Shaping is the most ancient kind of sorcery.[1][2][3][4]
It is centered around the Sorcery of Names, a discipline where practitioners channel True Names and assemble them into Verses to change the world in accordance with their will. It is based on the idea that the world is formed and influenced by a one true language, in which every word is a True Name — the language of the gods.[5]
How It Works
Shapers reshape reality itself by speaking True Names inherent to the structure of existence. By mastering and invoking True Names, Shapers manipulate the fabric of the world. The process involves discovering True Names, speaking them correctly, and creatively arranging them into Verses, which are constructs of intent and effect.[5]
Requirements
Not just anyone can become a Shaper. The discipline demands:[5]
- Innate talent – Rare individuals like Rain and Lady Nephis have a natural affinity for it.[5]
- Practice and mastery – Even those with talent must practice relentlessly to succeed.[5]
- Endurance, soul power, and willpower – Channeling True Names is taxing and dangerous; failure can harm the user.[5]
- Creativity – While invoking the Names is hard, assembling the Verses is less punishing but requires imagination and artistry.[5]
