Dreamer Runes

Note: These runes were updated after First Nightmare.

Name: Nephis.

True Name: Changing Star.

Her True Name can be described as "a star that caused change". The rune used for the word "change" meant a cataclysmic change that brought ruin and disaster; sometimes bad and sometimes good, but always cruel and calamitous, wreathed in misfortune. In a sense, she was both "Star of Change" and "Star of Ruin". She was destined to bring both salvation and damnation to those touched by her light.[1]

Rank: Dreamer.[1]
Class: Demon → Devil → Tyrant.
Soul Cores: [3/7][1] → [4/7][2] → [5/7].[3]
Soul Fragments: (Refer to Nephis' Progression).

Memories: (Refer to Nephis' Memories).
Echoes: (Refer to Nephis' Echoes).
Attributes: (Refer to Nephis' Attributes).

Aspect: [Light Bringer].
Aspect Rank: Divine.
Aspect Description: [You are a creature of light that was banished and doomed to exist in the darkness. You bring radiance and warmth to wherever you go, but with it comes indescribable longing.][1]

Her attributes give her an affinity to light and fire, as well as a strong affiliation to divinity. Her powers seem to be able to either destroy, augment Memories or heal. Her Aspect Ability is so versatile that Sunny is almost sure that it was of Divine Rank.[4][5][6]

The name of the Aspect, Light Bringer, could be translated in several ways. The first rune could mean both light and fire, and the second meant either to bring or to bear, depending on context. So, it could have been Fire Bearer as well.[1]

It turned out that she had already been a Dormant Monster, possessing two core during the fight and killing the Bright Lord, Gunlaug, pushed her towards her third core.[1]

Innate Ability: [Halfbreed].
Ability Descriptions: [You can directly absorb a portion of the soul essence of any Nightmare Creature destroyed by your flames, as well as of any human.][1]

It was much easier for her to gain soul fragments.[7] When she absorbs soul essence directly, the process leaves the remnants of the soul core empty.[8] She can absorb great number of soul shards when she uses her flames.[9][10]

Aspect Ability: [Soul Flame].
Ability Description: [Your soul burns with the purest of flames. That flame can both restore and destroy, and is both a blessing and a curse.][1]

Soul Flame is the flame produce by one's soul. Together with the lineage Attribute, [The Fire], granted Nephis unmatched affinity to flame and empowered her soul. As for the augmentation, a single mass of flame can be divided as one wished.[11] She was not immune to the destructive fury of the fire and was only capable of being locked in the cyclic agony of having her flesh burned and restored without dying.[9]

She can wrap her body in light to enhance her physical prowess and/or augment her Memory and/or summon the healing power of the white flame. During her fight with Gunlaug, she was capable to support two effects at the same time - one augmenting her sword, the other her body.[5]

Flaw: [Pristine Soul]
Flaw Description: [You must suffer to use your power.][1]

She experiences extreme pain, like being burned alive, every time she uses her Ability.[12]

Ascended Runes

Note: These runes were updated after Second Nightmare.

Name: Nephis.
True Name: Changing Star.
Rank: Ascended.[13]
Class: Tyrant → Terror → Tyrant → Titan.
Soul Cores: [5/7][3] → [6/7][10] → [5/7][14] → [7/7][15].
Soul Fragments: (Refer to Nephis' Progression).

Memories: (Refer to Nephis' Memories).
Echoes: (Refer to Nephis' Echoes).
Attributes: (Refer to Nephis' Attributes).

Aspect: [Light Bringer].
Aspect Rank: Divine.
Aspect Description: (Refer to Dreamer Runes)
Innate Ability: [Halfbreed].
Ability Descriptions: (Refer to Dreamer Runes)

Aspect Abilities: [Soul Flame], [Flame Manipulation], [Longing].

