Silver Web is the city of the River People. It is located in the delta of the River of Tears and is ruled by Ananke, the Silk Weaver, who is described as "the sorceress who ruled the River People and the Twilight Sea".[2]

Initially called Web, it is a floating city built by the River People in the Stormsea after the Citadel known as the Black Obelisk was ceded to them following their escape from the Tomb of Ariel.[1]

Description

Constructed around the transformed Citadel, the city sprawled above the waves, with the formerly black stone spire turned entirely silver by myriad strands of essence silk. Powerful silk cables extended from the silver spire to support vast floating platforms built from manifested essence. These island-ships contained ornate residences, verdant gardens, and lush fields, while arched bridges connected them across channels navigated by myriad gondolas. The city featured long piers where graceful ships with silvery sails were moored, and its surrounding waters were patrolled by Awakened warriors on swift boats and aquatic Echoes. New islands continued to be constructed along the outer edges of the settlement.[1]

Everything within Web—the gardens, the fields, and the people—was said to emanate a sense of overflowing health and vitality due to the blessing of its ruler, Ananke of Weave, the Silk Weaver. This title was given to Ananke by the River People after they emerged from the Ark Amulets and learned how she had carried them across eternity to the skies of a new world.[1]

Etymology

The name Web reflected the River People's straightforward naming traditions, similar to names such as Weave, Verge, Twilight, and Ark. The city served as the primary home of the River People in the Dream Realm, although some lived in an enclave within Moonveil's city at the estuary of the River of Tears, while others worked throughout the Stormsea helping expand settlements around other marine Citadels.[1]

History

A year after arriving in the Dream Realm, most River People resided in Web and had begun settling into their new lives, though much work remained before they could fully adapt to life outside the Tomb of Ariel. While small compared to major human settlements such as NQSC, Bastion, and Ravenheart (Citadel), Web was a thriving community. During its construction, the River People initially considered building Houses of Youth out of habit before realizing they were no longer necessary in the same way as within the Tomb of Ariel. Nevertheless, they still built a House of Youth and a House of Parting, which served different purposes in the new world while retaining the same essence as their predecessors.[1]
