Vile Thieving Bird was a creature of dreadful power that managed to steal a daemon's eye and became mad by one glimpse at what was hidden in Weaver's pupil.[7][8]
Description
[The loathsome Thieving Bird was hated both by the gods and -unknown-. However, it only cared about shiny things. Enamored by Weaver's beautiful eyes, it stole one of them on a dark, starless night. Impatient, the vile creature looked at its bounty while still in flight. However, when it saw the reflection of -unknown- forever frozen in the depths of Weaver's pupil, it went mad and screamed, dropping the eye on the mortal realm below. All that was left in its greedy beak was one drop of pure, golden ichor.]
— Rune description of Weaver's Drop of Ichor, Chapter 81 Weaver's Eye |
According to the runes of Drop of Ichor, the Thieving Bird, which was hated both by the gods and -unknown-, stole one of Weaver's beautiful eyes, after being enamored by it. Midflight, it saw the reflection of -unknown- forever frozen in the depths of Weaver's pupil. It went mad and screamed, dropping the eye on the mortal realm below. All that was left in its greedy beak was one drop of pure, golden ichor.[7]
A giant creature that had a hunched back, a disheveled mantle of messy black feathers, a terrifying beak, and mighty wings. Its vile soul was filled with more Corruption than Sunny had ever seen.[5]
In Chapter 2950, it was described as having a vast, harrowing expanse of black feathers obscuring the sky. It possessed a single bloodshot, demented eye that peered into the very essence of one's being. Its sharp talons can pierced through one's chest and reached one's soul, shattering soul cores as if they were soap bubbles.
Nature
Note: There is hidden information in this article. Click Show/Hide Spoilers to reveal.
The Vile Thieving Bird is described as a ghastly and truly terrible creature, a Cursed Terror that is unfathomably powerful and capable of stealing the sun out of the sky. Despite its immense power, it is portrayed as "complete", meaning it does not aspire to become more, which is noted as unusual for a Terror. It is also depicted as uniquely vile and singular in nature, to the point that its mentality might have been stolen from a Titan, making it believe it already is one. Unlike its spawn, the Thieving Bird is not actively seeking growth or change, and it is not constantly hunting specific individuals. It has made its nest in the heart of the Estuary, a place deep within the Tomb of Ariel, beyond numerous perilous layers including the lake, the maze of time, and the guardian that judges souls.[9]
Ability
The Vile Thieving Bird is capable of far more insidious powers, such as stealing an opponent's Aspect, resolve, reason, or even abstract abilities like memory, perception, or combat skill, and then using them in their stead. However, it does not employ these abilities in the battle in Chapter 2960, not due to resistance from its opponent, but because of its peculiar nature—it liked shiny things, and found nothing appealing in someone described as dark, lightless, and dreary, leaving it uninterested in taking anything from them.[10]
Battle Ability
The Vile Thieving Bird descended upon its enemies like an avalanche of black feathers and grotesque eyes, moving so fast that its movements were barely perceptible. Its attacks formed a relentless onslaught, striking like hail with its beak, talons, wings, and even the devastating gusts of wind it generated, accompanied by mind-shattering shrieks. Its beak could shoot forward with the speed of a lightning bolt, aiming to pierce defenses and reach hidden targets, while its talons were powerful enough to tear open the abdomen of the Shadow Colossus Shell. Even weakened by Neph's command and multiple hexes, it remained overwhelmingly dangerous forcing its opponent into constant retreat.[11]
Despite its power, the Thieving Bird was not invulnerable. In Chapter 2959, it showed signs of damage, with a shallow burn on one wing, a small cut on the other, and later patches of scorched feathers and ugly burns on its hide, proving that it could bleed and be harmed. It reacted visibly to pain, beating its wings and crying out, and could even be dazed momentarily by heavy blows. Its attention could shift under pressure, especially when subjected to continuous attacks, and its demented eyes could narrow and overflow with murderous intent, or blaze with a new kind of madness when provoked. However, it paid no attention to its accumulating wounds, continuing its furious assault regardless of the damage it sustained.[11]
Trivia
- Vile Thieving Bird's Spawn was slain by Sunny in Forgotten Shore.[12]
- The Thieving Bird had even been able to steal from the Demon of Fate, so bypassing a guardian left behind by Ariel would be possible.[13]
- It was enamored with Weaver's beautiful eyes and went mad after witnessing the Void's reflection in Weaver's pupil. Sunny's fate was connected to the enigmatic daemon and would have taken his inherited lineage given a chance. The Nightmare ending at the right moment was questioned as either simple luck or the last gift from Fated.[13]
- In Chapter 1580, if Sunny had entered the Soul Sea at that moment, he would have seen the shapeless form of the Vile Thieving Bird's Spawn being seized by crooked talons.
- It appeared in Chapter 2950 responding to its chick's distressed call.
- It demonstrated immense vitality and Will, enduring sustained damage while continuing to fight multiple powerful opponents at once.[10]
