― Jet to Sunny,
Chapter 19 Crossing the Bridge

Jet is the first ascended Sunny met after surviving his first nightmare. She directly worked for the government and was on watch duty to his nightmare.[15]

Appearance

Debut - Waking World

She had short, raven-black hair and icy-blue eyes. Her flawless skin was smooth, supple, and as white as snow. She is as pale as Sunny is. However, while Sunny's pale skin looked strange and unhealthy, the beautiful stranger was nothing short of striking.[15]

The woman seemed to be in her late twenties. For work, she wears a dark blue uniform with silver epaulets and black leather boots. The jacket of her uniform was casually unbuttoned, revealing a black tank top beneath. A shoulder insignia on her left sleeve has three stars on it to signify that she is of the Ascended rank.[15]

She claims to be below average among the awakened of her level when it comes to appearances. Despite that, Sunny thought she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.[15] Later when Sunny entered the Academy, he realized that she was not lying.[16]

According to Sunny, Jet possessed an intangible quality that no one was able to match. She had an arresting presence.[17]

Antarctica Campaign

In the Antarctica Campaign, she had not changed much, still confident, and beautiful, with raven black hair and cold, icy blue eyes. Her usual uniform was replaced by a deep blue military trench coat.[18]

Despite the pressure of leading the Irregular Company, she appeared relaxed and at ease, almost better than how she was in NQSC. Her presence appeared strangely invigorated, with the perpetual dark circles under her eyes gone.[19]

Transcendent

Jet resembled her previous self with ivory skin, raven-black hair, and icy blue eyes. Despite her higher rank, she wore the same uniform with four stars on the insignia instead of three.[20]

In Chapter 2582, she appeared more at ease than usual, enjoying a rare moment of solitude. Her usual government uniform was absent, replaced by an armor Memory resembling a wetsuit crafted from the inky-black skin of an unknown sea monster. This armor was similar to the Memories commonly worn by members of the House of Night in battle and was considered more practical than conventional armor when fighting in the depths. The form-fitting design also accentuated her figure. Her most striking feature was her icy blue eyes, which almost glowed in the darkness of the warm night.

Supreme

In Chapter 3144, in the gathering of demigods, Jet is described as a woman of ravishing beauty, with icy blue eyes glowing with cold light in the shadows. Her figure is riveting, her flawless skin is smooth and white as snow, and her raven-black hair is cut short. She carries herself with relaxed grace, while her subtle presence fills the chamber with a feeling of otherworldly cold. Despite its subtlety, she is impossible to look away from.

Personality

Volume 1

She works with the government unlike most awakened of her rank fueled by altruism and a sense of duty, sacrificing wealth and fame. While well aware that some things are not to be said, she appreciates honesty.[15]

According to Julius, she has a problematic personality, and due to it, he estimated that she will not be able to become a Saint because she does not get along with other Awakened, something that is necessary to attempt conquering the Third Nightmare. He was surprised that a barbarian like her would know the value of intricate knowledge. He described her as a murderous savage and a psychopathic killer.[1]

Volume 6

Julius called Jet a murderous savage and psychopathic killer but knowing her abilities and flaw, strangers may have mistakenly believed Jet enjoyed killing for the sake of killing. After all, very few people knew that she needed to constantly absorb essence to survive.[21]

Volume 8

According to Effie, despite her tough-girl routine and carefully constructed facade of a cynical salary woman. Jet is a professional first and foremost, but she takes her responsibilities very seriously. Her cynical loyalty to the mission of preserving humanity was quite ironically much greater than the noble intent of most ardent idealists. She had already been doing her very best as a Master. But now as one of the five Saints serving the government, her responsibilities were much greater. Due to being much more knowledgeable and experienced, she was involved in the government's administration and decision-making processes, affecting the instructions that everyone received.[22]

She committed to work for the government long ago and any defeat that the government's mission suffered was a personal sleight. She experienced a deep sense of sadness and humiliation after losing a city, as it felt like stealing her personal belongings.[23]

She had never been that interested in history, only learning enough to understand the modern world but eventually developed a liking for it due to meeting someone who was very enthusiastic about ancient cultures and being secretly displeased at not having enough knowledge to sustain a conversation.[24]

Volume 10

Jet had come far from the days when people who knew of her—mostly Awakened—treated her with distaste and aversion due to the ruthless cruelty of her murderous ways. Now, there was no person in the world who did not know the Soul Reaper, and her reputation, while not as loud as that of the other great champions of humanity, was stellar. People treated her with the respect and esteem reserved only for those who had earned it. Jet had always been a professional, and her profession was serving humanity—she had a spotless track record of being good at her job, as well, so being under Soul Reaper's wing meant being safe. That was why refugees were happy to settle on the Night Garden and become a part of the community.[25]

Volume 12

Reveal

Jet announced her retirement from government service shortly before preparing to challenge the Fourth Nightmare. She explained that the Fourth Nightmare awaited her and that neither its duration nor her chances of returning alive were known. Anticipating her departure, she spent the previous year training personnel to replace her before officially resigning from her position.[9]

