Relatives
- ✞ Father: His dad was employed by one of the numerous maintenance crews that took care of the city's outer barriers.[1] Sunny didn't remember his dad too well, because he was too little when he passed away.[2] He remembered his father as more of a feeling than a person—"big, quiet, strong, and caring." According to his mother, the father had a mischievous side and a hot temper beneath his calm facade. His choice to work as a maintenance worker instead of joining a local gang reflects his strong character and commitment to providing for his family. He worked on one of the city barrier maintenance crews, and died in an accident not long after Rain was born. Sunny suspects Rain's interest in infrastructure and building might be inherited from their father.[3]
- ✞ Mother: His mother has a poetic soul, he was named "Sunless" due to the fact he was born during a solar eclipse, and his sister was named "Rain".[4] She worked in an underground factory that produced air filtration systems.[1] According to Sunny, she was a rather attractive young woman.[5] Unlike his father, he remembers his mother perfectly. She was like a ray of sunshine.[2]
Rain
Biological sister.[4] His sister, as a toddler, used to follow him around, as though they were glued together.[6] To him, she was the last memento of their long-lost home.[7] He was drawn to the half-forgotten memories of a happy time that she represented. His desire to reconnect with Rain was both selfish and misguided since he knew that nothing could bring those memories back to life. He also harbored a lot of resentment toward her. For having a loving family while he had none, for being fine, and for not needing him at all.[8]
Despite their different life experiences, his sister answered the essence of combat the same way he had long ago in the desolate hell of Forgotten Shore.[9] After Sunny became Master, he had been careful not to appear too friendly as he still did not want anyone to know that they were siblings.[10]
Rain is Sunny's only remaining family, and for many years, she was the only person he cared about. Despite Sunny forming deep connections with others over time, Rain continues to hold a unique and singular place in his heart.[11]
The reason Sunny is 26 years old in Chapter 1592 despite being born twenty-five years ago and five years older than Rain despite having been only four years before her is because of his Third Nightmare. The Tomb of Ariel is a bit confusing due to having a River of Time inside.[12]
Sunny cherished his relationship with his sister, Rain. Unlike in the past, when he had chosen not to reveal himself to her because he believed he had nothing good to offer, Rain now knew they were family. He watched her grow into someone softer and gentler than himself, yet immensely strong in her own way, and took comfort in knowing that she did not have to bear the same scars he had endured. He felt that he could now offer her the world, making her life brighter and warmer, and the two had grown as close as siblings were meant to be, even if she liked to tease him.[13]

“ That is a horrible plan. You want to travel around the Dream Realm battling Nightmare Creatures? Fine. Let's do it together. We can try to go through the Hollow Mountains and reach the human Citadels on the other side. And that's just the south. With can also try north, east, and west, searching for an unclaimed Gateway. Two of us will have a better chance to survive. The two of us, together… it's better than being alone. Right? ” ― To Nephis,
Chapter 350 End of the Nightmare
Nephis is Sunny's master, companion, friend, and teacher. Besides his family, Nephis is one of the two people (the other is Cassie when they were in Forgotten Shore) he cares about in this world besides his family. The way he felt toward Neph was almost like a second Flaw due to the fact he couldn't refuse her.[14] No one knew Nephis more than him.[15] His and Nephis' fates did seem to be intertwined. Their connection went far beyond the tether of the Shadow Bond.[16] In Sunny's mind, Nephis had always been a symbol of strength. A domineering presence that swept away all obstacles to achieve her goals but in truth, she had spent most of her life as prey being pursued by terrifying predators.[17]
Sunny's infuriation with Nephis was primarily due to his feelings for her. Nephis, through fate or coincidence, was his person, the only one there was and would be for him for better or worse.[18]
If it was for Nephis, Sunny wouldn't want to make anything less than flawless.[19] She meant more to him even though she does not know.[20]
Sunny and Nephis' relationship, despite their secrets, forgotten past, and imminent war, continued tenaciously despite the uncertain future. The timing was atrocious, but they had always been standing between them. They were separated for two years, and Sunny left for Antarctica after a month. This was the first time Sunny had matured enough to know what he wanted and express his feelings. Despite knowing her for almost ten years, they had only had a few fleeting moments together in the depths of the Third Nightmare.[21]
More Details
