Heart of Darkness was a mysterious creature composed of insect-like drones wielding powers connected to elemental darkness and possibly spatial distortion.[2] It was a vast and powerful being that had dwelled in the old tunnels and was speculated to be terror trying to evolve into a titan.[3]
Appearance
A giant orb of jet-black stone floated in the center of the natural cave, burning darkly with the crimson reflections of the flare's fire. The darkness flowed through it or perhaps was born of it. The hum came from the sphere, like the ruffle of waves trapped within it.[4][5]
The flood of darkness that had escaped from the cracked orb was actually myriads of tiny beetle-like creatures that were swarming like a river.[5] These ghastly insects are not technically alive.[3]
Background
The Heart of Darkness had been present in the Antarctic Center since before Chain of Nightmares and is believed to have been disturbed by Irregulars during its evolution to titan.[3][2] Its rank and class remain unknown.[2]
History
At some point in time, these beetles, who liked to tunnel through mountains, devoured the Goliath from within.[6]
After Bloodwave killed the thing that was in charge, the river of darkness had fallen apart and became aimless and sluggish. The swarm ceased its purposeful advance and flowed outward.[1]
Trivia
- Marble Saint triggered her second evolution after she burst open the orb using her shattered blade.[5]
