Article contents
An Aspect confluence of one's innate affinities and choices manifested as a magical specialization. Aspects grant the Awakened unique powers but also curse them with a Flaw.[1] One's Aspect was their own, existing outside of the Spell.[2]
Types
- Combat
- Utility - these Aspects were often useless in a fight but people who possessed them were so valued by society.[3]
Functions
The innate function of the Aspect:[4]
- Accessing the Soul Sea (An Awakened can access their Soul Sea after they pass First Nightmare[5])
- Controlling soul essence (After reaching Awakened rank, they are capable of perceiving and interacting with Soul Essence[1][6])
- Domain (A natural progression of one's power expression when they reach Supreme rank[4])
Aspect Related
Innate Ability
An ability that is different from Aspect Ability but is closely related or intrinsic to an Awakened Aspect, usually conditional. Not much is known about Innate Ability, except that this ability was present for Divine Aspect holders like Nephis and Sunny and Jet's Aspect Legacy.[7][8]

Aspect Ability
A magical ability tied to one's Aspect.[1] Aspect Abilities were diverse, unique, and powerful. Some could be categorized into types like combat, sorcery and utility but some were simply beyond imagination.[9]
Note: Every time an Awakened (Nightmare Spell Carriers) ranks up, they also gain another Aspect Ability based on rank e.g., Dormant Ability, Awakened Ability, Ascended Ability. However, in Transcendent Rank, they have what they call a Transformation Ability.

Aspect Rank
Same as Soul Rank. The higher the rank of the aspect, the more potential it has. It is not necessarily more powerful than a lesser one.[10]
Note: Aspect Rank is not fixed and can evolve depends on one's feat. (Refer to Kai's Aspect)

Aspect Legacy
Aspect Legacy was something that every Aspect contained, but very few Awakened ever received. Unlike the Boon of the First Nightmare, and every Nightmare after that, as well as the reward Sleepers received after returning from the Dream Realm for the first time, each Aspect Legacy had a unique set of requirements that the owner of the Aspect had to meet to unlock it.[11]
While the Aspect itself does not come from the Spell, the Legacy does. There is a set way to unseal it, and that this method is known only to the Spell.[12]

Legacy Relic
- Main article: Legacy Relics
After they mastered their Aspect Legacy, they were rewarded with a powerful relic known as a Legacy Relic. Usually, it was a Memory that synergized perfectly with their Aspect Abilities, or sometimes even an Echo.[11] Legacy Relics are powerful artifacts that were assumed to be created by the Spell.[13]
The whole Legacy Clans can be created around a single Legacy Relic. Legacy Relics are associated with the Aspect Legacy.[14]
Flaw
- Main article: Flaw
A unique curse that was placed on the Awakened as the price for gaining mystical power.[1] Every Awakened received a Flaw, sometimes called the counter. Flaws were as diverse as Abilities, ranging from comparatively harmless to crippling, or, in some cases, even fatal.[9] Even if the flaw is reversed, it is still a curse. The new curse is likely to be far worse than the old one.[15]
Note: An Awakened (Nightmare Spell Carriers) only gains a Flaw after passing their First Nightmare and receiving their Aspect.[9][5] But this does not apply to those Awakened naturally.[16]

Lineage and Aspect
Note: Possessing a lineage of a certain divine creature (Divine Lineage) doesn't mean their aspect has to be related to it as well.
Lineage and Aspect did not have to be directly connected.[17]
- Mordret carried the lineage of War God but the core of his Aspect seemed to be connected to reflections and mirrors rather than something to do with warfare.[17]
- Sunny carried the lineage of Weaver but possessed an Aspect tied to Shadow God.[17]
- Nephis carried the lineage of Sun God, but her Aspect was connected to the mythical Nephilim.[17]
Before Nightmare Spell
- Main article: Paths of Ascension
Every Awakened human has the potential to realize an Aspect, but not all succeed in doing so. As one progresses further along the path of Ascension, claiming an Aspect, along with a Flaw, becomes increasingly necessary. Advancing to the stage of Transcendence is impossible without both an Aspect and a Flaw.[18]
Trivia
- Each Awakened had a unique Aspect.[19][20]
- Aspects that allow Awakened to create Memories are rare.[21]
- Aspect seemed unaffected when one's connection to the Spell was gone.[22]
- In chapter 1409 and 1412, Nephis experienced essence exhaustion that she couldn't access even her Dormant Ability.
- Family members are known to awaken Aspects of a similar nature perhaps due to shared upbringing and fate.[23][24] Although not always the case, it was especially true for Great Clans whose scions inherited the same lineage Attribute.[24]
- According to Cassie, a severe flaw indicates an extraordinary aspect.[25]