{{ScrollBox |height=500px |content= In the Academy, Sunny learned that Nephis also received a True Name in her First Nightmare and was curious how she got it while comparing it to his experience.[22] When they met in the Dream Realm, he was a bit intimidated by Nephis due to her hard-to-read face and her having a True Name as well.[23] Seeing Nephis fight, he asked her to teach him how to fight in exchange for his share of soul shards.[6] Along the way, they grew close enough to care for and know each other so well, to the point that he even had to inflict pain on himself to keep his lucidity intact. This is to execute their plan to escape the enthrallment of the Soul Tree.[24][25] He was even worried about her when she remained unconscious for two days after their encounter with the harrowing tentacled creature. When the gaze of her striking grey eyes fell on him, Sunny felt his heart beating a little faster and was relieved that she was alive.[26]
Upon reaching the Dark City, his feelings about Neph were so complex that he didn't know how to deal with them. The fact that she simply assumed that they were going to continue working together, as though it was a given, had not avoided his attention. For some reason, this small detail gave him a warm feeling. Then being reminded of the existence of the trade they had before and realizing that it was over, he felt a sudden pang of regret. It was as though one of the few strings that connected them had been suddenly severed.[27] Before he left the Dark City, he opened up to Nephis about his family when he asked her about her goals.[28] This led him to learn of her true goal of destroying the Spell that Sunny thought she was insane. For her goals, she was willing to condemn everyone to death causing Sunny to be unable to trust her again.[29] Neph was the person he longed to see the most and, at the same time, hoped to never see again. She was the true reason why he had to leave the castle.[26]
Even if the things between them became strained, she was still one of the only two people he cared about in this world besides his family. The way he felt toward Neph was almost like a second Flaw. No matter how much he wanted to, he just couldn't get rid of it. Somewhere along the way, it had taken root in his soul. He had hoped that it would wither and die if they were apart, but instead, it just grew stronger. And now there was no escape from it. He could feel himself being pulled back into the mess of humanity once again. But he just couldn't refuse Neph.[14] He thinks that Nephis is morbidly cunning sometimes, but other times, she is so stupidly naive when she saves him from being skewed by a spire messenger.[30] After they came back to the Dark City, they cleared up their misunderstandings about each other and Caster.[31]
He was the person who knew her best in the world. He was her companion, friend, and pupil. He was already practically her shadow, her compliant little helper. Caught in the net of her schemes, in her insane, insatiable desire, and incapable of breaking free — not only because there was no other choice, but also because he didn't want to be apart from her.[32] He knew her flowing, deadly battle style better than anyone except for Nephis herself. This led him to think that if he had a chance to make that one final step to mastering the first level of Shadow Dance, it was in a fight against her.[33]
In their final confrontation at the Crimson Spire, she forced him into a situation where he would abandon her. But he saw through her deception and told her that they could do her plan together. Being stubborn about not leaving her, she was forced to call his True Name, binding her will to him. Leaving his world to crumble.[33]
Inside the endless space between dream and reality, Sunny learned about Nephis' Aspect, Abilites, and Attributes due to their connection as master and slave. He noted that the name of her Flaw was Pristine Soul, while he was Clear Conscience which was kind of funny. One is "lost from light", and the other is the source of it. He now knew some of her secrets.[34] Now that his most important secret was revealed and Nephis had become his master, it was as though a crushing burden had been removed from his chest, replaced by another, even more, terrible weight. He could finally allow himself to relax a little for a while. Not because he trusted her that much, but because she was currently imprisoned in the Dream Realm, unable to enforce her control over him even if she wished to.[35]
Back in the real world, Sunny visited the underground room where Nephis was. For a second, his face became contorted by a terrible grimace. Grief, anger, fear, and longing mixed in his eyes, then they disappeared, hidden behind a mask of cold indifference. Sunny stared at Nephis for a long time, trying to get his emotions under control. He knew that seeing her like this, weak and helpless, would affect him. But he didn't know just how much it was going to hurt him. He also had not anticipated how dark the thoughts entering his mind would be but he couldn't kill her.[36]
Firstly, because there was no guarantee that Nephis would die if her body was destroyed. And secondly, and maybe more importantly he simply could not bring himself to harm Nephis. Not again, not anymore, and not like this.[36] He both desperately longed for Nephis to return and wished that she died. His emotions for her were intense, overwhelming, and an absolute mess. He believed that she would achieve the impossible once again and make it back to the real world. When Nephis returned, he had to be ready for the worst. Sunny didn't think that the Nephis would abuse her power over him, he was almost sure that she wouldn't. Not only because of the bond between them but also because in Neph's warped mind, doing so would simply be beneath her. However, he wasn't going to let this sweet hope prevent him from creating contingencies. If she ever decided to truly make him a slave, one of them was going to die.[37]
