Abilities
Slaying Blade is an ability of the Soul Serpent when it assumes its Soul Weapon form, embodying the Death aspect of Shadow God. In this state, it ignores the will of greater beings, meaning that the usual resistance of powerful creatures—rooted in their instinct to survive—can be bypassed. Normally, killing such beings requires overpowering their will to exist, since even the sharpest blade cannot harm them without sufficient killing intent. However, with Slaying Blade active, Soul Serpent becomes unexplainably deadly, capable of slaying both mundane and highly ranked adversaries, though Sunny notes he does not fully understand the mechanism.[1]
Trivia
- In Chapter 2856, Slaying Blade is described as the "blade of Death", a weapon that Eurys of the Nine used to kill the Dragon, the God Emperor of the War Empire. While the precise method of its use remains mysterious, Azarax emphasized that Eurys' ability to wield his Will, combined with the power of the Slaying Blade, allowed him to achieve godslaying—a feat otherwise considered impossible.
- The blade of Death was the weapon that Eurys used to kill the avatar of the Goddess of Life, the Dragon. Eurys did not simply kill the god with a sudden act; the fatal strike was the culmination of decades of preparation. He had deliberately allowed himself to become enslaved, ingratiated himself with successive masters, and eventually became a palace slave and personal attendant in the Great Temple of War, positioning himself close to the Emperor. The moment he used the blade of Death was therefore the result of a lifetime of servitude, suffering, meticulous planning, and unwavering malice that added deadly weight to Eurys' blade.[2]
- Eurys was able to kill the avatar of War God through the opposition between fundamental forces. As Azarax stated, for every force there exists a power that is antithetical to it. In this case, the opposition between Life and Death allowed the deed to occur, with the collision of these forces likened to matter and antimatter resulting in annihilation. The blade of Death, associated with the power of death and with Shadow God, embodied that opposing force, enabling Eurys, a Transcendent, to strike down a Divine being when the opportunity finally came.[2]
