Beings in the System are ranked using grades, also known as tiers. They range from F to S and each tier is further broken down into 4 stages: early, mid, late, and peak. The difference between tiers is much greater than the difference in levels would suggest. To slay a being a grade above yourself is a difficult feat, often requiring large groups. Slaying one in single combat is even harder, an act reserved for true geniuses. Even then going above your grade is usually only possible if your opponent is in the early stage of their grade.

Upon reaching the peak of your grade, you must complete an advancement quest to transition into the new grade. Failing or not completing this quest will restrict you from advancing.

Divine Grades

Gods have their own power rankings, although it is unknown what levels are associated with them. First are the nine divine ranks (Circles of Divinity). Upon reaching rank 10 a god becomes a Godking or Godqueen.

To reach above Godking/Godqueen, gods need to condense their Circles, placing their foot on the first Empyrean step[5]. Upon Yip of Yore's death, he states that there are ranks even beyond this.

The Wall

Every being reaches a wall, a natural barrier to the path beyond that they must overcome by any means possible. Failure will result in the stagnation of your progress. Villy directly mentions that he has had to break through thousands of walls to get where he is.

"It’s horrible. It makes you question where you went wrong and if perhaps your Path was flawed from the very beginning. Many gods resign themselves to their fates when this happens; others accept it and move on with the hope that they can progress once more again in the future." - The Malefic Viper to Yip of Yore, Chapter 1016.