With his fate hopelessly entangled with that of Nephis, who was embroiled in these clandestine machinations just by her birth, he didn't have a choice he needed the knowledge to make plans. He needs to become stronger, as strong and fast as he possibly can, to not fall behind Nephis. From now on, this was his life's goal.[37]
He still visits Nephis in the hospital complex to bring flowers and have a one-sided conversation with Nephis in the safety of his mind, which he considers crazy behavior. He wasn't as fine and stable as he pretended to be. He was angry, guilt-ridden, and lonely. He missed Nephis much more than he had ever expected. Out there on the Forgotten Shore, she had somehow become a fundamental part of his life. It was strange to exist without her occupying a place in the same world as him. He also visited her mother because remembered that she didn't like the thought of her mother being alone. No one knew Nephis more than him.[15]
When Sunny used the enchantment of Weaver's Mask to see the Strings of Fate, among those threads connected to him, there were two that shone brighter than the rest. One of them was made out of pure white flame stretching far away into the distance leading towards the Hollow Mountains.[38]
When Nephis returned to the waking world, Sunny had a profound sense of relief, contentment, and joy. He had the impression that something precious, something vital that he had lost had been returned to him unexpectedly, something he had been missing.[39]
His and Nephis' fates did seem to be intertwined. Their connection went far beyond the tether of the Shadow Bond, from being born in the same year to receiving Divine and complementing Aspects, from meeting at the gates of the Academy to being sent to the same small patch of the Forgotten Shore whether by coincidence or not. Placing Nephis in his path had a lot to do with his intrinsic Attribute, [Fated].[16]
At some point, Sunny lost the desire to compare himself to Nephis. The first change was when she returned from the Dream Realm and the second, he had lost the habit of summoning her runes daily in the Antarctic Center. He realized that shadow and soul fragments were not a true measure of strength, as he had seen countless mundane soldiers fight against Nightmare Creatures without surrendering. As a result, he stopped paying constant attention to Nephis' runes without even noticing it.[40]
In Sunny's mind, Nephis had always been a symbol of strength. A domineering presence that swept away all obstacles to achieve her goals but in truth, she had spent most of her life as prey being pursued by terrifying predators. Sunny remembered her dream he visited about one of the attempts on her life. She knew about weakness just as much as he did.[17]
Sunny and Nephis' relationship, despite being distant due to their choices, remained strong as battle partners. Their bond was forged in battles on the Forgotten Shore, and their ability to act seamlessly was even higher than the unity granted to warriors of Valor by forged swords. They had countless battles together, she had taught him how to wield the sword, while he taught her how to control her soul essence as a Master. Despite their differences, their bond remained unchanged.[41]
Sunny had gone against Nephis' wishes in every instance where it mattered, so he was unsure if she trusted him or if he would have trusted himself. Afterall, he had abandoned her in the Dark City, refused to leave her in the Crimson Spire, and fled again at the grand ball of Clan Valor just to end up by her side. Despite all that, Nephis trusted Sunny.[42]
On the dark island, sailing through a river of unholy blood on the corpse of a dreadful monster, and being pulled into the past by the current. He was happy to share this experience with someone he was fond of and had fun in the depths of a nightmare. He admitted he was fond of Nephis.[43]
He realized that he had been hopelessly in love with Nephis since the Forgotten Shore and had not grown weaker despite their many disagreements. Sunny's infuriation with Nephis was primarily due to his feelings for her, as he would not have cared if he felt nothing for her.[18]
Sunny's feelings for Nephis have not faded or disappeared despite the long period of separation. He has felt relief, joy, and completeness when she returned to the waking world, the maddening fury when she joined Valor and the deathly terror he felt when the Skinwalker snapped her neck. Nephis, through fate or coincidence, was his person, the only one there was and would be for him for better or worse.[18]
However, both Sunny and Nephis kept quiet due to various reasons. Sunny was not shy about handling emotions, but they had different goals and emotions that were directly opposed to each other. Nephis' pursuit of revenge against the Spell left no space for affection, and Sunny had his reasons to stay silent as well.[18]
