Not a cult; It's an Order—big difference."

—The Malefic Viper, to Jake Thayne

The Order of the Malefic Viper is a crafting organization created by The Malefic Viper. It focuses on alchemy and hosts potential alchemists from across the multiverse. The headquarters of the Order are located in and around the Great Planet Primordial-4.

While the Order quickly rose to prominence on the strength of its Patron, it found its prestige waning after the Viper went into a multi-era exile following an undisclosed event in the seventh era. By the time of the initiation of the 93rd universe, the Order was down to a single hall on its main planet. Not a single participant had risen to godhood during the exile of the Viper. Nevertheless, the organization was still able to maintain some level of prestige and protection due to the quality of the training offered at the Academy of the Order of the Malefic Viper and because everyone feared what the Viper might do if he emerged from his self-imposed exile to discover his Order destroyed.

In the absence of the Viper, the Order was run by Viridia, the Hallmaster, and protected by the Lord Protector, the Viper's former Chosen.

Hierarchy

The Malefic Viper naturally sits at the top of the hierarchy. Right next to him, but placed a bit lower, sit his Chosen(Jake Thayne).

Beneath that were other gods of the Order. Then falls Viridia, the Hall Master and highest ranking mortal aside from the Chosen himself. Below her are the Branch Leaders who reign over a bunch of other ranks, with Temporary outer members being at the bottom.

Anyone who carries any Blessing from the Malefic Viper is eligible for automatically acceptance as an inner member (or higher, depending on the blessing). Those with Blessings from gods loyal to the Viper or members of the Order are also automatically offered to become inner members of the Order.[1]

Philosophy

The Order is founded on the belief in freedom over everything else. There is always a choice. If the Order wants something, the exchange will be transactional.

The Order does not engage in wars or choose sides in larger conflicts. Their members are allowed to join as mercenaries on either side, but if they join and are killed, the Order will not act to avenge them.[2]

The Order reflects its founder's belief that might makes right and you only deserve what you're strong enough to keep.

Membership

Membership to the Order is near-guaranteed for anyone who shows semblance of potential. However, it also comes with both benefits and responsibilities. Membership will allow more access to resources, academy credits for those attending, and a greater array of lessons. But in exchange members are asked to go on missions, provide materials for the Order, accept commissions, and a number of other ways to sustain the Order.[1]

Additionally, members can leave a Soulseal with the order which will detect if the member has been killed and mark the killer. This will make people hesitate to kill a known member of the Order for fearing retribution. However, this only applies if the member is killed by someone sufficiently more advanced in grade than themselves, such as an S-grade targeting a C-grade or a god targeting an A-grade. Any member killed by someone of their own rank, below, or only slightly above will be considered too weak to survive an unworthy of avenging.[1]
