Note: Sunny's progression path was different from all of humanity. It was harder, larger but also so much more promising.[1]

Sunny receives fewer Shadow Fragments from Nightmare Creatures and Humans alike as his Soul Rank ascends.[2] Soul shards are useless for Sunny as needed shadow fragments, which could only be received by slaying enemies of equal or higher Rank.[3]

He is unique among the Awakened due to his status as a shadow. He absorbed shadow fragments directly from those who died by his blade, unlike most of his peers. This situation had drawbacks, as killing creatures weaker than him was useless. He also did not receive a portion of the soul fragments his enemy had accumulated when killing other Awakened. The difference in Ranks also played a role. The portion of the murdered Awakened's soul fragments could be zero if inexperienced or surpass a hundred if fully saturated.[4]

Class: Monster

After the acquisition of the thousandth fragment, a second shadow core was created. Thus, having a second shadow. He now has a class, Monster. Sunny can now augment two memories at the same time.[1]

After his Awakening, both of his cores are now of the Awakened rank. The amount of essence consumed during the Awakening directly corresponded to the starting capacity of the core.[16] Now, that he's Awakened he won't receive shadow fragments from killing Dormant creatures. Slaying an Awakened Beast, he will now get one fragment instead of two and receive two by slaying a Fallen Beast instead of four. While Dormant creatures did not bring him any shadow fragments, they did bring him Memories.[2]

Sunny now understood the difference between moving up a class and rising to a new Rank.[24]

Ascending to a new Rank, elevated the quality of his shadow cores and essence, gifted him with new abilities, and allowed for deeper access to his Aspect. Reaching a new Class, primarily affected the quantity of his shadow essence, and as such, the increase in power was much more gradual.[24]

The main benefit of having several cores was there was no limit to his capacity to store essence and reinforce his body. Manifesting a third shadow core, he now had the ability to augment three things at the same time.[24]

  • In Chapter 3110, Sunny beheld an imprisoned Unholy Nightmare Creature on the verge of breaking free, but the creature's gaze corrupted one of his Shadow Cores before it impaled and destroyed his incarnation.
    • He had lost a Shadow Core becoming a Terror again. One of his seven shadows, crazy shadow, had also been destroyed.[30]
    • The destruction of one of Sunny's Shadow Cores reduced him from a Titan to a Terror and left Slayer without a Shadow Core to inhabit, preventing her from being dismissed or healed by the dark flames of his soul.[31]
  • Sunny regained his seventh Shadow Core and returned to the Titan Class by using Shadow Weave to sacrifice thousands of shades within his Soul Sea, converting them into Shadow Fragments to rebuild the destroyed core.[31]