Aspect Ability: [Soul Flame].
Ability Description: (Refer to Dreamer Runes)

This ability evolved from her dormant ability to include soul augmentation when she ascended. It never evolved to be able to spread to other people. Her flames made a person's soul more active and resilient.[16]

Aspect Ability: [Flame Manipulation]
Ability Description: "You can bend all fire to your will."[17]

Nephis was able to control fire, turning it into her weapon. That fire did not have to be her own and she could produce flames (refer to Soul Flame) if there were none around at the cost of feeling terrible pain (refer to Pristine Soul).[17] She was all but immune to all kinds of fire except for her own.[18]

She can change the color of flames by mixing her own flame into it.[19]

According to Sunny's experiment with the Mirror of Truth, Neph's ability to control fire was easy but not very useful without her affinities and [Soul Flame].[20]

Aspect Ability: [Longing]
Ability Description: "Your soul is incorruptible."[17]

This was an incredibly special passive Ability which was incredibly rare for Ascended Abilities.[17] This Ascended Ability, "Longing," made her soul incorruptible. It was actually the most broken and unbelievably preposterous Ability because it made one immune to the Corruption that even the Demon of Fate was not immune and even powerless in front of it.[21]

Flaw: [Pristine Soul].
Flaw Description: (Refer to Dreamer Runes)

In Chapter 1431, when Sunny copied Neph's dormant ability using the Mirror of Truth, he mentioned that the pain of her Flaw was unbearable.

Dream Anchor: - → Tower of Longing[22][23][24]

She had become a Master without establishing a Gateway anchor in the Dream Realm.[25] Later, she joined Cassie and the rest in the Ivory Tower.[22]

Note: Nephis' Runes are not available anymore since Sunny does not have access to Nightmare Spell.

True Name: Changing Star.

Nephis' True Name, Changing Star, carried deep meaning. She was referred to as the Star of Ruin and the herald of ruinous change. This indicated that her role was to bring about profound transformation, but at a devastating cost.[26]

Her fate, tied to her True Name, was to dismantle the existing order—the fall of the Sovereigns and the destruction of the world as it was known—in order to forge a new future. This was reflected in her past actions, such as the destruction of Bright Castle, which she had orchestrated to lead survivors to salvation.[26]

Her name signified both destruction and rebirth: she would burn the old world down, allowing a new one to emerge from the ruins. In this way, Changing Star was not just about transformation but about the necessity of upheaval for progress. Nephis had been bound by fate, making her an instrument of inevitable change.[26]

Rank: Transcendent[27] → Supreme.[28]
Class: Titan → Beast → Titan.
Soul Cores: [7/7][15] → [1/7][29] → [7/7].[29]

Aspect: [Light Bringer].
Aspect Rank: Divine.
Aspect Description: [You are a creature of light that was banished and doomed to exist in the darkness. You bring radiance and warmth to wherever you go, but with it comes indescribable longing.][1]

Her source element and the foundation of her future Domain was longing. It was described in her Aspect, [Light Bringer]. The spirit essence Nephis could absorb was born from the souls of those living beings she inspired to yearn for something.[30]

Innate Ability: [Halfbreed].
Ability Descriptions: [You can directly absorb a portion of the soul essence of any Nightmare Creature destroyed by your flames, as well as of any human.][1]
Aspect Abilities: [Soul Flame][1], [Flame Manipulation][17], [Longing][17].

Flaw: [Pristine Soul].
Flaw Description: [You must suffer to use your power.][1]

Citadel: Tower of Longing

She had bound the Ivory Tower to her Soul Sea.[31]

Her tether is located in the former manor of the Immortal Flame clan.[32]

In Chapter 2864, Cassie became in charge of the citadel, along with it's Components when Nephis was absent. However, in Chapter 2870, Cassie surrendered the claim to the citadel during her fight with Nightwalker, making it ownerless.

Neph's Transformation Abilities had multiple steps, including a winged form, a brilliant spirit of light whose radiant body seemed to contain an ocean of furious flame, and a vast mass of unleashed fire that could seemingly assume any form or no form at all. There was more to her transformation than just enhancing one's might and granting flight.[33]

Partial Transformation

A radiant being that looked like a beautiful, pure spirit of immaculate light. Her graceful body had wide wings spread behind her like a blinding mantle. Her appearance was similar to the last time Sunny saw her, but different. She had grown even more beautiful after undergoing the rebirth of Transcendence. Her presence, which seemed to illuminate the world, was stronger and more tantalizing than before, with wings extended from her back. Her wings were too majestic and pure to be part of the mortal world.[33]

Fiery Form

Nephis can transform into a spirit of light, her graceful body seemed to be woven out of immaculate white radiance that contained an unfathomable ocean of fiery flame, a beautiful vessel for her titanic soul, resembling a brilliant star in human form.[34]

She was significantly more powerful in her radiant spirit form, with increased potency in her speed, might, and fire powers which were augmented seven times by the power of her Aspect. Mundane attacks could not hurt her and could turn most weapons to ash simply because this form was purely made of fire.[35]

