Drop of Ichor
Blood Weave
Sunny received a fourth-tier memory, Drop of Ichor, by slaying a Great Devil, Vile Thieving Bird's Spawn.[2][1] It is of unknown rank and type that left him confused if the Spell did not really know or simply refused to let him know. When he tried to look at the runes themselves without the automatic translation of the Spell, the runes were beyond his ability to translate. Weirdly, studying them caused him to feel dizzy and nauseated.[1]
When he consumed the drop of ichor, the golden liquid entered his soul through the pupils.[1] After what feels like an eternity of pain. His vision was slightly different from before and somehow the world seemed deeper. Deep inside his blood, he noticed a barely visible hint of the golden shine. As if the radiant drop of golden liquid he had absorbed was still there, now a part of him, strongly diluted and fused into his own bloodstream. The shine was so faint that he had almost missed it.[3]
Later, he found out that he inherited a part of Weaver's forbidden lineage.[4]Volume 2: Demon of Change
Mysterious Key
Weaver's Mask
In the ruined cathedral of Dark City was a hidden passage leading to a large chamber with a door forged from black steel, illuminated by two burning torches. The torches' light was pale and ghostly with no heat. The shadows cast by the ghostly flames were absolutely still as though the light of the torches had trapped and paralyzed them. Sunny went to open the door without his shadow using the mysterious key he got before.[6]
Behind the door was a small room with a corpse chained to the floor inside a circle wearing a dark mantle and a strange mask covering its face.[6] Near the prisoner were the same runes the Spell used to describe the mysterious Unknown. Only the intensity of the terrible effect they had on the mind of anyone who saw them was much stronger. The last thing the prisoner wrote before succumbing to death, was a short prayer: "Hail Weaver, Demon of Fate, Firstborn of the -unknown-".[7]
The mysterious Weaver whose forbidden lineage he had inherited was, in fact, associated with fate Just like himself. Perhaps calling it a spirit or a daemon would have been more suitable — a mortal, but powerful and ominous deity. One different from gods, but sharing the same nature. Apart from the tantalizing revelation about the mysterious Weaver, he had noticed one other important thing by forcing himself to study the runes. Before, he had thought that there was a single entity that the Spell refused to call by its name and simply described as "-unknown-" — leading him to call it the Unknown. But now, he realized that there were actually two types of forbidden runes and two things that the Spell did not know how or did not want to mention.[7]Volume 3: Prince of Nothing
Harrowing Rot
Golden Needle
On the third-level chamber of the Obsidian Tower, was a table where numerous parts scavenged from the disassembled porcelain arms, several skeins of beautiful diamond string, and a long, narrow needle. It was the needle that gave off a faint, weak radiance. Sunny looked at the needle, then glanced at the floating porcelain arms, noting for the first time that each was missing a part or two.[9]
After gathering the clues and connecting the pieces of information, he felt understood something about what transpired in the Obsidian Tower. Sometime after the Prince of the Underworld had left the hidden island, an uninvited guest had snuck into the black pagoda like a thief, somehow getting past the closed gates without ever opening them or disturbing the seal that had been preserving this place from being ravaged by time.[9]
The thief was a divine creature themselves and also horribly wounded. One of their arms had been torn open and infected by the spreading rot that no one, not even a deity, could expel. That was why the thief had severed their infected arm at the shoulder and tossed it into the divine flame that had been burning in the silver brazier on the second level and then went down to the basement to collect limbs from the broken porcelain dolls. It was that deity that had circled the pile of them and left the footprints in the dust for Sunny to notice. In the end, the thief ascended to the third floor and fashioned a new arm for themselves from the parts of the Prince's discarded mannequins and then sewn it onto their body with the diamond strings threaded through a sharp needle.[9]

