History

Broken Sword is Nephis' father. He was the first Master to become a Saint.

Personality

Aspect, Ability, & Flaw

He was a genius concerning swordsmanship and combat. He emerged from nowhere and had no background to speak of, but he easily defeated prestigious families and held his own against them. Despite his rough technique, his skill improved daily, making Orum feel exasperated and insecure.^[3]

His Aspect was connected to perception, allowing him to perceive the underlying elements of various concepts and deduce their connections. This gave him an unparalleled level of insight into various aspects, from how a battle style flowed to how communicators were built. His talent stood out even among the most excellent Sleepers in his class or perhaps of any Sleeper ever.^[3]

Background

He came from a very humble background that rose to prominence thanks to his talent and battle genius. He was married to the princess of the Immortal Flame Clan, Smile of Heaven, and became the heir of the Immortal Flame Clan. He was also the leader of the first cohort to conquer the Third Nightmare, hence becoming one of the first Master to become a Saint. There were the other members of the cohort namely Smile of Heaven, Asterion, Ki Song, and Anvil of the Valor clan. It was presumed that after the death of his wife (who actually became a Hollow), Broken Sword was heartbroken which drove him to challenge the Third Nightmare and succeeded in becoming the first Saint. A few years later, he 'perished' in the Dream Realm while exploring a region that would later be categorized as a Death Zone.^[1]

It was speculated that the rest of his cohort members, Ki of the great clan Song, Anvil of the great clan Valor, and a person called Asterion had conquered the Fourth Nightmare and in the process killed Broken Sword of the Immortal Flame.^[4]

According to Nephis, Broken Sword called members of his cohort, Aster, Song, Vale his friends.^[5]
Broken Sword earned a True Name upon his first visit to the Dream Realm.^[6]
It was mentioned in Chapter 1942 that Smile of Heaven and Broken Sword, who had been together since their Academy days, were officially married.^[7]
Broken Sword might have been the deadliest warrior of their cohort, but it was Anvil who was responsible for equipping his companions with the best Memories and gear.^[8]
Broken Sword had become a Saint when Nephis was three. He was completely focused on getting stronger and preparing to face more powerful Nightmares, so he left his daughter in the care of Immortal Flame's widow. Additionally, because he spent so much time trapped in the Nightmare, he was unable to be present in Nephis' life.^[9]
