Maja

Maja was a neighbor of the Thayne family while Jake and Caleb were growing up and was practically part of the family. She visited the family nearly every day and eventually fell in love with Caleb. Before the System, Maja was studying at a university about a half hour away in a larger city. She was approximately 8 months pregnant when the Earth was integrated into the system.

Maja had a very different tutorial than any of the others. As a pregnant woman, she was placed in a developmental tutorial which consisted of children, pregnant women, and people who worked with children or in the medical profession before the system. There was little actual fighting in the tutorial. Upon returning to Earth, she was escorted to the city after the tutorial by Caleb himself, who had split off with a few others to get her.

Maja delivered her son in the new world. Having a newborn in this all-new environment required Maja and Caleb to quickly adapt. Caleb, Maja, and Caleb's parents, Debra and Robert, formed a mutual support system. The two couples live next door to one another and have dinner together most days. Debra and Robert provide support and company for Maja and Adam when Caleb has to travel for work.

Maja was initially unsure how to use her law education post-integration, but now works as a contract lawyer for Caleb and the Court of Shadows.^[1] As Adam has grown older, Maja has also focused on childcare and working with young children.^[2]

Her son was named after her grandfather whose name was also Adam.
