“ I draw power from madness, and your mind... ah, what a delicacy... what a feast... ” ― Madness of Kanakht to Nephis,
Chapter 2695 A Castle Built on Fog
The Madness of Kanakht is a manifestation of Kanakht, representing the fragment or aspect associated with its insanity and corrupted mind.[1]
Description
It first appeared as a male figure wearing a tattered spacesuit, with desiccated flesh visible through the cracked visor of a round helmet. The entity initially manifests in the ruins of the Eternal City, walking calmly across the surface of the Palace Lake. Its humanlike form is deceptive, concealing a far greater and more alien presence beneath the façade. When revealing its true nature, the being loses its shape and becomes vast and unfathomable, suggesting its existence transcends physical form.[1]
It was an ancient abomination manifested as a vast, shifting cloud of smoke and black dust. Its form constantly changed, concealing numerous twisted shapes within its depths. It possessed no physical features such as claws, fangs, or hands—and likewise had no blood, heart, or head—rendering it unaffected by conventional forms of bodily destruction. The entity's shape and abilities were determined by the madness and obsessions of its opponents, allowing it to weaponize their weaknesses against them.[3]
Ability
The Madness of Kanakht demonstrates the ability to invade consciousness and manipulate perception, primarily through psychological and emotional influence. Its presence induces a profound sense of fear, even in individuals normally immune to such emotions.[1]
The entity engages its targets through mental projection, assuming familiar or unsettling forms to destabilize them. In its encounter with Nephis, it impersonates her late uncle, addressing her as "Little Nephis, my lovely girl" and claiming to be her uncle Aster. This manipulation is intended to provoke emotional distress and confusion.[1]
The being speaks of human emotions such as love, hatred, fear, courage and asserts that neither it nor Nephis are human, emphasizing its alien and inhuman consciousness.[1]
The black dust composing the Madness of Kanakht could solidify into delusions given form, which displayed immense physical power capable of shattering mountains and tearing apart titanic beings. Its primary threat, however, lay in its potent mental attacks. These assaults invaded the victim's mind with delirium, overwhelming pain, and destabilizing illusions. Even when annihilated physically—such as being burned to ash—the creature immediately reconstituted itself as smoke and dust, making it effectively unkillable through ordinary means.[3]
The entity claimed to draw strength directly from madness and described the minds of its victims as sources of sustenance. The delirium it inflicted served not only to debilitate opponents but also to use their own mental instability, obsessions, or emotional extremes to amplify its power. During its encounter with Nephis, it noted holes and missing elements in her mind, remarking that it was as if part of her heart had been replaced with fog. Despite being repeatedly destroyed by her flames, it continually reformed, attacking as a swarm of horrors and maintaining a presence marked by hideous laughter and sinister speech. The creature was briefly disrupted when Nephis invoked multiple overwhelming passions, causing the Madness of Kanakht to reel.[3]
History
During their encounter in the ruins of Eternal City, Nephis initially experiences intense fear and suspects a mental attack. Upon recognizing the illusion, she rejects the being's influence, igniting white flames that boil the lake water and consume the apparition in a blinding white inferno, commanding it to get the hell out of her head.[1]
