Shadow Slayer is Sunny's sixth Shadow which he received from killing the shadow of one of the Nine[7] (Mysterious Archer).[8]

Appearance

Orphaned Shadow

Dependent Shadow

The Slayer is described as a beautiful woman with a slender and graceful figure, exuding extreme agility and strength. Her poise is unmistakably that of a warrior, with a hint of pride in the set of her bare shoulders. Her luscious ebony hair is gathered into a long braid, and her lean muscles appear sculpted by an obsessed artist. However, her entire body is entirely black, as if cast from ink, with not a hint of color visible, reinforcing her nature as a shadow.[4]

She wears very light armor, consisting of a pteruges skirt, a chest guard, a single bracer, and greaves protecting her shins—armor clearly designed for an archer rather than a melee combatant. The light ensemble enhances her graceful appearance, making her resemble a dancer more than a fighter.[4]

Her face is hidden behind a veil, but her sharp, elegant features are still vaguely discernible—high cheekbones, a sharp nose, and most strikingly, lifeless black eyes that stare at him with no emotion.[4]

Personality

The Slayer is a powerful and rebellious Shadow, distinct from Sunny's other Shadows due to her intense resistance to control. Unlike his other loyal Shadows, she does not obey his commands unquestioningly. Instead, she fights against his influence, displaying an unnerving willpower that allows her to resist direct orders, even though doing so weakens her. Described as having an infinitely cold killing intent, she does not engage in conversation and instead responds to Sunny with murderous glances.[9]

Slayer was fiercely independent, dangerously lethal, and refused to submit, making her too valuable to destroy yet too dangerous to release. For over a year, Sunny kept her imprisoned beneath the Dark City's ruined cathedral, summoning her weekly for brutal duels in the Nameless Temple. Though these fights began as attempts at communication, Slayer only responded with violence, forcing Sunny to grow stronger through constant battle. Over time, Slayer developed a grudging respect and proposed a deal: if Sunny defeated her, she would obey him for a week in exchange for his blood, to which she had developed an unsettling attachment. Despite the pain, Sunny accepted, valuing the hard-won control over her.[10]

Slayer was a Shadow of fierce power and cold confidence, radiating a sharp and merciless killing intent that was similar to Sunny's own, yet fundamentally different in its purity and resolve. Her emotions were painted in hues of grey by a sinister determination, driven by a black heart filled with unblemished malice and an unwavering desire to kill. Unlike Sunny's other Shadows, whose memories occasionally surfaced in fragmented echoes, Slayer seemed to possess no past — only a haunting impression of vast emptiness, impenetrable darkness, and an instinctual need to hunt. It was as though she had existed solely in the Shadow Realm, shaped entirely by its harshness. Physically, she was graceful and nimble, her strength subtle yet lethal, like a dancer with the savagery of a prowling predator. She differed from the indomitable Saint and the mighty Fiend in that her power was lithe, efficient, and deadly.[11]

Unnamed

In Chapter 2980, Slayer did not get to be named by the Nightmare Spell. She did not even get to be called -unknown-, as if the Spell denied her the right to possess a name — any name, not only the name of Orphne of the Nine. This was described as a little peculiar, but Orphne had killed Weaver. She had killed Weaver twice. Because of this, in a sense, the Spell had been born from her blade. Despite that connection, it didn't really make sense that the Spell refused to acknowledge her.

Abilities

Slayer was the shadow of Orphne of the Nine, a woman remembered as one of the deadliest beings in history. Orphne was one of only two known figures to ever kill a daemon — the other being Weaver — and she had slain Weaver twice. Despite such a fearsome legacy, her Aspect was not one of combat or death and killing as Sunny had expected, but one focused on utility, with its core meant to promote understanding and harmony. Slayer's powers were not identical to Orphne's, however, because she was no longer a human but a Shadow Creature, shaped from Orphne's shadow that had refused annihilation in the Shadow Realm.[12]

After Orphne descended alive into that realm and died alongside the Demon of Fate, her shadow survived for thousands of years, hunting other shadows until it became a feral Shadow Creature. Sunny eventually killed it and turned it into one of his Shadows, making Slayer both a Shadow Creature and part of him, though in an incomplete form.[12]

As a Shadow Creature, Slayer did not wield a true Aspect or Flaw but retained powers derived from Orphne's Aspect.[12]

