Article contents
Casper is a Risen Human. Blessed by The Blightfather, he is also recognized as a Ghost King.[1] Casper maintains a close friendship with Jake Thayne, both before and after The System. He was part of Jake's Tutorial group. Casper performed the conversion ritual to become Risen after his girlfriend Lyra is murdered in William Hanson's campaign to become the tutorial's sole survivor. Lyra is later resurrected as a Blightwraith by The Blightfather himself to entice Casper to join the Empire of Blight.
Although he initially selected Archer in the tutorial introduction, Casper eventually evolves into a Cursed Trapper, leaning heavily into the curse aspect. He is a pinnacle talent Dungeon Architect, even gaining the recognition of Minaga, a god who has dedicated himself to crafting dungeons. He has trained under and is the current student of an S-grade Archlich. He currently resides on New Yalsten.
Appearance
After his conversion to Risen, Casper has ashen skin, gray eyes with black pupils, and black hair that looks to be graying.
Story Summary
Pre-system, Casper worked in his company's R&D department. Most of the department was headed to lunch together when the system integration initiated. Casper along with his colleagues- Jake, Jacob, Bertram, Caroline, Dennis, Lina, Ahmed, Theodore and Joanna Elkmann- spawned together in the Tutorial. Casper is one of the few people who Jake was friends with even before the Tutorial.
Casper initially chose the Archer Class and received some rudimentary training by Jake. However, the group eventually merges with Richard and Jake decides to go his own way. Realizing he wasn't suited for archery, Casper switched to setting Traps instead.
During the Tutorial, Casper met Lyra, whom he quickly fell for and began a relationship with. They’d spent a week together but before their relationship could flourish, she was killed by one of Hayden's members in the Tutorial, although it was believed to be the result of manipulation by William. Distraught, Casper went on a killing spree, killing several members of the opposing faction with increasingly sadistic traps. Eventually, while out trapping, Casper encountered a Challenge Dungeon. Upon completion, he was offered a deal by a member of the Empire of Blight: Lyra's soul could be preserved if he joined them. Casper accepted. He confronted William, letting the younger man know that everyone in charge is aware of William's true actions Casper then completed the ritual to turn himself into a Risen and left the Tutorial to join the Empire of Blight.
Noticing Casper's closeness to Jake and hoping to create a karmic connection, The Blightfather personally gave Casper a Divine Blessing and transformed Lyra into a Blightwraith, providing Casper with a Legendary necklace in which to store Lyra's soul.
In the new System-integrated Earth, Casper works under Priscilla, the nominal Leader of Earth’s Risen Faction since Casper refused to become the position. Together, they were the 4th faction to claim a Pylon of Civilization.