Alabaster Phalanx
After the charred flesh of the severed arm finally disappeared, only the alabaster phalanx was left. The bone felt cold and smooth to the touch still with marrow inside, wet and infused with bright golden radiance. The alabaster bone had nothing to do with the Spell, it was an original. Unsure about how to proceed, a certain scene of Saint bit into the black gem of the Black Knight suddenly appeared in his mind. Sunny followed a strange instinct and swallowed the phalanx.[10]
He felt a harrowing pain permeate his entire being. But this time the pain was concentrated in his spine, bones, and marrow. His fingers in particular felt as though there was molten, incandescent, liquid metal flowing through them. With Blood Weave active the pain slowly lessened but the process of transformation continued. After it was finally over, Sunny's body felt more solid, strong, firm, and resilient. His Attribute Spark of Divinity evolved into Ember of Divinity and had a new one called Bone Weave.[10]
He later found out that the phalanx he swallowed was from a divine being and inherited another part of Weaver's forbidden lineage.[11]

— Rune description of Bone Weave, Chapter 451 Bone Weave |
This could potentially explain how Weaver ended up being ghastly wounded, and why they had to sneak into the Ebony Tower in secret. In the end, it seemed as though Weaver alone had turned out to be more terrible than both the six daemons and the six gods combined.[12][11]

Mirror of Truth

Chapter 1122 Mirror of Truth
The appearance of Weaver in the description of the Mirror of Truth is intriguing. His words can be taken as a grain of salt, as Weaver was called the master of lies. However, the Demon of Fate had known about the tomb's existence and had visited it on purpose, causing him to feel a great deal.[14]
As a masterful liar, Weaver knew the value of truth just as well as the Demon of Dread and felt contempt for those who squandered it.[15]
Volume 7: The Tomb of Ariel
Children of Weaver
When the gods and the daemons started their cursed war, Weaver was the only one who refused to participate and when the flames of war started, Weaver was the only one who offered them all a path to salvation.[16]
The Nightmare Spell was created by Weaver to save them from the doom brought by Demons.[16]
The salvation promised to them was the Children of Weaver. The elders who took on the mission of caring for the Nightmare Spell did not genuinely hope to save themselves. Instead, they aimed to save the future, which was still ahead and could be saved.[16]
The Dream Realm was already a dead world, with only Nightmare Creatures inhabiting it. The Spell had even infected Earth with the same plague that had destroyed it, forcing more humans to join it.[16]
Eternal Abyss
“ Weaver believed that knowledge was the origin of power...and that was the reason they had ventured into the eternal abyss. To find the answer to the greatest of secrets. ” ― Ananke to Sunny about the Weaver,
Chapter 1312 Ancient Mural
According to the legends, after the gods sealed the primordial void, Weaver was the only one of those who had entered the eternal abyss and managed to return alive.[17]
The gods had sealed the eternal void, from which they were born. The unknown were creatures of that void, while the Unknown was a specific being that had somehow given life to the seven daemons. The reflection of either was forever frozen in the depths of Weaver's eyes.[17]
Ariel's Secret
Ariel had shared with Weaver that he had buried hideous truths he did not wish to remember. The description of the Mirror of Truth contained Weaver's strange words:[18]
| “ | I have not known that you've built a tomb, nor have I ever seen it. How would I know to admire it? I just happened to be here by chance. Now that I've seen it, my heart is untouched. I feel nothing. You wanted to be free of the truth, so you didn't deserve it. |

Nether's Runes
On the fifth level of the Ebony Tower are carved runes written by Nether for himself.[20][21] The second passage told something about the Weaver.[22]
[Gods created all living creatures, but not all creatures they created carry a divine lineage. Only those born of the gods do, and those born of their descendants. Why have the gods forbidden us seven to sire offspring? Why are we destined for loneliness?