Throwing away all the complicated thoughts about the nature of freedom and what it meant to be free in this world, there are only three things left. Sunny himself, Nephis, and the connection between them. He had previously run away from her twice, once in the Dark City and once at the Valor clan ball. However, he knows that any relationship between the current them is impossible as long as Shadow Bond exists. By abandoning her on the shores of Verge, he would be moving towards her instead of running away, as only by becoming free of her could Sunny be with her.[44]
Four years after, Sunny had thought that he would be ready to face her. However, he was wrong. Seeing Nephis, her silver hair, grey eyes, and stubborn resolve, he felt as if lightning struck him. His heart raced faster than when he had faced the Great Demon. Looking at Nephis, Sunny remembered all the reasons he had come up with to spare himself from being close to his former cohort. He understood that he was doomed, as all reason was obliterated by seeing Nephis.[45]
Despite their four-year separation and her lack of memory of him, their cooperation was still as seamless and comfortable, moving like two parts of a single whole without needing to communicate or signal each other.[46][46]
When Sunny saw Nephis wearing a simple white dress, he was grateful that it was already dark outside because her appearance might have caused the Brilliant Emporium to be besieged by admirers. He might have to hold back from minting a fresh batch of soul coins.[19]
His first meeting with Nephis is still fresh in his memory. Back on the bridge in front of the academy, he had been attracted by how aloof and detached from the world Nephis was. He also felt a subtle sense of kinship because they were the only sleepers who wore standard-issue police tracksuits.[47]
Sunny expressed his feelings for Nephis without considering the consequences, which could be heartbreaking, but he doesn't have much to lose. He reflected on his actions as Cassie had pointed out. He believed that keeping his true identity from Nephis was unfair. However, Sunny cannot be entirely honest with Nephis, as she would forget the truth. Sunny's love for Nephis and her love for him, the years they thought about each other, fighting side by side, and surviving the horrors of the Nightmare Spell together. They met at the Academy, where they were both shaped by each other. Their troubled adulthood resulted from their meeting. It made any relationship with her inevitably based on deceit. The only honest thing Sunny could do for Nephis is to leave and have no contact with her, but he is unwilling to do so. He had made a choice and lost her, but he wanted to be found by her, so he must lie.[48] They had agreed to turn their pretend relationship into a real one.[49]
Sunny understood that Neph's feelings for him were shallower than his feelings for her were. From her perspective, they had only known each other for a few months, but it was unpleasant to hear her say that there is probably anything left that she loves.[50]
Sunny finds himself deeply enjoying the slow development of his relationship with Nephis, cherishing the tender moments, the flirtation, and the thrill of closeness. Although he and Nephis know what they want, he's hesitant to push forward, aware of how they view each other differently. While Nephis trusts and is fond of him, Sunny feels the depth of his bond is one-sided, rooted in his long-held connection to her—a connection she doesn't fully remember.[51]
He hopes she'll grow to value him more before they take their relationship to the next level. For now, he's content to wait, finding these moments precious. But when Nephis winks at him, his resolve falters. Suddenly, his patience wanes, and he's ready to abandon caution, thinking perhaps fortune favors the bold.[51] Note: It was implied they had done the deed.
Sunny's feelings for Nephis are a complex mix of deep passion, fulfillment, and longing. He sees their relationship as a dream come true, surpassing his wildest expectations and filled with mutual trust, respect, and tenderness. Despite this, Sunny is painfully aware of the asymmetry between them. While Nephis genuinely cares for him and perhaps even feels infatuated, her feelings lack the dire depths of his own due to her lost memories of their shared past. This disparity leaves Sunny craving more—he wants her to desire to know him fully, to ask questions and uncover the parts of his life she does not remember, even if he cannot answer. He struggles with the belief that her lack of curiosity might stem from not caring enough, which casts a shadow over their otherwise blissful connection. Yet, when Nephis takes an active interest in something meaningful, Sunny feels a spark of hope, as though he is slowly but surely growing on her. Despite the joy and intensity of their relationship, Sunny's greedy heart yearns for a deeper and more reciprocal connection.[52]
Sunny felt a profound awareness of his ongoing transformation—both a promising step toward Apotheosis and a deeply unsettling erosion of his humanity. Yet amid this unease, Sunny found comfort in the one constant of his life: his unwavering love for Nephis. Despite all the trials and separations, their bond endured, and he realized that while he saw himself as her anchor to humanity, she might also be his.[53]
In Chapter 2844, Sunny reflected that although he was already happy and content with the fragile closeness he had built with Nephis, he was also greedy, and wanted more—so much more, even as the possibility that their relationship might end made him treasure what they currently had.
