Shadows were different from Echoes which were mere replicas of the creatures that had left them behind. After all, shadows are mercurial by nature, so a "Shadow" is capable of change to some extent, it is capable of growth. This was the principal difference between an Echo and a Shadow.[1]
Note: This lists all of the Echoes and Shadows Sunny received, whether it was still active, were destroyed, evolved, or transformed. The names with strikethrough were not active or already destroyed.

Shadows
- Main article: Shadow (Creature)
To turn an Echo into a Shadow, Sunny had to possess the corresponding shadow in his Soul Sea to transform an Echo.[9]
Sunny speculated that he would only ever be able to control seven Shadows, at most. It is due to the relationship of his Shadows to his Class. Even though Soul Serpent was currently away, each of the Shadows occupied one of his cores.[10]
The Nightmare Spell no longer provided streamlined methods for advancing Sunny's Shadows beyond the Supreme Rank and Apotheosis. Sunny speculated that this limitation was either because creating deities exceeded the Spell's capabilities or because the Spell was rationing its resources. At the time, none of his Shadows could be elevated past Supreme through the Spell's usual means. The sole exception was Soul Serpent, which was stated to be capable of becoming Sacred if Sunny fully mastered the sixth step of Shadow Dance.[11]

| 999 1000(Revealed) |
Evolved to Jade Saint after she fought with Mordret's vessel, Castellan, in the Palace of Imagination.[17][18]. She also had unknowingly absorbed the Others's dissolving corpses into herself as eerie mist, unleashing a vortex of Nothing.[19] | Runes Shadow Rank: [Heart of Darkness] [Ember of Divinity] The [Spark of Divinity] was replaced by the [Ember of Divinity]. The light of divinity and true darkness now coexisted within Saint.[21]
Shadow Abilities: [Weapon Sage], [Underworld Armament], [Mantle of Darkness], [Blade of Darkness]. [Mantle of Darkness] The physical augmentation of [Mantle of Darkness] and the embrace of Sunny's four shadows resulted in a powerful outcome. Saint was able to heal herself when surrounded by darkness, which was an incredible boon. The last part of the rune description that spoke of her heart could also mean soul, suggesting that Saint's true darkness and essence were linked. The replenishment rate of it would increase.[21] Saint's abilities were similar to the Black Knight's, but with a serious caveat. She, as an Ascended Devil, seemed to possess dual affinity, both to the shadows and to the elemental darkness. Those were supposed to be mutually exclusive, but were not, in her case. Saint's nature as a Shadow led to a paradoxical result, as she enjoyed the favor of both mundane and true darkness.[21] [Blade of Darkness]. Saint used this ability to fix her sword herself. As [Battle Master] and [Weapon Sage], she could wield any weapon with superb proficiency, and with the [Blade of Darkness], it meant that the true darkness she was a vessel of could take any form. The dark weapon would be as strong as Saint herself, growing stronger if Saint evolved again. It could kill both corporeal and incorporeal creatures and augment existing weapons or weapon-type Memory, making it more powerful and adding an elemental property to its attacks.[21]

| 2550(Evolution) 2567-2568(Revealed) |
(The evolved form of Onyx Saint. She Rank up instead of usual Class up.) True Shadow Creature[22] |
Runes Shadow Rank: Supreme.[23][24] Shadow Attributes: [Princess of the Underworld][26], [War Master], [Stalwart], [Flame of Divinity], [Heart of Darkness], [Vessel of Nothing].[24][26] Two of her Attributes had evolved, and a new one had appeared (Supreme Rank):[24]