Is it because we are of the Forgotten One, who slumbers in the Void? — Chapter 1752 Reading About Nothing |
Explanation
Sunny discovered the remaining parts of the Weave, including Blood Weave, Bone Weave, Soul Weave, Flesh, Mind, Spirit, and Shadow Weaves. The Weave had been shattered into fragments because Weaver had hidden its existence from the gods by scattering it across the tapestry of fate. The fragments were always fated to be lost, and it was as if Weaver had never possessed them. Soul Weave, found near Oblivion's grave, was destined to be lost to sorrow. Bone Weave, found in the Ebony Tower, was destined to be lost to rot. Blood Weave, granted by the Nightmare Spell for slaying the Spawn of the Vile Thieving Bird, was destined to be stolen by a thief. The remaining four fragments of the Weave ended up, considering their significance in fantasy, fear, respite, and darkness were probably located in Bastion, Ravenheart, Stormsea, and the Underworld.[22]
Thus Spoke Weaver
Sunny had come to the Dark City to read forbidden runes in a solitary cell, where he discovered the Weaver's Mask.[23]
[Thus spoke Weaver
"They will open the Gates" And they did Calling forth doom and destruction upon us Now, in the ruins Gods lay dead And the daemons have fallen The Forgotten One comes Wide awake To consume them]. — Chapter 1762 Thus Spoke Weaver |
More Information
Sunny was disturbed by the runes written in a different script.[23]
"Hail Weaver, Demon of Fate. Firstborn of the Forgotten God."[23]
It revealed that the Demon of Fate, the firstborn of the Forgotten God, was the only deity who refused to participate in the war between the gods and the daemons. Both sides had been annihilated, leaving only Weaver. Sunny recalled the description of Bone Weave and wondered what the Weaver did.[23]
[When children of the Forgotten God rebelled against the gods, Weaver was the only one to refuse the call of war. Despised and hunted by both sides, they disappeared. No one knew where Weaver went and what they did... until it was too late.][23]
Explanation
It was unknown who the mysterious "they" Weaver spoke about, which could be gods, daemons, or someone else. No one knew who Weaver was, so the Spell used the neutral "they" to describe the Demon of Fate. The runes might have described something the elusive daemon had said unless the Weaver had a habit of referring to themselves in the third person. There is an issue with runic language, which did not follow the same pronunciation conventions as human language and influenced the runes. The runes written by the prisoner of the ruined cathedral did not hint that Weaver had been speaking about themselves. Sunny believes Weaver was the most frightening deity, despite not being the most powerful.[24]
Volume 9: Throne of War
Weaver's Lineage & the Forgotten God
Weaver's Lineage is described explicitly as a curse that should never have existed. It originates from the Forgotten God, an entity whose potential return poses a catastrophic threat. The mechanism of his awakening is tied to worship—specifically, the reverence directed toward individuals who carry his blood. This was exemplified by Hope, a benevolent daemon who lived among humans and was deeply loved and worshiped by them. As a result, the Forgotten God's power grew stronger through the adoration she received. To halt the spread of his influence, the gods destroyed Hope's kingdom and imprisoned her in the Ivory Tower.[25]
Volume 10: Dark Lord's Dreadful Travelogue
Weaver's Lineage & Nightmare Spell
Weaver's cursed Lineage and the Nightmare Spell are both deeply tied to the fate of humanity and the nature of the Path of Ascension. Weaver is the creator of both the Nightmare Spell and the forbidden Lineage. This Lineage is referred to as a cursed thing that should have never existed, yet Weaver deliberately scattered it across the "tapestry of fate" for others to find. Sunny believes this was not an accident, but a purposeful act with deep meaning.[26]
The true reason behind the creation of the Nightmare Spell and the cursed Lineage remains unknown, but Sunny suspects it is not simply malevolent. He ponders whether Weaver's curse was actually a form of blessing, or if the Nightmare Spell itself is a Flaw—a designed imperfection that forces those affected to grow stronger. This interpretation aligns with how Flaws are seen in the world: painful and burdensome, yet also transformative. Sunny recalls the description of his lost [Fated] Attribute, which stated that while some are blessed and others cursed, it is rare—but rare—for someone to be both.[26]