However, her Flaw, [Pristine Soul], hurts the most because her soul's incandescent white void was so pure and searing that it threatened to consume and burn away herself, perhaps forever, which she feared. She rarely used the power of her Aspect in combat, relying mostly on her martial prowess, and used her Transformation Ability less frequently.[35]

Despite her fiery form, she was not invulnerable, but the damage dealt would heal at the cost of her essence. The form of the spirit of light was a manifestation of her Incandescent soul. To destroy it, one had to extinguish her soul completely, which was not impossible, especially when facing higher-ranking enemies.[35]

Other Details

After Transcendence, her Dormant Ability to heal improved and that she can now heal at a distance.[36]

Her longing ability also evolved after her Transcendence, fusing with her presence. Over time, Nephis noticed that people's souls grew more susceptible to inspiration and the flames of their desires burned brighter. This was the foundation of her future Domain, which she had already built without even knowing it.[30]

Her source element is longing, desire, yearning, passion, and inspiration. Inspiring others to feel longing strengthens her source element, building the foundation for her future domain, which has already been built. Her actions in the last four years, including tireless wandering, battles against Nightmare Creatures, wordless compliance, public appearances, and secret theater plays funded by Cassie, were all to establish the foundation of her future domain.[37]

Ability

The power of a Supreme is not personal. It is larger than themselves, it is a domain. That is why Nephis' own power can increase the power of the entire humanity manifold.[38]

Nephis had grown vastly more powerful after attaining Supremacy. Her Supreme Ability did not enhance Nephis herself directly but instead empowered the subjects of her Domain. Specifically, it allowed her to heal and strengthen them from a distance using her flames. Her domain encompassed most of humanity, excluding only mundane humans not connected to her and Awakened individuals from the Shadow Clan or those exiled to the penitentiary Citadel in Godgrave. The rest were either drawn to her by longing or linked through the Gateways controlled by her Transcendent vassals. Nephis could constantly feel the presence of those within her Domain, perceiving them as stars connected to her soul by strings of starlight, some faint and distant, others bright and warm. This connection was vast and overwhelming, sometimes blurring the line between her own identity and the collective enormity of her Domain. Despite the immense power and connection, Nephis relied on her True Name, emotional bonds, personal desires, and goal to maintain her individuality and humanity.[39]

Dream Gate

Description:A white line abruptly appeared, slicing through the fabric of reality as it descended from the sky into the churning waters below. This phenomenon quickly expanded, forming a towering, wide rift. For a brief moment, the rift was filled entirely with a blinding, incandescent radiance.[40]

Nephis' Dream Gate allowed passage in both directions. Nightmare Gates led from the Dream Realm to the waking world while Dream Gates led from waking world into the Dream Realm. However, being a Dreamspawn — a being existing on the edge between nightmare and reality, and therefore belonging to both worlds — because of this, her Dream Gate was special. She was the only one who could send the Night Garden to Earth.[41]

Also, due to the unique quality of Neph's Dream Gate, it served as a means of rapidly shifting troops across the waking world by entering and exiting the Dream Realm through repositioned gate entrances. As a result, Bastion became a key transit hub for soldiers. However, only Awakened individuals can use this method safely, as ordinary soldiers would be forced into the First Nightmare upon returning.[42]

Other Details

Nephis' ability to heal wounds and empower individuals grew after attaining supremacy and the flames became much more potent, capable of healing and empowering large groups, even entire armies. The healing process is rapid, with wounds disappearing quickly, and those affected by the flames experience a boost in strength and vitality. The range of her flames has expanded significantly, allowing her to simultaneously heal and empower hundreds of thousands of soldiers, even when she is not physically present.[43]

Her purifying flames capable of healing and restoring individuals to flawless health, described as the blessing of the Human Domain, representing the power of the Immortal Flame and the unquenchable Longing. Her healing ability required her attention and was limited by the finite supply of her soul essence, making it non‑absolute. Certain individuals, designated as a special few, received her focused attention, allowing them to benefit from her restorative powers repeatedly, even after sustaining severe injuries.[44]

In Chapter 2850 and 2926, Nephis had drawn the Chain Breaker into her Soul Sea, storing it there for safety.

Dreamspawn 353(Revealed) Active Attribute Description: "You are born of two worlds, belonging to both, but welcomed in neither. Your soul exists on the edge between nightmare and reality."

