Twilight was the name of the city King Daeron and his vassals had built.[2]

Location

The city was built at the edge of dawn.[5]

Description

Unlike Weave and Fallen Grace, which were built by connecting a scattering of island ships. Twilight had been built on a single, vast carapace of an unfathomably immense Nightmare Creature which served as its foundation. The enormous abomination was incomparable to the gargantuan Black Turtle.[6]

The walls of Twilight were tall and imposing, built from stone and reinforced with the scales of powerful Nightmare Creatures. The whole city is built like a fortress. The inner districts are separated from the rest.[7]

The Twilight Sea, unlike other cities, was unique in its architectural style. It was both robust and aery, prioritizing practicality over aesthetics. Its architecture was designed to fit a culture originating from a world of water and frequent storms.[7]

There were two defensive measures in Twilight: the chain barrier and the defensive array in which time slows down the nearer one to the heart of the city until it completely stops.[6]

Throne

Daeron's throne was the tall dais at the center of the hall. A throne cut from a single slab of lusterless black stone which was the lock of the defensive array of Twilight, and the Crown of Twilight was its key.[8]

Background

The people of Twilight are odd, as they were not Riverborn or refugees from the Dream Realm. They appeared within the Tomb much later than the Sybils and the Seekers, when the River People civilization had already been established and the Defilement had spread. If not for the fact that they simply can't be from Earth, they would have been challengers.[9]

The legends said that the city of the Serpent King was lost but not destroyed, devoured by time.[9]

Origin

Reveal

According to Wind Flower, the goal of the journey of Daeron and his loyal warriors, who braved the White Desert and entered the Tomb of Ariel, was to imprint their souls into the Great River so that when challengers entered its Nightmare, there was someone to help them conquer it. It was a gamble considering their world was dying due to being consumed by the Dream Realm. Despite their struggles, they failed to rise to the challenge of the Spell. He was the only Supreme and had no successor to turn the tide of destruction, so he came up with a plan to raise an army of Transcendent warriors in the unique Nightmare, but this plan failed as well.[10]

History

A terrible battle occurred in Twilight countless years ago, with the forces of Defilement attempting to destroy the city. The warriors of Twilight tried to prevent it but failed. The abominations broke through the outer barrier and breached the city walls, led by the Dread Lord and Soul Stealer. The Dread Lord entered the city with the remaining Nightmare Creatures. The streets of Twilight became a battlefield, with countless humans fighting against the abominations and some turning into abominations themselves. A powerful sorcery awakened, swallowing all of Twilight. They were trapped in a frozen time.[11]

People within the city were trapped due to the enchantment array set up by Twilight inhabitants. They cannot move freely in the physical world.[12]

In Chapter 1508, it was revealed that all Twilight warriors were Soul Stealers. The frozen battle was not between the Defiled legion of Verge and Twilight defenders but between the Dread Lord and Soul Stealer.[13]

Trivia

  • The Crown of Twilight serves as an enchantment key of the defensive array inside Twilight. It was created by Daeron and their best sorcerers and its effect is similar to Aletheia's creation.[14]
  • The defensive array of Twilight is built upon a fragment of the Estuary that resembles the black stone of Aletheia's Tower.[14]
  • The activation of the defensive array of Twilight froze time.[11]
