Noboru Miyamoto

Miyamoto maintains old world values such as honor while also embracing modernity by adopting capitalist values to support his clan financially.

Miyamoto's personality was heavily influenced by his time as a Japanese soldier during World War II and the deprivations he and his fellow soldiers experienced during that time. Although, Miyamoto acknowledges that he fought on the wrong side of history, he does not regret fighting for his country.

During the Tutorial, he was blessed by an unnamed god. However, at the conclusion of the tutorial, the god demanded Miyamoto surrender his clan to Sanctdomo. Fiercely valuing independence and autonomy, Miyamoto refused and instead relinquished his Blessing.

The Path of the Sword Saint is not about a singular style of combat. It instead focuses on the concept of change, growth, and adapting to the opponent. A crucial aspect of his swordsmanship is his rate of improvement. Every clash makes him stronger and allows him to handle the next attack better.^[1] He also focuses on the concepts of time, including the changing of the seasons, an elaboration of his original transcendent concept of Spring rain. He has also demonstrated a potential capacity for working with void material, but admitted that he was too weak to do more than a cheap imitation in C-grade.^[2]

Even before the System, Miyamoto was a prominent figure. His clan's history can be traced as far back as the Shoguns. Miyamoto served as the chairman of Noboru Group, a family owned company that granted the clan wealth and affluence. In his free time, Miyamoto maintained a lifetime interest in martial pursuits, even winning national championships in Kendo.

In the twenty-four hours leading up to the integration of the 93rd Universe, Miyamoto was on his deathbed. At 107, he'd outlived both his wife and firstborn son. His family had gathered to witness his final moments and to acknowledge the patriarch passing his mantle of Clan leadership to his grandson. But just as Miyamoto felt that death was but a breath away, everyone on the planet was whisked away to the Tutorial.

With a renewed body from the System, the Noboru Patriarch wielded his blade once again and led his Clan both during and after the Tutorial.

Miyamoto and Jake first met during the First World Congress. Instinctively recognizing one another as pinnacle talents, the two agree that they will eventually have a duel. Until then, they agree that Saya and Haven will enter into a pact of non-aggression.

During the Treasure Hunt, the Sword Saint and Jake have a small competition. Whoever collects more keys from hunting the Vampiric Counts (Mini-Bosses of the Treasure Hunt) gets whatever is behind the gate the keys unlock. The Noboru Clan makes a deal with the Holy Church to both delay Jake and to hand over keys the Church finds. The Clan gathers more keys and therefore the right to whatever is behind the gate. However, it turned out to be a red herring of a gift because the gates opened to reveal more vaults, Individual puzzles scattered across the Yalsten that needed to be solved for the final stage of the event.

At the end of the Treasure Hunt, after slaying the Fallen Monarch, Miyamoto and Jake dueled as Yalsten fell apart. The challenge of the fight triggered Miyamoto to reflect on past challenges. He recalls his struggles during the Second World War and this inspires the creation of his Transcendence. He then used this Transcendence to renew his efforts in the duel with Jake. With the world crumbling around them, both combatants are forced out of the event. Both Miyamoto and Jake feel that the other won and finally they agree to call it a tie.

The Malefic Viper eventually heard about Miyamoto's transcendence, and his subsequent refusal to buy the Soul Renewal that would have negated the consequences of using the skill. Impressed, the Viper decided to recommend Miyamoto to his friend and fellow Primordial Aeon Clok. After a long philosophical debate with the Sword Saint, Aeon is likewise impressed and gives the swordsman his Divine Blessing with the understanding that the blessing may later be upgraded to a True Blessing.

After the Sword Saint spends over a millennia observing the seasons on a time dilated planet, he updated his transcendent skill to include attacks related to all four seasons. Coupled with his outstanding performance in a number of system of events, this met Aeon's requirements and Miyamoto is finally offered the position of Chosen.^[3] He accepted and debuted as such during the World of the Exalted Prima event.^[4]

The Sword Saint teams with Jake, Dina, Sylphie, and the Fallen King to complete the C-grade version of Nevermore. The group does extremely well with Jake becoming the all-time scorer for C-grades and the Sword Saint making the top ten leader board for the 93rd Universe.

Miyamoto was part of the elite strike team that defended Earth in the Prima Guardian Event. He worked along side Jake, Carmen, Eron, Caleb, the Fallen King, Sylphie, Casper, Maria, Vesperia, and Arnold. After Earth is secured, he worked as an ambassador/mercenary, helping other planets kill their Prima Guardian and claim their planetary core.

Miyamoto attended the Seat of the Exalted Prima as a part of faux-faction made up of individuals blessed by Aeon Clok. At one point, he teams up with Caleb and the Court of Shadows to destroy a territorial beacon of the Altmar Empire.

• Following the creation of his transcendence, the Sword Saint's danger rating (the likelihood of a Court Assassin successfully pulling off an assassination) with the Court of Shadows was raised to match Jake's.^[5]

• You know, I did consider asking why you call him an old man, considering he's still pretty damn young, but I somehow can't disagree with your statement that he seems like an old man. —Villy
