― Chapter 277 Demon of Fate

Show/Hide spoilers

Weaver is one of the seven daemons, firstborn of the Forgotten God[4] and the Demon of Fate.[6] It seems that both Sunny and him are connected with fate.[3]

Appearance

Weaver was described by Noctis as a harrowing, evil, and insidious monster. The vile Demon also known as Weaver, holds domain over fate.[7] This daemon is mysterious and shrouded in countless layers of lies.[8]

In the Temple of the Nightmare Spell, Weaver was depicted in the mural as a tall figure with shape and body form hidden by a dark mantle. Only their face or rather mask of a fearsome demon with ferocious fangs and a crown of three twisting horns was seen.[9]

No one knows what the Demon of Fate looks like, but they were often depicted as a spider. Due to that, spiders were considered sacred to the followers of Weaver. It was forbidden to harm the spiders or its web.[9]

In Sunny's dream inside the Tomb of Ariel, Weaver is tall and nebulous, had eight nimble arms, one porcelain-crafted, and a dark mantle with a black polished wood mask concealing his features.[10]

In a vision inside the Death Game, Weaver appeared as a nebulous figure shrouded by a tattered mantle and wearing a fearsome mask, with a voice that was like a thousand hopeless prayers behind the mask.[11]

Mask

A black lacquered wood mask with vicious fangs and twisting horns. Its features were simultaneously fearsome and somber, bestial and regal, as though existing at the border of all things. Most of all, the striking mask radiated a sense of mystery.[12]

Domain

[Weaver believed that knowledge was the origin of power and so always hid behind numerous lies, wearing them as a mantle. No one knew Weaver's thoughts, Weaver's face, and Weaver's heart. Even the gods could not see what hid behind the mask.]

Chapter 278 Weaver's Mask

Weaver was a master of lies, so anything that is known about the Demon of Fate should be taken with a grain of salt. Weaver was the firstborn of the Unknown and their domain is fate. Just like fate, Weaver was fickle, inevitable, and terrifying. Despite not possessing dreadful battle power, unlike some other daemons, the Demon of Fate was feared the most.[13][14]

Sorcery

Main articles: Spellweave and Weaving

The Demon of Fate's sorcery was not something gods, let alone mortals, could easily learn. Only few people were proficient in it.[15]

Personality

Weaver is a nebulous and elusive creature, not only surrounded in mystery, but also obsessed with lies. Weaver was despised by all.[16] Weaver had no desire to be worshiped as it was futile as fate would remain uncaring and inevitable, regardless of one's virtuous efforts.[9]

Whereabouts

Etymology

Weaver is known as the Demon of Fate and is symbolized by a spider. The spider silk found in the nest resting on the branches of the Soul Devouring Tree is likely related. However, the spider symbol was not originally chosen by Weaver; rather, people began to associate spiders with the Demon of Fate because spiders are masters of weaving. It is even speculated that spiders themselves may consider themselves servants of Weaver. The name "Weaver" is likely not the true name of the daemon but instead a descriptor of its function—someone simply called them Weaver, and the name stuck. Similar to other daemons like Nether and Hope, whose names are descriptive titles rather than true names, Weaver's true identity remains unknown.[17]

Trivia

  • A mere mention of the Forgotten God was forbidden, which was probably why Weaver's lineage was described as forbidden.[18]
  • Sunny inherited a forbidden lineage, which was secretly created by the Demon of Fate, and the blood of Weaver suggests he may have inherited the Forgotten God.[19]
  • According to Weaver, there is a price that has to be paid for slaying a daemon.[20]
  • Orphne killed Weaver twice, the first time Weaver died via her poisoned arrow[20] and second stabbed with a bone dagger, which severed his shadow and fell at the same time as Orphne[21]
    • Orphne began to lose her identity after that first killing, likely cursed for taking a daemon's life. Sunny suspects Weaver allowed or orchestrated their own death the second time.[22] (Information elaborated on Weaver's History)
  • In Chapter 2589, Sunny mentioned that when the Vile Thieving Bird stole one of Weaver's eyes, they wove the enchantment [Where is my eye?] into their mask to replace it.