From this, Sunny concludes that all Awakened live in a state of balance between blessing and curse, and perhaps Weaver, the Demon of Fate, was bound by the same rule. It's possible that Weaver "wanted to bless the world, but could only do so by leaving a curse behind as well". In this light, the Nightmare Spell and the cursed Lineage are not just tools of suffering, but possibly Weaver's way of giving humanity the means to ascend, even if that path is brutal and uncertain.[26]
Truth or Death
As the world neared its end, an endless white plain stretched beneath a shattered sky, littered with the broken corpses of lesser gods. Rivers of molten gold ichor flowed across fractured ice into an imprisoned ocean. Above, tendrils of nothingness seeped through the fissured sky, devouring the firmament. At the heart of the devastation knelt a colossal figure—a giant deity—clutching his shattered head. His radiant golden eyes were feverish, and viscous grey matter seeped through his massive fingers. His once-beautiful ivory armor was torn, and his spear, still crackling with the echoes of annihilating lightning, lay forgotten on the ice. The deity, whose spirit was as vast as a world, whispered in dread, "I... I am..." before falling silent.[27]
Suddenly composed, he lowered his hands, allowing his broken skull to come undone, and addressed a nebulous figure who appeared before him—Weaver, Firstborn of the Forgotten God, cloaked in a tattered mantle and wearing a fearsome mask. Weaver's voice, like a thousand hopeless prayers, questioned why his brother hid within such a hideous corpse. The giant, now speaking with a voice not his own, revealed himself as the Demon of Dread, taunting Weaver for facing him without fear and questioning his appearance. Weaver, calm and mysterious, responded that since he knew no fear, he questioned what truth he could possess and proposed a game—a game of death. The winner would be owed a truth; if Weaver lost, he would allow himself to be destroyed.[27]
As the dying god shuddered and collapsed, the ice swallowed his body, and a final whisper accepted the challenge. The desolate battlefield faded into nothingness, replaced by a familiar dark room. There, Weaver sat before an exquisite jade board, the darkness pressing in around him. A voice from the shadows asked what truth Weaver sought. Weaver, the Demon of Fate, replied with a thousand-voiced whisper that made the darkness tremble. Raising a porcelain hand, he picked up a white jade figure and revealed the truth he desired: "Do you know how fate can be broken, brother?... That is the truth that I seek."[27]
Relation to Nine
Note: This is Sunny's speculation based on the vision he received in Ariel's Game
Sunny recalled runes left by one of the High Priests of the Nightmare Spell in an underground cell beneath the ruined cathedral of the Dark City. These runes, initially unreadable, were later deciphered after his return to the Forgotten Shore as a Saint. Attributed to Weaver, the runes foretold that "they" would open the Gates, unleashing doom. This prophecy seemed to align with the aftermath: the gods lay dead, the daemons had fallen, and the Forgotten God stirred.[29]
Sunny wondered whether the Forgotten God had been the weapon the Nine intended to unleash, and whether their goal had been to awaken him as revenge against the Empire's tyranny. Still, he cautioned himself—"they" could have referred to the Nine, the daemons, the gods, or even Weaver. Despite all he had discovered, the end of the Doom War remained unclear. He questioned whether the Nine had succeeded, if the Void was truly open, and whether the Forgotten God was awake or still dreaming.[29]
Signs like the spread of Corruption, Nightmare Seeds, and the expanding Dream Realm suggested the Void was open. Yet, Sunny recognized the contradiction—if the Forgotten God were truly awake, all existence would already be consumed. This paradox left him frustrated. He realized a fourth force had influenced the world's fate: Weaver. The Oracle had described Weaver as the Nine's greatest obstacle, possibly opposing their goal to destroy the gods. But knowing Weaver's enigmatic nature, Sunny couldn't be sure if Weaver resisted, manipulated, or used the Nine for their own ends.[29]