Despite carrying immense responsibility and fighting constantly across both the waking world and the Dream Realm, Sunny found happiness in the relationships that surrounded him. He spent his days side by side with Nephis, the woman he loved and who loved him back, knowing who he was. Even amid endless battles, they found time to enjoy each other's company through quiet, ordinary moments such as sharing meals, watching the sunrise together, talking about meaningless things, sharing stories, cutting each other's hair, arguing over nonsensical opinions, reading over each other's shoulders, and simply witnessing one another in their most natural moments. Sunny often found himself watching Nephis as she read reports or meditated between battles, feeling that he could not be happier. Fighting alongside her also gave his battles meaning, since he was no longer fighting merely to survive, but so that others could survive.[13]
Friends
Cassie
Cassie was one of the two people he cared about in this world besides his family (referenced in ForgottenShore).[14] After Sunny severed his ties to Cassie, he missed the version of her that had lived in his mind before everything had turned to ashes. He missed their friendship, their camaraderie, their trust in each other, things that had been broken and lost.[15]
After the Night Temple event, she and Sunny somehow mended their friendship and decided to be honest with her.[54]
Before, Cassie had been a sweet, but helpless girl, broken by the severity of her crippling Flaw. Now, the helpless girl was now a beautiful young woman whose softness concealed unwavering will and ominous power.[55]
More Details
Sunny was a bit disheartened when he learned that Cassie was blind due to her flaw, thinking that she wouldn't have survived her First Nightmare if she had been blind prior to entering the Spell. Even compared to his flaw which he thought was bad enough, no matter what Aspect Ability she had received in exchange for her sight, it was effectively a death sentence.[56] When they met again inside the Dream Realm, his opinion changed after learning about her ability. He was a bit relieved that she was only able to see Attributes, but still, he put up his guard around her. He finally realized how she knew about his birthday.[57]
During their time together in the Labyrinth, Cassie reminds Sunny of his own sister.[6] When she felt sorry for being useless, he cheered her up by telling her about his First Nightmare and the thing about luck.[58] She was also one of the reasons Sunny remained lucid while enthralled by the Soul Tree.[59] Later, his heart was gripped with worry, solely because she was more affected by the enthrallment of the Soul Tree than the rest of them.[25] After escaping the Soul Tree, their boat was destroyed by a tentacled creature. For the first time, he did not flee to save himself. Instead, he saved Cassie because he wanted to.[60] Then inside the castle, due to months spent camping together, being close to Cassie became a habit of his in case she needed help with something. He was unwilling to let her leave his sight even for a second because he didn't trust anyone there.[61]
Meeting her again after he left the castle, she just gave him a polite smile, then grew silent and turned away. This wasn't exactly the kind of welcome he had expected from her. He had been sure that she would at least give him a hug. However, he had a feeling that he already knew the true reason for her subdued attitude. It was her vision. He just didn't want to admit it.[62]
Inside the endless space between dream and reality, after learning about how Nephis knew of his True Name, Sunny felt hurt that Cassie betrayed him after everything he had done for her.[63]
He missed the version of Cassie that had lived in his mind before everything had turned to ashes. He missed their friendship, their camaraderie, their trust in each other things that had been broken and lost.[15]
| “ | ...I can understand. Rationally, I do. You were forced to make a terrible decision, with both choices being a betrayal. And you chose to help Neph, who was with you first. Who saved you when I would have just left you to die... But that doesn't mean that I can forgive it. You go to hell, Cassie. Go to hell and die there, for all I care. I hope that I will never see you again. | ” |
― To Cassie, | ||
Back in the real world, when Sunny visited Nephis' body, he asked her how she knew of his secret. After learning the truth, he cruelly told her that the secret was the reason Nephis got stuck in the Dream Realm alone. He severed his ties with Cassie and left.[36]
Despite their complicated relationship, Sunny invited her to join him in the second nightmare. Their manner of relationship is now purely an alliance of convenience. He could put away his resentment for the sake of mutual benefit.[64]
During their expedition to Night Temple, her great affinity to revelations, keen senses, and supernatural intuition complimented Sunny's battle prowess perfectly. It was almost disturbing how well they worked together, with him scouting ahead and obliterating monsters, her guiding them through the maze of shifting isles in a way that took them past the true horrors, the hidden hazards, and the Crushing. The strangest part about all of this was that they didn't even talk to each other that much, yet were able to achieve such a deep level of understanding. Their cooperation was efficient, seamless, and not burdened with emotions and other troublesome complications. An alliance of pure convenience.[65]
After the events in the Night Temple, Sunny and she mended their friendship, and Sunny went as far as shielding her from Cormac.[66] Cassie was included in his friends he was looking for inside the second nightmare.[67] When Sunny, told his friends about his secrets it seemed she knew what he has decided on.[54]