Explanation

Tied to her nature as a child of a Hollow mother. In a sense, she was connected to the Dream Realm — and the Nightmare Spell — from before she had even been born. Her core trait was duality.[1]
Nephilim 353(Revealed) Active Attribute Description: "There once were terrible creatures born of an unholy union between the divine and the profane. Nephilim were the most beautiful, and the most harrowing of them all."

Explanation

It was speculated that her duality was further expressed after Nephis had conquered her First Nightmare and received her Aspect, to which this Attribute [Nephilim], described a half-blood creature: half divine, half profane.[1]
Flame of Divinity 353(Revealed) Active Attribute Description: "Your soul is aflame with the light of divinity."
The Fire 353(Revealed) Active Attribute Description: "You have inherited the lineage of Sun God."

Trivia

Sunny noticed a slight difference between [Blood Weave] and [The Fire]. While the latter was described simply as "lineage", the former was described as a "forbidden lineage". The Blood Weave was also described as a "partial" lineage, while The Fire was not.[1] It was implied that she inherited this attribute from her mother. This attribute seemed to be the reason her soul essence is much more potent, fiery, and vibrant.[45]
Blessing 2060 Active

Explanation

Blessing, initially a shadowbound Memory crafted by Sunny for Nephis now an Attribute of hers, became integrated with her being while retaining traits of a Memory, allowing for augmentation and synergy with the Crown of Dawn.[46]

Blessing possessed seven enchantments (two core and four auxiliary enchantments):

Its core trait [Bound], functions the same as Sunny's Mantle which equates the weapon's Rank and Class to Nephis' soul.[46]

Another core enchantment, [Dream Blade], governs its dual forms: in its dormant state, the Blessing resides within Nephis' soul, providing increased resistance to soul attacks, as well as increased rate of both soul essence replenishment and spirit essence absorption, and allowed her to draw power from the dreams of those affected by her nascent Domain.[46]

In its awakened form, the Blessing manifests as a tangible sword, granting access to the remaining five enchantments while losing the passive benefits of the dormant form: [Bound] and four auxiliary enchantments [Flame Conduit], [Purifying Light], [Change] and [Ruin].[46]

The sword possesses a shape-shifting ability, transforming into a stream of liquid fire or incandescent metal that flows along Nephis' arm and forms a silver bracelet, ensuring it remains both portable and unobtrusive when not in use.[47]

Note: The names with strikethrough were given away or destroyed.

Aspect Legacy

Memory of Light

Aspect Legacy: [Memory of Light].
Aspect Legacy Description: [A beautiful tree grew from the ashes of doubt, bearing fruits of knowledge.][48]

After the battle in Twilight, Nephis unlocked her Aspect Legacy, which appeared to grant knowledge instead of Relics.[48] Her Aspect Legacy was a tree of knowledge that bore seven fruits. She had reaped the benefits of one of them and comprehended the Knowledge of Fire in Twilight.[31]

Knowledge of Fire: Mastered.[48]

Mastered after the battle with Soul Stealer.[48]

She made a breakthrough and conceived a new way of using her Aspect. She destroyed one of her soul cores to unleash a conflagration of soul flame.[48]

Nephis' soul essence is especially potent, but she also used sorcery of Names. Using the Name of Wind to fan flames across Twilight and absorb them. She then ignited her soul and whispered the Name of Fire, destroying all Soul Stealer vessels and the Defiled horde, allowing to reform the Terror Core and form a new one.[48]

Knowledge of Corruption: In progress.[31]

Facing the First Seeker in Verge, she had advanced considerably toward the Knowledge of Corruption.[31]

After she defeated the Madness of Kanakht in her head, she took a big step toward mastering the Knowledge of Corruption. (refer to Eternal City (Event))[49]

In the heart of Estuary, she had made advances in understanding this fourth branch.[50] (More info on Memory of Light page)

Knowledge of Destruction: Mastered.[31]

In the past four years (after Throne War), she had completely mastered the art and understanding of Destruction.(rephrased)[31]

Knowledge of ???: Unearned.
Knowledge of ???: Unearned.
Knowledge of ???: Unearned.

