleporting a Corrupted Titan against its will would result in immense consumption of his essence.[6]
Supreme
The range of [Shadow Step] has become effectively limitless, with the only constraint being the amount of essence he possesses.[7]
As a Supreme, he regenerates his essence faster than he can expend it with only significant actions, such as summoning powerful members of Shadow Legion for an extended period or teleporting across great distances, can momentarily deplete it. Even then, he'll be back to full power in a relatively short amount of time.[7]Range
The range of Shadow Step can increase as Sunny absorbs more shadow fragments.[2]
| Chapter | Range |
|---|---|
| 409 | around a dozen meters (Awakened Monster) |
| 1592 | exact range not mentioned but distance covered increase exponentially (Transcendent Terror) |
When he conducted experiments with Shadow Step, he learned that once the shadows separated from him, they would always try to find their way back to their master, somehow sensing where he was.[8]
Trivia
- Before transcendence, Sunny had not been able to carry living beings with him when stepping through the shadows.[3][5]
- Upon inheriting Shadow Weave, the range and intricacy of his Shadow Step was increased.[9]