Sunny had thought he and Cassie were close, but he realized he knew little about her. He had never met her family, visited her home, or learned about her hobbies. Part of the reason for the distance between them was Cassie herself. After Awakening, she closed herself off from the outside world and the Ascension made it more pronounced.[68]
Deep inside, Sunny still saw Cassie as a helpless girl that desperately needed his assistance on the Forgotten Shore. Despite their drastic changes since then, the first impression was so deeply ingrained that erasing it was simply too difficult.[69]
There had been a time when Sunny and Cassie were close as siblings, and a time when they were like strangers, but it took a long time for Sunny to want to mend their relationship, but Cassie seems unwilling. No one knows what she's thinking, even Nephis, who is closest to her, could not tell what was happening in that head of hers. Perhaps that was the curse of being a seer.[70]
Another important relationship in Sunny's life was with Cassie, who had once again become his friend and companion. Their turbulent and complicated relationship had spanned most of their adult lives, encompassing both deep affection and scathing resentment, but those emotions had finally settled into a profound bond. Together, they continued to develop sorcery and strengthen the defenses of humanity's Citadel Cities. Cassie's voice accompanied Sunny into every battle, guiding him and helping him understand his enemies, and he had grown so accustomed to her presence that he knew he would feel lonely if she ever stopped watching over him.[13]
Effie
“ Well... it's either a very hungry human girl. Or a very gluttonous demon. ” ― To Cassie About Effie,
Chapter 125 A Feast in Time of Plague
Effie is one of his friends whom he met on Forgotten Shore. In the second nightmare, Sunny decided to be honest with her about his secrets.[54]
More Details
The first time Sunny saw Effie, he thought she was a gluttonous demon because of the disturbingly sizable pile of bones at her feet while she was eating.[71] The woman was taller than Nephis that he needed to crane his neck to look at her in the eyes.[72] Interacting with Effie, he realized that, perhaps, the experienced huntress had been joking around with him not just out of pure mischief. Perhaps she was trying to lighten the mood to get them into the right mental state, thus making traversing the cursed city less perilous.[73] Effie was the one who taught him how to navigate the Dark City.[62] During the exploration, Sunny asked Effie if she ever thought of creating a clan. He considered her a very suitable candidate to give birth to heirs due to her Aspect and physique.[74]
Before he faced the Crimson Spire, Sunny tried to distinguish the figure of Effie in the chaotic formation of the Dreamer Army.[75]
Back in the real world, they met again during the memorial in the Academy. He was surprised by the contrast between Effie in Dream Realm and the Real world. Effie told him that's how she had always been in the real world which reminded him of their conversation in Dream Realm about how the real world was more of a hell than the Dream Realm.[76]
He is still in contact with Effie, receiving a few messages from her with photos of all the delicious food she was eating and several memetic jokes of questionable nature.[77]
Kai
“ Flaw? How is that a Flaw?! That's a damn superpower, you despicable bastard! ” ― About Kai's flaw,
Chapter 118 Mirror Image
Kai is one of his friends whom he met on Forgotten Shore. In the second nightmare, Sunny decided to be honest with him about his secrets.[54]
More Details
For a moment when Sunny saw Kai, he wished that the guy turned out to be an actual demon. That's because the damn guy, not only possessed the most charming voice he had ever heard but was also drop-dead gorgeous. He thought it was simply unfair. Even worse, he couldn't even hate the guy because Kai looked like a genuinely nice person. Sunny like Kai due to him being smart and cautious.[78] When Kai informed him of his flaw, he thought it was a superpower. Coincidentally, it was also a perfect counter to the better half of his tricks. If Kai had not informed him about this strange Flaw of his, he would have gotten himself into really big trouble pretty soon. Luckily, the beautiful young man happened to be a very honest guy.[79]
Before he faced the Crimson Spire, Sunny tried to distinguish the figure Kai in the chaotic formation of the Dreamer Army.[75] He saved Kai from the soul-damaging light of the artificial sun after he fell from the sky.[80]
Back in the real world, they met again during the memorial in the Academy. When Sunny saw Kai, he was in disbelief that the guy had become even more gorgeous, once again thinking it was an injustice. He reluctantly accepted the hug from Kai.[76] Later when they are talking about True Names, Sunny asks Kai about him being named like his band which leads Sunny to conclude that the Spell was also one of his fangirls.[81] In the end, he told Effie and Kai about getting rich by just scribbling a few words and his plans of being a Research Assistant in the Academy, to which both of them were in disbelief.[82]
He is still in contact with Kai, receiving messages from him describing his experiences in Bastion.[77]
When Sunny met Kai after four years, he teased him with his flaw and told him they are best friends.[83][84]
Jet
“ Master Jet! I was just… uh… appreciating your fashion sense. ” ― To Jet,
Chapter 363 Citizen Sunny
Jet was the first awakened Sunny met after he survived his First Nightmare. She was one of the two people he was grateful for when he arrived in the Dream Realm for the first time. She was one of the Ascended he knew and his only contact with the government.
