Earth is one of the Life planets[1] of the Milky Way Galaxy located in the 93rd Universe, the latest Universe to be integrated into the System.

Despite its smaller size, it has become the epicenter of action due to a Tutorial heavily influenced by multiple Primordials and the emergence of a number of pinnacle talents from its native population.

Earth is the home of most major story characters and also the setting for significant portions of the series.

Terminology

Its inhabitants are known as Earthlings[2] or Earth's Humanity.

History

Before the integration, it was the same relatively peaceful Earth as the real life version. It had no mana, no levels, no experience, and no kill notifications if a human killed a beast or other human.

However, upon the initiation of the integration, Earth was thrown into a state of metamorphosis and its enlightened inhabitants were teleported first to the Introduction and then into the Tutorials, leaving their survival to their own fates. The flora and fauna remained on planet to face the changes head on.

Post-Tutorial, the returning Enlightened population found that the planet had been drastically terraformed. The planet itself was exponentially expanded with significantly larger landmasses and substantially deeper bodies of water. In the absence of the human population, the beasts had become rulers, the terraforming energy having turned them into D-Grades upon full integration. The stratosphere now contained its own world, cloud continents filled with Birds and Elementals, all beings gaining levels and experience for their hunts. Even insects had levels, albeit most were level 0. All of these monster races worked to grow stronger, often using Natural Treasures, extremely valuable resources coveted by beasts and humans alike.

For the Enlightened, Earth became a nightmare. Most were E-Grades and not bound to one specific area. As they roamed freely, searching for safety and stability, substantial quantities of weak humans died miserably in the hands of higher level beasts. But thanks to the experience from Tutorial, Earth's humanity quickly adapted. They gathered under the umbrella of stronger leaders and began to make the first settlements, marking political start of the new Earth. These leaders were those who'd proved their capabilities in the Tutorials. Some of were blessed by the Gods of other Universes and set out to establish a foothold for their respective Gods, anticipating the day when the System would allow their patrons to directly interact with the newly integrated universe.[3]

As settlements were established, the leaders would claim the Pylons of Civilizations, enabling the creation of safe zones against other beasts and humans. After 100 Pylons were claimed, the System invoked a World Congress to allow the various factions of Earth to establish diplomatic relations. Throughout the series, the System is quite active in presenting the inhabitants of the newly integrated universe with opportunities to grow and learn prior to their full integration into the multiverse. Jake described the immense amount of records provided by these System events, trials, and opportunities as a unique advantage given to the newly integrated to give them a fighting chance to grow strong enough to survive in the multiverse.[4]

Moon

The only natural Satellite planet of Earth, due to System integration making mana present everywhere, might also have living beings on it as witnessed by Jake from his perception. Initially under the control of a B-grade Ghostvine Sovereign, it was eventually purchased by Arnold from the World Council who, with the help of Sandy, eliminated the Ghostvine Sovereign and set up an "awesome moon base."

Factions

The more factions [that] have a presence on Earth, the less likely a single faction is to gain significant influence. No major faction wants to risk another expanding too much, making them effectively keep each other in check.

Trivia

  • Earth's overall tutorial survival rate was 86%.[5]
  • When Jake first returned to the System-integrated Earth, he noticed the lack of curvature. He initially believes that Earth has become so big that even Jake can't find its curvature or that it has become a flat world. In later books, Jake visits the moon and can see the Earth from space. He makes no comment about a change to shape of the planet, implying that the planet is much larger but still round.
  • Despite the larger size of the new Earth, the day-night cycle remained unchanged, proving that System does not follow basic physics or astronomy to determine the day-night cycle of planets in general.
