Characters are beings that have transcended beyond S-grade and achieved immortality. Depending on the god's path, faith and followers can be necessary, while other gods do not need faith. The new generation of gods from each new universe tends to be weaker than the last, though more numerous. This is not absolute, but the Primordials, the gods who ascended during the first era, are considered the pinnacle of the multiverse's power, with very few from the subsequent eras able to even consider challenging them.

Gods can give blessings to mortals. Blessings not only give stat bonuses but often lead to the mortal receiving Legacy skills. Blessings are one of the only ways for an outside source to give more Records that allows one to evolve. The levels of the blessings are: Minor, Lesser, Intermediate, Major, Greater, Divine and True. A god can give a True blessing to only one mortal at time, so the mortal who has this blessing is called "Chosen of the God". While gods need to pay some price to give the blessings, the records that the mortal with the blessing gains affect the god who give the blessing, strengthening the God. These records impact the god most if their blessed are able to progress and evolve.

Gods often join together based on similar Paths or goals, this is refereed to as a Pantheon.

Just like mortals gods also have a form of Grades this being the Divine Grades.

Below are known gods who have no specialized deific categorization. For specialized gods (primordial, void, bound), see "Known Special Categorization of Gods" section on this page.

There are several special categories of gods, including:

• The 12 Primordials, the first gods of the multiverse. They rose to power during the first era when The System was in its infancy. During their rise, there were no existing gods to serve as guides, no separate tutorials for monsters and enlightened, no tutorial stores. No one had any idea what was going on and all they could focus on was killing and getting stronger if they wanted to survive.
• Bound Gods who are not living beings with Truesouls, but rather gods born out of objects or places. Usually made by the System to guard World Wonders.
• Void Gods were born in and live in the void. There are 7 total void gods in the history of the multiverse and no void god has ever died. Their enigmatic origins are unknown even to the Primordials, as they existed even before the other gods learned to access and explore the void.

• In general, the steps to reach godhood are Forbidden Knowledge. However, the Viper does confirm that one step is to open the Gate of Enlightenment in one's soulspace.^[1]
• According to Minaga, gods are aware of when their name (ex: Minaga) or title (ex: All-god Legion) are spoken due to the records associated with them. This disturbance in their personal records makes theme vaguely aware of the speaker with the awareness growing greater in accordance to their familiarity with the speaker.^[2]
• Due to Record bleed over, many of the prominent figures in Earth's pre-integration mythology have a multiversal counterpart. Ex: Artemis, Hermes, Atlas, Midas, etc.