Jet had been Sunny's mentor, comrade, and friend. For him, she was synonymous with competence and power and perseverance.[85]
More Details
Sunny was grateful for the tips he received from her that he swore to thank her once he came back from the Dream Realm.[86][87] Jet visited him after he became an awakened to do some procedure that he still has to go through. On the way, for some reason, Sunny suddenly felt annoyed that people were staring at her with a strange mix of regard and disdain. Maybe because Jet was someone he knew, or maybe because she used to be an outskirt rat just like him, but he found himself feeling protective.[88]
Jet was one of the two Ascended he knew and his only contact with the government. He considered their relationship worth maintaining. Added to the fact that Sunny quite liked her and owed her a lot, they were both from the outskirts and had a rather good rapport.[89] He trusted her to least tell her the things that can damage his shadow.[90]
His relationship with Master Jet experienced a gradual change during the Antarctica Campaign. They grew a bit closer and more familiar with each other. This camaraderie was forged by fighting side by side in numerous battles and was enhanced by the background they shared.[91]
She had always been there for Sunny, the first person to meet him after the First Nightmare[92], and the one to guide him to the Academy.[86][85] She had been there when he returned from the Forgotten Shore, and from the Kingdom of Hope.[85] She had even helped him purchase his home.[93][85]
In the past, being that close to Jet would have made Sunny's blood boil, but he didn't feel anything. Not only because Soul Reaper was cold and lifeless like a corpse, but also because his heart was cold and dead as well.[94]

Harus was Gunlaug's murderous shadow. What disturbed Sunny the most, however, was that looking at Harus was like looking at a dark mirror. Despite the fact that they were almost nothing alike, for some reason, he couldn't help but recognize traces of himself in the sadistic butcher.[96] He embodies everything that Sunny despises. The mere fact of the hunchback's existence offends him. So Sunny wants to kill him for a long time.[97]
“ Do you have any idea what I had to do, what I had to sacrifice, how many things I had to let go of to save myself from becoming someone's slave? And here you are... living as one of your own free will… bastard, what gives you the right? Who gave you the idea that you can breathe the same air as I do?! ” ― To Harus,

“ Let's see which one of us is better… let's see which one of us deserves it more… ” ― Sunny's thoughts about defeating Caster,
Chapter 338 Rest of the Mongrels
Caster is the legacy he met in the Awakened Academy. He's the one Sunny especially doesn't trust. He was too perfect that in Sunny's experience, only people with bad intentions were capable of appearing so flawless.
More Details
Initially, Sunny did not hate Caster. Although he reminded Sunny of the Hero, he believed that it was just because of his background as a Legacy.[98] He later realized his manipulative personality, the reason why he was always wary of him.[1] To Sunny, he seemed possessive of Nephis, when he did not look happy leaving her with him.[99] He noticed his displeasure whenever someone tried to get close to her.[100]
After they managed to survive the siege to the Crimson Spire, he had a confrontation with Caster. He was wary of Caster himself because there was a chance that he had long guessed his Flaw. For Sunny, the fight was not only about defeating Caster. It wasn't even about defending Neph. By defeating Caster, he was going to prove once and for all that he wasn't lesser than anyone. That he wasn't some inconsequential nobody to be discarded and forgotten, to be lost on the pages of history. That he mattered as much as those "real" humans did.[101]
Sunny's relationship with Sovereigns is defined by deep hatred and personal betrayal. He sees Anvil as a hypocrite who justified murder and war under false pretenses while hiding his own crimes. Sunny holds him responsible for countless deaths — of soldiers, civilians, and especially the suffering of Nephis and himself. During their confrontation, Sunny delivers justice through calculated violence, not just as retribution, but as a personal reckoning. Despite Anvil's immense power, Sunny outwits him, ultimately killing him without hesitation. In the end, he grants Anvil's shadow a place within him — a reluctant mercy, not of forgiveness, but of finality.[102]
“ I really hate hypocrites like you the most, Anvil… just admit it. Be honest for once. You killed him because you hated him. As simple as that. ” ― Sunny to Anvil,

Julius
“ I did. In fact, I have compiled a lengthy report about things I have seen, fought, and discovered there. Would you like to take a look? I can send it to you. ” ― To Julius about his Forgotten Shore report,
Chapter 371 Academic Achievement
Julius is his teacher in Wilderness Survival class back in the Awakened Academy. He was one of the two people he was grateful for when he arrived in the Dream Realm for the first time.
