The Chain of Nightmares was the start of a global catastrophe. The Nightmare Spell was slowly consuming humanity.[1]

According to Morgan, the Chain of Nightmares won't stop in Antarctica. It is only the start and soon every continent would be the same as Antarctica.[2]

Cause

The Ascension of many Awakened caused the growing number and intensity of the Nightmare Gates. This correlation is the reason why the Sovereigns are suppressing the emergence of new Saints.[3][2]

Two Futures

First Possibility

Reveal
The destruction of the waking world may not necessarily mean the destruction of humanity. A small part of humanity, with access to the Dream Realm, will persist. The number of Awakened, Masters, and Saints will increase due to the Nightmare Spell, leading to an increase in infected individuals, Sleepers, Awakened, Masters, and Saints in the coming years.[4]

People would survive in the small part of the Dream Realm that had already been conquered by humanity, with Citadels like Bastion and Ravenheart that were already like cities.[4]

In the future, a Saint would hold immense value and as a Saint, one would be able to bring even mundane people into the Dream Realm.[4]

The Sovereigns have given up on the waking world, focusing on creating a landing zone for humanity in the Dream Realm.[4]

Second Possibility

Reveal
The future Nephis believes in, seeing the Sovereigns as traitors and sinners. Nephis believes that if a new Supreme appeared, conquered the Fifth Nightmare, and became Sacred or Divine, a divine miracle could save everyone.[4]