  • First Ability: allowed her to understand and communicate with all manner of beasts and living creatures, including comprehension of human languages.[12]
  • Second Ability: greatly enhanced all her senses, giving her eerie accuracy when shooting a bow over vast distances, great at laying ambushes, and almost impossible to catch unaware.[12]
  • Third Ability: combat-related Ability that let her imbue attacks with soul essence, making them more potent — a mystical power somewhat reminiscent of Samara's, though with a different effect.[12]
  • Fourth Ability: corresponding to Orphne's Transcendent one, allowed her to take the shape of beasts she had encountered through sight, sound, smell, touch, or by tasting their flesh and blood. She was a shapeshifter, capable of assuming various forms, such as a hawk or a fearsome black leopard strong enough to kill one of the Sacred Spirits of Heart God's forest. The runes described "beasts" vaguely as "bestial things", which left questions about the full scope of her transformations—whether she could take the forms of Nightmare Creatures, mythical beasts like dragons, or even bestial forms of human Saints.[13]
  • Fifth Ability: tied to the very essence of Supremacy itself, the Will. This Ability was an extension of her other powers and allowed her to clearly sense and understand the Will of other beings, as well as communicate her own more effectively. For instance, she could imbue her weapons directly with her Will, making them deadlier.[13]

Attribute

Reveal

Beyond her Abilities, Slayer's Attributes defined her strength. While Orphne had once possessed [Fated], Slayer instead carried the Attribute [Pure Soul]. This Attribute explained the unique nature of her soul, her flawless battle technique, and her survival in the Shadow Realm for thousands of years. Orphne's soul had been pure and unyielding, shining with light that could not be tainted. That purity fueled her determination, sincerity, and resolve, allowing Slayer to persist in her quest to slay the Demon of Fate, and later to endure as a shadow without succumbing to the Shadow Realm. Practically, this Attribute made her soul essence pristine and thus more potent, empowering her attacks and strengthening her Will.[13]

Battle Ability

She wears minimal armor, she lacks the need for weapons, as her entire body is a weapon, capable of easily tearing Sunny apart.[4]

Slayer's swordsmanship is marked by unwavering precision and brutal efficiency. She moves with complete sincerity and purpose, with no hesitation or wasted motion, translating her intent directly into action. Her hearing is incredibly sharp—capable of detecting even a needle dropping kilometers away—allowing her to remain hyper-aware in the chaos of battle.[14]

Will

Slayer wields the Will with exceptional finesse. Because her mind and intent are completely aligned, there is no friction between thought and action. This grants her remarkable efficiency and control, enabling her to achieve more with less effort.[14]

Unlike most beings, Slayer possesses single-minded certainty and emotional purity in combat. This state of certainty enhances her effectiveness and makes her a perfect killing instrument.[14]

Core

The core of the Slayer is unique compared to Sunny's other Shadows. While most of his Shadows possess dark embers instead of Shadow Cores, the Slayer is different. She originally had a radiant Soul Core despite being a shadow, making her distinct from the others. However, after becoming one of Sunny's Shadows, her radiant soul core was gone, replaced instead by a radiant shard. This shard exists in a peculiar state—not quite Transcendent, but also not quite Supreme, as if it is lacking something.[4]

Background

Reveal

The archer was no ordinary shadow—she was a relentless hunter who had roamed the Shadow Realm for thousands of years, defying the natural order by refusing to be annihilated like other shadows. Instead of succumbing to death, she had survived by slaying others of her kind, driven by an unyielding and feral determination. Though her original self-had once been valiant and righteous, the shadow that remained was cold, ruthless, and wicked, shaped by centuries of unending battle. According to Eurys, she was not just any shadow, but one of the Nine.[15]

Trivia

  • It is explicitly stated that the shadow is not one of the Nine, but rather a shadow of an original member. Unlike its original form, the shadow is described as feral and mindless, acting on base instincts without rational thought or higher purpose. The shadow's existence is viewed as an insult to the memory of the original being.[16]
  • This shadow was able to hide the scent of it's soul from predators of Shadow Realm.[17]
  • Slayer was a unique being — a Shadow with silver light of pure soul essence. She existed between two Ranks: beyond Transcendent but not quite Supreme (Debut). Although she fought under Sunny's banner, she felt no loyalty toward him, acting independently.[5]
  • In Chapter 2316, it was shown that Slayer can write (using rune).
  • Slayer's Transformation Ability allowed her to assume the forms of all beasts she had killed.[18]
    • In Chapter 2848, Slayer took the form of an enormous black tiger.
    • In Chapter 2910, Slayer took the form of a Dragon, a great obsidian dragon that can breath out a torrent of lightless black flame from her maw.
  • The destruction of one of Sunny's Shadow Cores in Chapter 3110, reduced him from a Titan to a Terror and left Slayer without a Shadow Core to inhabit, preventing her from being dismissed or healed by the dark flames of his soul.[19]