End of the Hunt
Note: This is vision Sunny received in Ariel's Game
Sunny witnessed the torment of Weaver, the Demon of Fate, whose cursed, broken body staggered through a dark valley under a starry sky. Bleeding divine golden blood and pierced by a poisoned arrow, Weaver was collapsing — not from the arrow, but from a prior wound inflicted by a far more dangerous enemy.[30]
Then, she arrived — a veiled woman in dark armor, a mortal huntress who had pursued Weaver through fate itself. Though mortal, she loomed large in the great tapestry of destiny. Weaver recognized her, not just as a predator, but as one of the Nine — beings destined to shape fate, oppressors even to demons.[30]
Weaver, beaten and cornered, spoke with bitter resignation, warning of the price for killing a daemon — a price the huntress seemed unaware of. Still, she made her choice. With a clean strike, she ended the daemon's life. The mask shattered into sparks, and Weaver was no more. As the huntress looked to the stars, triumphant yet weary, she was overcome with a strange confusion.[30]
She whispered:"…What task?" — as if, in fulfilling her destiny, she had forgotten what had driven her all along.[30]
Myriad of Stars
Weaver appears amidst a burning apocalypse where a sacred white stag is slain by a shape-shifting predator. Weaver confronts Orphne of the Nine, a broken and dying woman, berating her weakness with scorn and disdain. Yet, instead of finishing her, Weaver revives her resolve through cruel provocation, commanding her to remember only his name — Weaver — and to seek him in the Shadow Realm for their inevitable reckoning. Weaver insists that their conflict is not yet done, denying her the right to die until fate completes its design.[31]
Sunny, the observer of this vision, realizes in shock that Weaver is aware of him, even addressing him directly with chilling words: "Watch well then, epigone. Let me show you... how gods die..."[31]
What follows is a rapid, surreal torrent of visions of cataclysm culminating in Weaver's final journey to the Void Gate in the heart of the Shadow Realm. Weakened and bleeding golden ichor, Weaver is ultimately betrayed and stabbed by the same woman, now veiled and dying, fulfilling a prophecy that seemed both inevitable and defiant.[31]
Yet even in death, Weaver's final trick seems to unfold.[31]
In their last moments, they triggered an unfathomable phenomenon: a spell that reconfigures reality itself. Seven brilliant stars ignite, spreading a tapestry of silver threads across the void, binding constellations, rewriting existence, and leaving a fragment of Weaver's legacy burned into Sunny's very being.[31]
Explanation
Sunny grapples with the overwhelming revelations he received from Weaver. Contrary to what he had believed, Weaver had not been slain by Slayer the first time. Slayer — known as Orphne of the Nine — began to lose her identity after that first killing, likely cursed for taking a daemon's life.[32]
That initial death might have been her personal victory. However, the second death of Weaver appeared to be something entirely different — a deliberate act, possibly orchestrated by the sinister daemon themself. Sunny believed that Weaver had either foreseen or even arranged their own ultimate demise, perhaps because not even they could escape fate, especially when nine Fated paragons of doom, including Orphne, were working to bring it about. Yet even in the face of inevitable death, Weaver had not been powerless.[32]
Weaver had not only accepted their fate but had shaped it. They had shown Sunny — across time — the method to kill gods. This truth, long buried and elusive, is finally revealed to him: "Weaver killed them. Weaver killed them all".[32]
Sunny finally understands what happened to the gods and daemons. Weaver's actions caused their downfall.[32]
Clue Hidden in Plain Sight
Sunny realizes that the truth had always been before him — hidden in the Bone Weave's description. It told of Weaver refusing to join the war of the Forgotten God's children against the gods, disappearing and acting in secret. The mystery of where Weaver had gone and what they had done was now clear: Weaver created the Nightmare Spell.[33]
The Birth of the Nightmare Spell
