Legacies

Legacies were fundamentally a warrior caste, the martial aristocracy of the new world. They never used the Nightmare Spell as a safer way to Awaken. Their culture was harsh and unforgiving, making them capable of facing the fear of the Nightmare Spell. Being sent into the Dream Realm on the winter solstice was a rite of passage.^[3]

For example, in Forgotten Shore thousands of young men and women died before Changing Star conquered the Gateway. Those who survived were among the strongest champions of humanity, including Changing Star, Song of the Fallen, Nightingale, and Raised by Wolves.^[3]

• They are known to be trained for the Dream realm from a young age. For them becoming carriers of the Spell is a certainty instead of a possibility.^[4]
• Legacies are in a league of their own. They were deadly battle machines crafted to reign on any battlefield, trained from the moment they had taken their first step to wield weapons of war and destroy their enemies.^[5]
• In terms of the chances of becoming infected, Legacies are nothing special. Contrary to popular belief, they are not inherently predisposed to Awaken. There are just a few steps that a clan can take to ensure that its heirs do.^[6]
• The parents of a Legacy child must simply ask for help from a Saint. Hence why lesser clans always seek alliances with more powerful clans. The child is brought to the Dream Realm, and then returned to the clan. This way, the seed is already planted in their soul. The seed will inevitably bloom and bring them to the First Nightmare once they reach maturity.^[6]

• Legacies could not resist joining a glorious fight. They were known to pursue power and opportunity.^[7]
• Legacies are trained from childhood to be monstrous fighters.^[8]
