Eversmile is one of the twelve Primordials of the Primal Hunter universe, renowned for his eternal smile, doppelganger shapeshifting, and obsession with manipulating and researching karma, and Karmic Magic.

Appearance

Eversmile’s canonical avatar is an ancient man with wild, shoulder-length white hair, an unruly beard, and an unchanging, unsettling smile that has not faded for eras. His features are hard to read: even when annoyed or cold, the smile never leaves his face. When first seen by Jake Thayne at the end of the Tutorial, he appeared in a battered, flowing robe, giving no hint of his true form (Vol 2). Eversmile is a doppelganger of the highest order, able to change appearance. His only true constants are his enigmatic smile —described as “smiling even in coldness” (Vol 2, Viper introduction). No physical trait besides his expression is reliably permanent.

Personality

Eversmile is not a villain, nor a benevolent god—he is a scholar of karma, driven by boundless curiosity and an insatiable desire for unpredictable outcomes as they create new karmic connections. He delights in experiments where even he cannot predict the results, and “nothing is better than the truly unexpected” (Vol 9). He never lies when asked a direct question, a side effect of his Path, but he is a master of misdirection and omission. He is almost amoral: mortals and gods are pawns for his research, and he will upend worlds to observe new narratives unfold. Yet he keeps bargains and honors deals, even with rivals, because breaking them would violate his Path (Vol 9–10, Yip confrontation).

Powers and Abilities

  • Doppelganger Shapeshifting: Absolute mastery; can take any form, hide aura and presents. “If Eversmile wishes to hide, nobody in the multiverse can find him” (Viper, Vol 2).
  • Karmic Tracking & Fate Manipulation: Constantly observes karmic threads, senses significant events, and can nudge or orchestrate fate via manipulation and prophecy.
  • Temporal and Spatial Authority: Able to freeze time (Vol 2, Tutorial climax), extract souls/bodies from restricted spaces, and teleport at will.
  • Truthbound: Cannot lie when asked directly, suffers Path backlash if he tries (Vol 9, Yip interrogation).

Transcendence

  • Ability : It completely annihilates someone through karma, severing all connections they have to the world and even erasing their Records, making them cease to exist, and all information related to them disappear. Their names erased from books, memories gone from relatives. This only works on multiverse denizens weaker than himself. He can also use it on the dead to remove them from the annals of history.
  • Limitations : Unable to make people at his own level forget.
  • Cost : Has to sacrifice positive Records and memories himself upon every usage.

History

Pre-Plot

Background unknown; identified as an ancient entity, peer of the Malefic Viper and other Primordials. Eversmile never had a actual name.

Earth’s Tutorial (Vol 1–2)

Hijacked the Tutorial scenario, engineered its brutality for research; manipulated Jake’s dreams, mentored William Hanson as his Chosen, and orchestrated the majority of deaths and events. Intervened at the climax, stopped time, and negotiated with the Malefic Viper to keep William’s body, ultimately owing the Viper a cosmic favor (Vol 2, Tutorial finale).

William’s Arc

Continued to mentor William off-screen, ultimately lost him as a disciple when William became a Heretic (Vol 3+). Eversmile’s influence shaped William’s subsequent actions and the fate of several worlds.

Primordial War (Vol 9–10)

Allied with Yip of Yore and Valdemar, orchestrated the campaign against Vilastromoz as part of a larger experiment and to settle his debt with the Viper. Admitted openly (under Path compulsion) to wanting Yip to kill Viper, not from hatred but for the narrative shock value. Chronicled and spread the resulting legend when Viper triumphed, fulfilling his role as the recorder of Records.

Later Canon

After the Primordial war, considered even with the Viper and free to pursue new cosmic experiments. Remains at large, influence undiminished.

Relationships

  • Malefic Viper (Vilastromoz): Rival, peer, and narrative foil; interactions defined by mutual wariness and respect (Vol 2, 10).
  • William Hanson: Former Chosen/disciple; became a Heretic after realizing Eversmile’s manipulations.
  • Yip of Yore: Temporary ally; Eversmile facilitated Yip’s bid for godslayer status as both experiment and to settle a debt.
  • Valdemar: Occasional co-conspirator; shared curiosity for chaos.

Major Events

  • Tutorial Dream Infiltration (Vol 1, Ch 71): Tested Jake Thayne in a dream; driven out by the Malefic Viper.
  • Tutorial Finale (Vol 2): Time stop, direct confrontation with Viper, pivotal bargain over William’s fate.
  • Primordial War (Vol 9–10): Guided Yip, manipulated fate, admitted true motives, acted as chronicler.

Quotes

  • "He hasn’t stopped smiling for eras… it’s actually quite creepy."* — Malefic Viper, Vol 2
  • "Nothing is better than when the outcome wasn’t the expected one but something no one had seen coming."* — Eversmile, Vol 9
  • "He never lied. It was his Path to not lie when directly asked… he would feel a tangible blowback if he did so, especially to another god at Yip’s level."* — Yip of Yore, Vol 9