After evolving from a Devil to a Tyrant: she obtained one Attribute (Princess of the Underworld) and one Ability (Royal Banner)[26] [War Master] [Battle Master] evolved into [War Master], which has to do with strategy and tactics as opposed to personal combat skill. It was an Attribute fit for a general.[24] [Vessel of Nothing] Saint had gained a measure of control over Nothing, which allowed her to contain it within herself and make use of it to pursue her goals. Apart from her ability to reduce her size and mass the ghostly mist could be used on her new ability [Shield of Nothing].[24] It was also mentioned by Sunny in Chapter 3061 that this affects an area around herself and since Saint usually led the Shadow Legion in battle, shades would be weaken by this. [Princess of the Underworld] The title refers to the inheritance of the Underworld's crown and the burden of its enduring legacy of warfare.[26] Shadow Abilities: [Royal Banner][26], [Weapon Sage], [Underworld Armament], [Mantle of Darkness], [Blade of Darkness], [Shield of Nothing].[24][26] [Shield of Nothing] Shield of Nothing was not a literal shield rather it was a field of annulment. The field deny every one of their own powers when they face Saint in combat as long as she sustains the Shield of Nothing. The Aspects of Awakened and the unholy powers of the Nightmare Creatures, as well as their Attributes would either be heavily suppressed or outright negated around her.[24] [Royal Banner] Sunny interprets this Ability as allowing Saint to fulfill the role of a general. Those who follow her command are connected to her through a mystical bond, and through her to each other. This enables Saint to command her soldiers directly, allowing any army under her command to act with an extreme level of unity, cohesion, and tactical excellence. Her [Warmaster] Attribute complements this, expressing her profound knowledge of all kinds of warfare.[26] Details Saint had completed her own evolution in Chapter 2567. As a result, she had attained the rank of Supreme. Although Saint had not become a Tyrant, several of her Attributes had evolved, and she gained a frightening new Ability.[23]
| Soul Serpent | 358 359(Revealed) |
Inactive[30][31] |
Received from Level 1 Mastery of his Aspect Legacy. Note: Tied to Shadow Dance. Shadow Fragments are not needed for this Shadow. Serpent's class is tied to Sunny's class while the rank depends on Sunny's mastery of Shadow Dance. Runes Shadow Rank: Shadow Description: [When the end came, Shadow was the last of the gods to be destroyed. Many have resented him for creating death, but in the end, death embraced all.] Shadow Attributes: [Shadow Guide], [Spirit Guide], [Soul Weapon], [Soul Beast], [Soul Companion]. In Chapter 1731, the [Spirit Guide] and the [Soul Companion] Attributes were both written by Sunny. The name and the description of the Attribute were the result of his observations and consideration. [Shadow Guide] Ability: With Soul Serpent, his essence is consumed at a slightly slower pace and can restore at a faster one. It enables him to control the essence better.[32] The circulation of shadow essence through the coils of the serpent was faster after it increased its rank. The rate of essence expenditure and regeneration was also improved.[33] [Spirit Guide] This new power of Serpent's is unknown whether a separate attribute or an evolution of the [Shadow Guide]. He identified a distinction between the two: the [Shadow Guide] only functions when Serpent is in a tattoo form, while the [Spirit Guide] doesn't. Whether it was the tattoo, the Soul Weapon, or the Soul Beast forms, the spirit essence of shadows seems more active around Serpent, nourishing Sunny's soul better.[45] [Soul Weapon] Tattoo form (default): an intricate image of a black serpent coiled around his arms and his torso, its tail resting just above his right hand, its head just above his left. The serpent almost seemed to move under his skin, two curved fangs threatening to break its surface. It was striking, beautiful, and disturbing. It was the Shadow God's mark.[32] [Soul Beast] [Soul Companion] Sunny initially thought the [Soul Companion] Attribute was an evolution of the [Serpentine Steel] Ability, but later decided otherwise. He is unaware of the depths of this Attribute but discovers that it could enhance his Shadow Shell, allowing it to channel abilities like [Soul Reaver] and [Slaying Blade].[45] Shadow Abilities: [Serpentine Steel], [Soul Reaver], [Grace of Shadows], [Formless], [Mark of Shadows], [Slaying Blade]. In Chapter 1731, the [Mark of Shadows] and [Slaying Blade] were abilities of Soul Serpent. [Serpentine Steel] Acquired when Sunny reached Demon class.