Stormsea is the location where the citadel formerly ruled by House of Night is located.[3][1]
Description
Far away and beyond reach, a vast expanse of rolling water was glistening under the starlit sky. Black clouds were flowing like tattered banners, torn apart by the violent winds.
Colossal waves were rising and falling, each taller than a fortress wall. Countless bolts of lightning were flashing, branching as they struck the restless surface of the water. — Chapter 1859 Untold |
It was a world of storms, winds and stars.[4]
The Stormsea was described as an endless and nebulous in Chapter 2588.
the Stormsea was as vast as the rest of the explored Dream Realm, with waters as different from each other as Godgrave is from the lawn in front of Bastion. Humans could survive in some regions, but traveling freely across it was impossible, and even those who avoided the most dangerous waters often died. The Eternal City was said to be hidden in the heart of the Stormsea.[5]
It is a place where space and time were unpredictable. A day could be so short that it could be missed in the blink of an eye, while night often overstayed its welcome. For the most part, the vast expanse of undulating water was shrouded in twilight, with pale stars shimmering in the distant sky. At times, however, the Stormsea could also be bathed in sunlight, with not a cloud in sight.[6]
Nature
Stormsea is place where space itself behaves strangely, and navigation is notoriously treacherous. Ordinary methods of sailing were unreliable because locations shifted, courses looped back, and travelers often ended up in hostile or unexplored waters. In the Stormsea, the stars were the only dependable means of navigation, though they too were mystical and difficult to read.[7]
This was why the Nightwalkers of the House of Night, descendants of the Storm God — also known as the Goddess of the Black Skies, of depths, oceans, darkness, stars, travel, guidance, and disaster — were indispensable as guides. Their lineage gave them the ability to navigate the sea by stars.[7]

The Citadels of the Stormsea were numerous strongholds scattered across the Stormsea, hidden within its eerie and unpredictable waters. Some had been ruled by the House of Night for decades, while others were conquered more recently as a result of Mordret infiltrating the Great Clan in preparation for the Domain War. One of these Citadels, formerly known as the Black Obelisk, was ceded to the River People after their escape from the Tomb of Ariel, providing them with a home in the unfamiliar world Ananke had brought them to.[8]
Trivia
- It was implied that it was related to the Twilight Sea. The former realm of King Daeron[4]
- It was mentioned in Chapter 1864 that every Citadel in the Stormsea was under Mordret's control.
- It is the Storm God's Realm.[9]
- Sunny had only ever glimpsed the Stormsea from the misty coast south of Bastion, never venturing into its waters. It held a somber significance, being the remains of the world once ruled by Daeron the Serpent King. The Twilight Sea that Daeron and Wind Flower had failed to save had already been consumed by the Dream Realm.[10]
