This summarizes the negotiation between the three new sovereigns: Nephis, Sunny and Mordret.

Summary

In the desolate heart of the Eastern Quadrant, beneath the blistering noon sun, three colossal Dream Gates stood in a vast triangular formation: one of shadow, one of light, and one of mirrors. From each Gate emerged a Supreme: Sunny, the Lord of Shadows, leading his Shadow Legion; Nephis, Changing Star, radiant ruler of the Human Domain; and Mordret, the King of Nothing, attended by millions of vessels. Though their armies gathered in tense silence, the three demigods met at the center not to fight — for such a clash would shatter the continent — but to negotiate, as Nephis urged coexistence while Sunny condemned Mordret's atrocities, and Mordret deflected with his unnerving charm.[1]

Sunny was deeply unsettled by Mordret's new status as a Sovereign and the inhuman vastness of his countless vessels, yet despite his mistrust and the certainty of eventual betrayal, he recognized that destroying Mordret would cost too much; with Asterion looming as the greater threat, Sunny and Nephis had little choice but to negotiate with the "reasonable monster", who seemed intent on using them as shields until he could strike against the Dreamspawn himself.[2]

Mordret first mocked Sunny and Nephis with eerie theatrics, then shifted to negotiation. Nephis pointed out that his vessels would soon be banished from the waking world and would need territory in the Dream Realm to survive. Mordret feigned indifference, suggesting he didn’t need land because he could house them within his own Mirror Realm, but Nephis countered that he still lacked the resources to sustain and grow them without a territory. Mordret admitted he wanted land, first demanding the Stormsea — a strategically perfect base for waging war on humanity — but Nephis rejected him. After considering his true aim against Asterion and the Human Domain, he finally set his sights on the Hollow Mountains instead.[3]

Mordret claimed the Hollow Mountains, whose mist-shrouded peaks made them almost unassailable while offering perfect ground for raids north toward the Forgotten Shore or south into human lands. His affinity with Nothing made the mist survivable, giving him a domain as fitting as Shadow Realm meant to Sunny, though the dark Underworld beneath would nullify his powers. Since neither Sunny nor Nephis had use for the region and no colonies existed there, they conceded. For all his monstrosity, Mordret remained a rational actor whose self-interest aligned with theirs against the looming collapse of Earth, even if bargaining with him was maddening. As his endless vessels vanished into the Mirror Realm, Mordret—fatigued from both the War Realm's pressure and his recent battle—pressed to continue negotiations in Bastion, where Kai and experts would formalize trade: food and materials for his settlement in exchange for intelligence on Asterion. With a bow, he departed, leaving Sunny to laugh at the irony that the desolate wasteland, now abandoned by both Mordret and the Shadow Legion, had become the safest place in either world.[4]

Trivia

  • According to Mordret, he did not kill all members of the House of Night, claiming he merely removed the elders or rather, replaced them. While acknowledging some collateral damage, he asserts that most of the Ascended and Awakened members, the actual Nightwalkers survived. He attributed the downfall of the House of Night's leadership to their refusal to submit to the Song Domain and become honored vassals of the Queen, describing their choice as pride and arrogance and their failure as the gravest sin.[5]
    • Mordret added that he intended to reintegrate the survivors after the war, turning the faction into the House of Nothing with minimal disruption to the waking world's infrastructure, emphasizing that even the Saints' power would have been preserved under his control.[5]