[39] [Soul Reaver] [Grace of Shadows] This ability allowed Sunny to transfer the ownership of the Soul Serpent to someone else. Presumably, Grace of Shadows could be bestowed upon anyone with a shadow but doing so would leave him vulnerable. Acquired at Third Mastery of Shadow Dance (Ascended).[34] [Formless] [Mark of Shadows] Sunny discovered that Serpent could create lesser versions of itself, potentially allowing him to place a serpent tattoo on someone, resulting in a little soul snake born in their soul. Sunny was unsure if this snake was a new being or a manifestation of Serpent. He tried to mark his Shadows and Rain but it didn't work. He believed the soul needed to be awakened to nourish and accommodate the little soul snake and for the Mark of Shadows to take root. The Mark of Shadows was connected to the [Grace of Shadows], offering benefits without Soul Serpent parting with Sunny.[45] [Slaying Blade] Sunny believed that the foremost will of all living beings was the will to survive and continue existing. Killing powerful beings required their killing intent to overpower their will to exist. In its Soul Weapon form, the Soul Serpent was as deadly to greater beings as mundane creatures, meaning that the usual resistance of powerful creatures rooted in their instinct to survive can be bypassed. Normally, killing such beings requires overpowering their will to exist, since even the sharpest blade cannot harm them without sufficient killing intent. However, with Slaying Blade active, Soul Serpent becomes unexplainably deadly, capable of slaying both mundane and highly ranked adversaries.[45] |

True Shadow Creature[22] | Received from killing Nightmare (Black Steed). Runes Shadow Rank: [Dark Destrier] Nightmare was incredibly swift and enduring. He was also a war horse, bred to ride into battle without hesitation or fear. His two passive Attributes both increased speed, strength, and resilience — [Dark Destrier] when he and his rider were surrounded by shadows, and [Dreadlord] when the he inspired terror in the hearts of their enemies.[49] [Dreamwalker] [Flowing Shadow] This ability is like Shadow Step without the teleportation part.[49] [Mantle of Fear] This ability is to radiate an aura of terror and could debilitate weaker enemies completely. Even if more powerful creatures were able to resist some of the effect, a seed of dread was still going to be planted into their minds. This was directly tied to the [Dreadlord] Attribute of Nightmare, which made him stronger the more he was feared.[49] [Nightmare] Debut
Dormant Nightmares: [0].[49] Current
(Refer to Black Steed's Nightmares) Nightmare's tyrant ability, one that allowed him to create minions, was meant to subjugate real nightmares (actual dreams). The more of them served him, the more powerful he grew. These nightmares seemed to possess a Rank of their own.[49] [Dream Curse][49] The Ability was initially not accessible.[49] After Ascension, the [Dream Curse], Nightmare's Terror Ability, was also unlocked.[50] (Refer to Nightmare's Dream Curse Progression).
| 1079 | True Shadow Creature[22] | Runes Shadow Rank: Shadow Attributes: [Lucky], [Marvel], [Ravenous], [Shadow Sworn], [Lucky] [Marvel] [Ravenous] The [Ravenous] Attribute offers a subtle and precious benefit: unlike Nightmare and Saint, the imp doesn't need to consume Memories to rise to a higher rank. Instead, it simply had to devour, becoming a Supreme Devil by devouring Nightmare Creatures or other creatures in great numbers. The more powerful the creature, the better its abilities.[55] [Shadow Sworn] This attribute appeared after Sunny had fed the imp with his flesh. It was the same as what Shadow Blade Kurt had possessed, and showed a high affinity to shadows.[55]
It seemed that munching on the MWP pushed the Imp over the threshold from [Nascent Iron Body] to [Lesser Iron Body]. In the future, it would have a chance to become truly indestructible.[55] This attribute evolved to [Greater Steel Body] due to eating the blessed steel from the Sun Prince.[56]
