The Ark was a time fortress built by Cronos and Daeron of the Twilight Sea in the Estuary. They used the nature of the Estuary to strengthen the sorcery that kept it hidden outside time, tethering the Ark to its waters, which made it a brilliant design. It existed outside the normal flow of time, allowing its inhabitants to experience only a few years while thousands of years must have flown past the Ark until its sorcery finally ran out.[1]
Appearance
By the time of the present moment, no one remained alive from the Ark. What remained was its physical remnant: the bones of a colossal serpent floating in emptiness, appearing from afar like a flawlessly white ring devouring its own tail.[1]
Ark Amulets
- Main article: Ark Amulets
Ark Amulets were enchanted lockets that contained a small pocket dimension of its own, its inhabitants frozen in time, created as lesser versions of the Ark and entrusted to seven champions to preserve the remaining River People.[2]
History
Its destruction was tied to the fate of the Great River. When Cronos broke the Great River, it set in motion events that would destroy the Ark one day. As the River began to dry up—starting from the Estuary—the Ark became unmoored, and the sorcery that sustained it was left without a source, leaving its people without a safe harbor. When its inhabitants emerged, they found the Tomb of Ariel alien and unsustainable for human life, with no adequate source of sustenance and filled with dangers. The Ark had once sheltered a population, but survival became impossible: not the entire population of the Ark could be sustained, and they faced extinction as they fought daily against starvation and harrowing abominations that now filled the River.[1]
