Julius, commonly known as Teacher Julius, is an awakened who teaches the Wilderness Survival class in the Awakened Academy.^[4] His teachings were of great help to Sunless once he entered the Dream Realm.^[5]

Appearance

He was a lively old man with messy grey hair, absentminded eyes, and a pair of bushy eyebrows that seemed to jump around on their own.^[4] In Bastion, he was dressed in a patchy enchanted robe.^[6]

Personality

Unlike many, Julius prefers to learn more about the Dream Realm by studying about its runic language and has a deep interest in the history of the Dream Realm. He knows how to survive and recognize the dangers of the environment. He cares about Sunny to the point of getting emotional on his last day before going to the Dream Realm. He gave the young man plenty of "last" tips and even promised to apply for a research assistant position to be opened after the young man had become a full Awakened.^[7]^[8]

He was delighted when Sunny visited after becoming Awakened but was also worried when he only came back after a year.^[9]

Background

He used to be an avid explorer and student of the Dream Realm's history before becoming a professor in the Awakened Academy and settling down in one of the most prosperous human Citadels. He was still one of the leading researchers in that field, often irritating hunting expeditions with requests to explore this or that ruin.^[10]

History

Teacher Julius played a pivotal role in Sunny's early survival. It had been Julius who insisted that Sunny learn how to swim during his time at the Academy, a skill that later proved essential. Without it, Sunny admitted he would have drowned immediately after entering the Dream Realm on the winter solstice, ending his journey before it had even begun.^[11]

By the time Sunny returned to the Academy as a Supreme, Julius was no longer teaching there. He and his family resided permanently in Bastion, where he dedicated his days to building a new education system within the Dream Realm for the Human Domain. Although he lived in Bastion, Julius occasionally visited the Academy, and the Wilderness Survival classroom served as his office during those times.^[11]

Sunny ultimately entrusted Julius with his greatest work, The Exploration Report on Everything. He placed the journal on Julius's desk, believing him to be the person most capable of treating it with care.^[11]

Trivia

According to him, the key to finding a good citadel is good plumbing.^[12]
When questioned, Julius does not seem to recognize an entity regarded as Unknown.^[12]
He had once thrown a tantrum about Sunny's lack of education and forced him to read a bunch of children's schoolbooks.^[13]
It was mentioned by Sunny that his teacher Julius would be upset if he found out that he stuffed his belly while an elderly woman starved nearby, even if she was a Nightmare inhabitant.^[14]
He taught Sunny the fundamental cooking skills which had a hint of Bastion's tradition.^[15]
In Chapter 1594, Julius was reading "The Exploration Report on the Tomb of Ariel", written by Nobody. The research paper was anonymously published by Sunny.
Julius headed the project that pertains to creating and implementing universal education guidelines in the Dream Realm.^[3]
In Chapter 2316, it was mentioned that Julius played a game of chess with Sunny.
In Chapter 2566, Julius read the The Exploration Report on Everything.
In Chapter 3026, Julius was finishing the work on the Annotated Commentary and Addendum to the Exploration Report of Everything. In his free time after fulfilling his duties as the architect of the new education system, he is tutoring Little Ling, and being one of the people responsible for diplomatic relations with the River People.