The little fiend's whole body was now as resilient as a weapon forged out of Transcendent steel.[56] This attribute evolved to [Complete Steel body] after consuming the silver armor of the Black Turtle.[57] [Complete Steel Body] The [Greater Steel Body] had become [Complete Steel body]. The Spell deemed that the Imp's evolved body as flawless, close to having no physical vulnerabilities. His indestructible steel body is a weapon in and of itself, coupled with his dual affinity to shadow and flame, the fiend would be a terror on the battlefield.[57] Shadow Abilities: [Scavenger], [Devourer], [Shadow Step], [Internal Heat]. Runes [Marvelous Mimic] was a Shadow created from the modified Covetous Coffer and the shadow of the Mordant Mimic.[62] An Ascended Devil.[59][60] Details The Marvelous Mimic could produce soul coins by devouring living beings. These coins could be used to strengthen one's soul, but if fed back, they would strengthen it instead. To Sunny, its most important traits depend on the potency of its master's soul, not the Shadow's own.[63]

Runes Slayer did not get to be named by the Nightmare Spell. She did not even get to be called -unknown-, as if the Spell denied her the right to possess a name — any name, not only the name of Orphne of the Nine. This was described as a little peculiar, but Orphne had killed Weaver. She had killed Weaver twice. Because of this, in a sense, the Spell had been born from her blade. Despite that connection, it didn't really make sense that the Spell refused to acknowledge her.[64] Abilities As a Shadow Creature, Slayer did not wield a true Aspect or Flaw but retained powers derived from Orphne's Aspect.[65]
Attribute Slayer carried the Attribute [Pure Soul]. This Attribute explained the unique nature of her soul, her flawless battle technique, and her survival in the Shadow Realm for thousands of years. Orphne's soul had been pure and unyielding, shining with light that could not be tainted. That purity fueled her determination, sincerity, and resolve, allowing Slayer to persist in her quest to slay the Demon of Fate, and later to endure as a shadow without succumbing to the Shadow Realm. Practically, this Attribute made her soul essence pristine and thus more potent, empowering her attacks and strengthening her Will.[66] Details Sunny took the risk to kill the shadow of one of the Nine[67] (Orphne).[68]
Slayer had undergone a long evolution within the dark flames of Sunny's soul after killing and consuming the shadow of Condemnation[69][70], an evolution that concluded during Sunny's time in the Palace of Imagination.[23] After learning the name of the woman whose shadow she had once been, showed a subtle but meaningful reaction: her gaze turned distant for a short while before returning to its usual feral darkness, though with a slight change in her demeanor. She seemed to have regained her Aspect, or at least a shadow of it, and possessed a Transformation Ability.[23] In Chapter 3152, while most of the Shadows were granted independence, Sunny did not grant Slayer independence, despite having formed a working relationship with her, as he considered her too dangerous to be unleashed upon the world—at least for now. |
| 2977, 2979(Confirmed), 2980(Named) | True Shadow Creature[31] |
Debut as Seventh Shadow Sunny's seventh Shadow was the Vile Spawn, the fledgling left behind by the Vile Thieving Bird for Sunny to look after. It had become Sunny's new Shadow after the Thieving Bird departed, possibly because its parent judged that it was ready to leave the nest and spread its wings, or because it wanted the Lord of Shadows to teach the young Devil how to become a proper Shadow Creature. The Vile Spawn often assumed Sunny's own pale form, wearing a bright smile that appeared chilling and sinister. It had no true shape of its own, being a true shadow capable of taking the form of anything it chose to be cast by. By absorbing another being's life force, it could completely transform into that being's shape, as it had done with Sunny, Nephis, and the Wolf, even inheriting the Flaw of the form it copied.[71]
|
Shadow Control could be applied to the Shadows*. Sunny's own shadow (Shadow Helpers) was able to enhance not only his body, Memories, and various inanimate objects but also his Shadow.[72][73][74] Shadows fed on Memories and are capable of growth. They dwelled within the deepest part of Sunny's soul.[75][74][76]
Note: Shadow - an echo transformed by Sunny or Shadow received from his Aspect Legacy or received a Shadow from killing other unique shadows. To not be confused with Sunny's invaluable shadow helper.
