“ ["You are very strange!" said Noctis. Why was his new friend so deathly afraid of chests? Why was he so timid and pale? "Don't be afraid, these are just my treasure chests. They won't bite. Well... except for this one. This one will eat you alive."] ” ― Rune description of Covetous Coffer,
Chapter 428 Covetous Coffer
Mordant Mimic was the vile creature in a form of a treasure chest that had almost eaten Sunny alive once.[1][3]
Description
The chest was long and adamantine, its dark wood reinforced by strips of dull metal. It was large enough to fit an adult man. This creature has massive jagged teeth.[1] It also has long and emaciated limbs, almost three meters tall which can manage to hide its bony flesh inside the fake chest. The chest was large enough to swallow a human whole.[4] The treasure chest was wide and long, and its lid was flat.[5]
Ability
The mimic was capable of healing.[1]
Background
In the second nightmare, the chest had only three soul cores, none showing any sign of Corruption. They were bright and pristine, just like that of any other creature following the path of Ascension. However, they were also too dim to be of the Ascended Rank. The Mimic was neither Fallen nor a Devil yet. It was simply an Awakened Demon masquerading as a treasure chest.[3]
In front of Noctis, the creature was behaving itself, probably out of fear of its master.[3]