Knowledge of Passion: Mastered.[51]

In the last four years (after Throne War), she had not only fully mastered the Knowledge of Destruction but also started comprehending the Knowledge of Passion. It was that last branch of her Aspect Legacy that had helped her fathom the underlying nature of her Aspect better.[31]

The Knowledge of Passion is a branch of Nephis' Aspect Legacy, mastered after she successfully invoked the Name of Passion. Unlike other Names, this one came from within Nephis herself — her own longing, desire, and yearning. To invoke it, she had to be brutally honest with herself, confronting her truest feelings without pretense. The act of channeling Passion placed immense strain on her soul and willpower, far more than any previous Shaping.[51]

Once invoked, Nephis received a torrent of understanding — an underlying grasp of many matters, instinctual knowledge of subtle secrets, intricate techniques, and a collection of Names related to passion and desire. This knowledge felt like the distilled reward of a lifetime of practice and theory, even though she had not consciously lived those experiences.[51]

The invocation of Passion intensified Nephis' desire and Will, dramatically empowering her sorcery. Her Will, burning with uncompromising passion, became potent enough to overpower Abjuration's authority and restore reality to a single, unified world. This Knowledge became a cornerstone of her Aspect, enabling her to ultimately defeat the Cursed Demon.[51]The invocation of the Name of Passion had left deep aftereffects. Even after she stopped channeling it, Nephis remained filled with powerful emotions, which was unusual, as she was typically left drained of all feeling after pushing her Aspect to such extremes.[51]

The Name of Passion appeared to be intimately tied to her essence. Its lingering influence stirred intense desires within her, making her long for comfort, pleasure, and connection—particularly, she longed for Sunny with overwhelming intensity. Despite the emotional toll and the damage it caused, the Name of Passion had enabled her to defeat a unique and ancient Cursed Demon named Abjuration. As a halfbreed, Nephis was able to absorb the soul fragments of the slain creature, allowing her damaged cores to begin healing. Even after the battle ended, the remnants of the Name of Passion continued to affect her deeply, both physically and emotionally.[51]

Domain

Nascent Domain (Transcendent)

Reveal

Nephis' nascent Domain was a vast and growing force formed by the countless souls burning with longing, hope, and desperation. These souls, connected to her, shone like stars in the darkness, merging into a great celestial bonfire.[52]

At first, her nascent Domain simply existed as her source element, allowing her to sense and draw spirit essence from those burning with longing. However, as it grew, it began to possess mass—pulling at her, calling her, demanding from her that their hopes be answered. This pressure was so immense that it became painful, maddening—almost like the Call of Nightmare.[52]

Despite her immense willpower, mastery of sorcery, and battle prowess, Nephis struggled to galvanize her source element—to ignite the sea of yearning stars into a blazing pyre. Her Domain was already thriving and deeply connected to her, yet her will could not yet exert influence over it.[52]

Thus, her nascent Domain was the flames of longing—a vast and untapped power fueled by the desperate hope of those who followed her, waiting for her to ignite it into its full potential.[52]

Domain (Supreme)

Main articles: Human Domain and Longing Domain

Note: Nephis' Domain is initially called Human Domain but after Asterion appeared it was named Longing Domain for distinction as they are both targeting the Human Domain.

Reveal

Unlike the Sword Domain and the Song Domain who had stood on a foundation built by the Nightmare Spell — the Citadels. Her Domain had no boundary, existing in the hearts of those who were inspired by her. It also spanned both the waking world and the Dream Realm.[53]

Initially, it was believed that Domains suppressed the seeds of Corruption within Aspirants. However, Nephis and Sunny discovered that this effect was not due to a Sovereign's personal power. Instead, it was a function of the Citadels created by the Spell. As such, while Domains like the Sword and Song Domains—which were built upon Citadels—offered tangible protection against Corruption, Nephis' Domain could not offer the same protection unless individuals resided within the reach of her Citadels.[53]

Although her Domain inspired many, it could not shield all her followers from the First Nightmare. Only those who physically lived within the area of influence of her Citadels were spared from it. Nephis could release individuals from the protection of her Domain if they sincerely desired to challenge a Nightmare. This release was not forced but instead depended on the individuals' heartfelt intention to grow stronger.[53]

This is why the population of the Night Garden could cross over to Earth and be spared the lethal trial, but the infected youths of the waking world outside the Citadels influence had to awaken naturally or request a trial through the Dream Gate, provided they had the time and opportunity to do so.[53]

People often gathered in solemn, temple-like spaces to meditate for hours or even days, preparing themselves to be released from Nephis' Domain and challenge a Nightmare. This development, however, was not what Nephis intended. She preferred to inspire people to seek personal strength rather than depend on divine intervention.[53]