Jet stated that there was only a limited period remaining in which the Fourth Nightmare could be conquered before global conditions began to deteriorate further. As a result, she intended to prepare as thoroughly as possible before entering the Nightmare. When discussing her decision, she explained that there was no real alternative after she, Sunny, and Nephis had conspired to bring down the Sovereigns, as there was no turning back from that course of action. Jet also emphasized the strategic importance of her challenge. While Sunny and Nephis planned to challenge the Fifth Nightmare, she believed that someone would need to remain behind to protect the world in their absence and that the power of a Saint would be insufficient for that role.[9]

Battle Ability

Her battle style was brutal and domineering, honed and perfectly sharpened to achieve a single purpose to deliver swift death and utter devastation to her enemies. While it lacked flair and refinement, one can feel the lethal weight of thousands and thousands of deathly battles.[26] She fought with the dire and straightforward inevitability of an experienced butcher, slaughtering her enemies both methodically and ruthlessly. There was an awful beauty to her mesmerizing savagery.[27]

More Info

Soul Reaper was a terror to behold, even though weakened and unarmed. When she struck the abominations, her hands simply passed through their flesh, directly shattering the soul cores. She was already dead, but she could not bleed to death and could ignore wounds that would cripple or kill any human. She could dismiss even the most severe internal injuries, continuing to fight without slowing down. Even if her lungs were crushed and her heart was pierced, she would simply continue to kill. Crushing her skull would not stop her, as long as she absorbed enough essence, her dead body would eventually heal or restore itself.[21]

When Sunny questions Jet if she is stronger than Morgan, she believes that she would likely lose if they had to fight. Morgan has vast resources of Valor, and people like her don't have the same foundation. She wouldn't want to fight one of their heirs, including Song Seishan.[28]

Background

Sunless first met her when he regained consciousness after the First Nightmare. She was sitting next to him in case he turned into a Nightmare Creature.[15] It was revealed that she grew up in the outskirts just like Sunny, despite her exquisite manners and polished exterior.[29] According to Teacher Julius, she is one of the most feared Awakened despite not being the strongest.[1]

She did the same thing as Sunny after becoming an Awakened — buy a house. But in her case, it took longer.[30]

Her status and reputation trampled the procedures at least to a large extent.[3] This is apparent when she can go anywhere inside the Academy.[31] Also when she took with her an apparent civilian into the military bunker.[3]

Trivia

  • According to her, the main challenge of the First Nightmare often turns out to be the environment. Due to this, she encouraged Sunny to attend wilderness survival in the Academy.[32]
  • She provided three pieces of advice to Sunny, that ended up saving his life immediately after he was transported to the Dream Realm:[32]
    • Keep your Flaw and Aspect secret. Other humans are just as much of a threat as Nightmare creatures.
    • Learn to survive in the wilderness. The biggest threat in the Dream Realm is not the Nightmare creatures but the environment.
    • Try to get along with your peers, even if they don't treat you well. It might save your life.
  • She asked for help from Sunny due to the following reasons:[33]
    • Sunny is one of very few whom she would trust to have her back.
    • From the initial information she received, the suspect might have an Aspect that is somewhat similar to Sunny, high affinity to shadows.
    • Sunny is also a killer just like her.
  • She gifted Sunny an Ascended soul shard for his twentieth birthday.[34]
  • She planned to join the expeditionary force in Antarctica to stall Nightmare Creatures while people were to be evacuated across the water.[35]
  • Her official title in the First Army is "Colonel Jet, senior officer of the First Awakened Irregular Company of the Northern Quadrant Corps of the Evacuation Army."[3]
  • Sunny beat her record of becoming an Ascended by five years.[36]
  • Her personal dossier in the government database was enigmatic, except for her name and rank, almost everything was obscured.[37]
  • She is the most active government operative.[26]
  • Even though one of the torn alloy beams penetrated her abdomen like a hook, she recovered completely in a few days even without a healer. She claims that it will be impossible for her to die in Antarctica.[38]
  • She knows Sunny is Mongrel and thinks that Sunny's Aspect can create Memories.[28]
  • She had never ridden a horse before Sunny asked her to.[28]
  • She feels a strange kinship with all of Ki Song's daughters, despite not wanting to be part of a Legacy clan. She believes their flaws are similar to her own.[39]
  • In Chapter 1097, Sunny contemplated if there was a connection between Jet's strange crow Echo and the Saint of carrion birds (Cor).
  • In Chapter 1473, Jet shared a few golden fruits with Effie due to her frequent drooling during her meal and her belief that it could be beneficial for the baby.
  • In Chapter 1491, Jet can sense powerful souls.
  • Jet admitted she was not skilled enough yet in star navigation.[40]
  • Jet is one of the few Saints to evade a Supreme.[8]
  • In Chapter 3012, Jet is no longer employed and has lost her government-provided residence, leaving her without a place to live.
  • In Chapter 3026, Jet wrote "Observations on the Frozen Wasteland (In Short: It's Really Cold), by: Soul Reaper Jet (No One Can Survive There Anyway, So Why Am I Wasting My Time on This?)". Sunny convinced Jet to write about her discovery of the end of Hollow Mountains which disproved the Universal World Wall theory.