More Details
Due to his dedication to teaching him about surviving in the Dream Realm, Sunny swore to thank the old man once he came back from it.[87] He also planned to compile a report about the Forgotten Shore and give it to him.[106] Sunny was overwhelmed by a wave of nostalgia when he went to visit his Teacher Julius after becoming an Awakened.[107]
He couldn't help but smile while listening to the excitement in the old man's voice. Before visiting the old man, he was slightly worried that Teacher Julius would not even remember him. But, he had been wrong. He created a report about his first visit to Dream Realm thinking his teacher would like to read it. In the end, he was told that he can earn contribution points from his report which is enough to buy a house.[108]
In Chapter 2562, Sunny entrusted him with The Exploration Report on Everything, confident he would treat it with care.

Ling

Ling is the son of Effie born inside the Third Nightmare.[113][114] Initially, Sunny didn't appreciate the charm of the infant, describing it as ugly and boring.[114][115] Four years later, he was unable to resist the adorable brat and indulged him with treats like hot chocolate, waffles, or ice cream every time the kid visited his shop, making him the target of kid's affection.[116]
Mordret
Note: There is hidden information in this article. Click Show Spoilers to reveal. Mordret is the voice that Sunny can hear due to having his blood smeared on the mirror shard left behind by the Mirror Beast in Reckoning Island.[117][118] He still didn't trust the lost prince, even though Mordret had been nothing but helpful. In fact, he didn't know if he would have even been alive when he fell into the tear without his guidance.[119] Initially to Sunny, he is very mysterious.[120] During the events in the Night Temple, Sunny was revealed to be deceived by him.[121]
Mordret's pleasant voice reminded Sunny of the time they had shared in the Sky Below, and the closeness that had existed between them. At that time, he had considered the mysterious prince if not a friend, then at least an ally. He had been fond of the owner of the disembodied voice enough to worry when it disappeared.[122]
But all of that had been a lie created to lure Sunny into bringing the mirror shard into the Night Temple and setting him free. Sunny had met many powerful men and terrifying abominations but Mordret was the only one whom he was truly scared of. It was not because of the Divine Aspect or the lineage of War, but because of how insidiously cunning and inexplicable he was.[122]
Naeve
Noctis
Noctis is Sunny's self-proclaimed friend when they first met.[126] Sunny likes Noctis despite being dishonest, lying, conniving, crazy, and a dastardly cheat.[54]
Noctis is a liar and a cheat, he had lied to Sunny on many occasions sometimes for a specific purpose, and sometimes simply for the fun of it. Sunny did not doubt the sincerity of the sorcerer's desire to free Hope.[127]
Obel
Obel is the VIP that Sunny is supposed to escort to safety in Antarctica.[128] Sunny sometimes seeks his counsel on things he did not know.[129][130][131][132]
“ I think that you are giving yourself too little credit, young man.
Ah, don't mind me. It's just an old man's rumblings... maybe you'll understand when you're my age. Until then, please keep caring for these poor people, stupid as it might seem. There's this one truth that I've learned after long decades, you see... humanity would have never survived without a bit of stupidity...” ― Obel to Sunny,
Chapter 964 Proof of Competence
Sunny saw Professor Obel as somewhat of a personification of all the mundane humans the First Army was supposed to save.[133]
Rivalen
Roan
Tyris
After the events in the Night Temple, she protected Sunny and Cassie from Valor but got into a difficult situation with them.[10]
After Sunny's conversation with Tyris in Antarctica, left him feeling thoughtful and unsure of his agreement with her views, he found himself respecting the Transcendent. He liked Master Roan too, the three of them shared a history.[138]
Others
Daemons
Weaver
The mysterious Weaver whose forbidden lineage he had inherited was, in fact, associated with fate. Just like himself.[139]
More Details
Inside the Tomb of Ariel, Sunny dreamt of being Weaver.[140][141] As Weaver's blood was flowing through Sunny's veins and he too had an innate affinity to fate, it was not surprising that he had dreamt of being the Weaver and assumed the daemon's role in his own nightmare after witnessing the mural in the grand hall of the Temple of the Nightmare Spell. Due to being Fated, Sunny had stumbled on the egg of the loathsome Thieving Bird and received the forbidden lineage of the sinister daemon. Sunny had never thought of Weaver in such terms before, mainly because he had benefited greatly from their tenuous connection and admired the mysterious daemon for its intelligence and fearsome nature. However, as Sunny learned about the end of the Dream Realm and the Nightmare Spell, the more ominous Weaver seemed, as he wielded knowledge of fate itself.[142]
