“ Freedom, young man... freedom can be the most appalling curse in the world, if it falls into the wrong hands. It is a terrifying thing. ”

― Cor to Sunless,
Chapter 1098 Appalling Curse

Cor also known as Wake of Ruin, is one of the two government Transcendents.[4] A legendary figure who had been protecting the waking world since the times of the First Generation.[1]

Appearance

Wake of Ruin was a tall, gaunt man in his late fifties. Although his skin was showing signs of aging, his hair still remained perfectly black, like the feathers of a raven. The Saint had sharp features, a piercing gaze, and a stern demeanor, acting like a person who was used to both wielding power and bearing responsibility.

— Chapter 1094 Wake of Ruin

He had a subtle scent of rot and slaughter that followed him like an invisible mantle. He wears an austere military uniform that has an insignia of four stars emblazoned on its sleeve. His sharp, pale face was framed by unruly raven-black hair. There is bleak dullness in his dark eyes.[5]

Personality

“ Don't question my determination, Major Sunless. The government has never broken its neutrality! That is the only way to sustain this world. That is how we prevent it from being destroyed and how we save lives. ”

― To Sunny,
Chapter 1184 The Final Argument

Saint Cor was not a likable person but it was hard not to feel respect toward him. He was strangely low-key but his age alone told volumes about what kind of man he was, and what ordeals he had lived through.[4]

He is a wise and experienced man who has seen a lot in his life and knows that the world is not always black and white.[6]

Aspect, Abilities & Flaw

Transformation Ability

Wake of Ruin's Transformation was a myriad of crows. The countless crows circled like a giant whirlwind of darkness and pivoted with eerie synchronicity. Their black beaks and vicious talons emitted a sense of deadly sharpness.[7]

His transcendent form is extremely hard to kill, requiring the extermination of every single one of the myriad crows, potentially causing repercussions for Saint Cor if the swarm suffers heavy losses. The government Saint excelled in battles against many Nightmare Creatures or potent adversaries who did not possess a lot of physical defense.[5]

Background

The government Transcendent was not as renowned as the Saints of the Legacy clans, his age and experience revealed his character and the ordeals he had endured.[4]

He is a member of the First Generation. He wasn't in the same league as the legendary figures such as Immortal Flame and Nightwalker because he was but a young child when the Spell first descended. He had, however, watched and helped build the current world order. Even though Saint Cor became Transcendent later than members of the Second Generation such as Anvil and Ki Song, he was nonetheless regarded as their senior.[4]

History

The arrangement between the government and the great clans was unclear, but the fact that Wake of Ruin was allowed to be excluded from control and did not serve any of the Sovereigns suggested that there was more to the old man than first appeared. He was the entire Antarctica operation's field commander, and Jet had a close relationship with the veteran Saint, who was one of his most trusted operatives.[4]

After the Battle of the Black Skull, he gathered the group of survivors and found them a shelter in the Nightmare Desert. However after ensuring their safety, he took as many Asceneded with him back to the waking world as East Antarctica must be in crisis.[8]

End

Reveal

During Cassie's battle on the third floor of the ancient tower, he had appeared in a fragmented form as the swarm of vicious crows that she fought against. Cassie had used her Transcendent Ability, diving into the vast sea of Saint Cor's memories, and instead of searching or preserving them, she had simply destroyed them, burning them all to ash and eradicating the very notion of him, until what remained had been an empty, charred husk.[9]

After the destruction of his memories, the crow had coalesced into a human figure and the gaunt man had fallen powerlessly to the floor, described as the man who had been Wake of Ruin once, who had tried to sit up and looked around with an empty gaze showing no hint of thought or identity in his bestial, pained, frightened eyes, before Cassie had moved to finish him off and Asterion had interrupted her by entering the workshop and speaking to her while Saint Cor remained in that reduced, identityless state.[9]

After Yutra resisted Asterion's command to restrain Cassie, Asterion demonstrated his power by turning away from Cassie and moving across the hall to observe the hollow Saint; judging him to be of no further use, he stated in a calm tone for him to die and in response to this command, the empty shell of Wake of Ruin, crumpled like a broken doll, as life drained from his empty eyes, and he fell to the floor, motionless.[9]
