Barrows

Sunny believed that the tall barrows represented a threat. His wariness was not based solely on the eerie feeling they inspired. More importantly, he noted that the Dark Sea had never reached past the barrows.^[1]

There were two possible reasons why the Dark Sea might have avoided the barrows:^[1]

• One was that the barrows themselves deterred it.
• The other was connected to the sky above: at the boundary where the barrows stood, the starless sky of the Forgotten Shore gave way to a sky still infused with sunlight, as it enjoyed the company of its sun. The presence of sunlight might have played a role in keeping the Dark Sea at bay.^[1]