Sunny recalled the vision gifted to him through the Snow Tyrant's sacrifice: The vast void, the myriad of stars, and the strings of silver light connecting them. It was the birth of the Nightmare Spell or rather its evolution from infant state to the universal force it was today, Weaver's version of an absolute law.[33]
The countless stars burning in the black void were souls of living things — humans, spirits, and deities (brighter ones belonged to spirits and deities) — slowly linked together by the Nightmare Spell, which began as an infant spell. Its spread started subtly, through mortal priests chosen by Weaver during the chaos of the Doom War.[33]
The Spell reached critical mass over time, requiring only a catalyst to evolve — Weaver's death.[33]
Weaver's Sacrifice and the Spell's Completion
When Slayer killed Weaver — the Demon of Fate — before the Void Gate (hidden in the heart of the Shadow Realm), Weaver's seven Divine soul cores became anchors for the great spell woven out of Strings of Fate. This didn't just complete it — it triggered its proliferation. But that wasn't enough. The Spell needed immense fuel to fully mature — and so it devoured the gods and daemons.[33]
The eleven radiant constellations Sunny had seen were six gods and five daemons being absorbed by the silver tendrils of the Spell. By the time they realized what was happening, it was too late.[33]
The Nightmare Spell's True Purpose
Sunny had believed the Spell to be a plague of nightmares for mortals. But he was wrong. The Nightmare Spell wasn't born of mortals' fear — it was the nightmare of the Forgotten God. It was a sorcery created as a lullaby to trap the God of Corruption in endless slumber after the Void Gate was opened (related to the Nine) and the god stirred awake and freed.[33]
Rather than destroy existence immediately, the Forgotten God was imprisoned inside a dream. Nightmare Seeds, Gates, and Creatures are mere byproducts of his slumbering mind — his nightmares leaking into reality.[33]
The Seventh Nightmare
Sunny begins to understand the scale of Weaver's plan. If the Spell was meant to trap the Forgotten God, then there was likely one more Nightmare beyond the Sixth — a Seventh Nightmare, where the god is imprisoned, dreaming.[33]
This ultimate conflict is not about conquest or survival, but the fate of existence itself. The Spell simultaneously traps the god within a Nightmare and nurtures mortals to become gods powerful enough to kill him.[33]
Sunny's Resistance and Individual Purpose
Sunny is stunned by the implications. Weaver didn't just want to kill gods — they wanted to create new gods. And Sunny may be part of that design. But he rejects the idea of being a puppet of a long-dead daemon. He reflects on his and his companions' true goals: not to slay the Forgotten God, but to ensure humanity's survival and build a new home in the Dream Realm.[33]
Becoming a god may be necessary, but confronting the god of corruption wasn't their ambition.[33]
Palace of Imagination
Weaver's reflection had been left in the Great Mirror of the Palace of Imagination thousands of years prior. The reflection appeared as a colossal dark figure, towering at a hundred meters in height and cloaked in a tattered black mantle. It wore a snarling black wooden mask with nothing but darkness in its eyes, and three jagged horns rose from its head like a crown. Its presence was overwhelming, instilling terror in all who beheld it — Morgan collapsed to her knees covering her eyes, Saint shuddered, and Effie paled. Mordret, upon perceiving Weaver's reflection fully through his unique sense for reflections, was instantly destroyed, his vessel (Castellan) exploding into shards under the strain of its immensity. Sunny, in turn, became entranced by the reflection, and when his own image overlapped with Weaver's on the mirror, the surface rippled until only one reflection remained, causing him to black out. Later, Effie remarked that Sunny had "gobbled up a reflection of the Demon of Fate", leaving him unconscious but alive.[34]
Weaver's Scroll
[Weaver was the first one to be born. — Chapter 2718 Garden of Flowers |
Weaver is described as the first being to be born. Their presence is conveyed primarily through an ancient silk scroll, described as the vessel of Weaver's will. This scroll, hidden for thousands of years in the heart of a star, is woven from finely crafted spider silk and contains runes and a blue snowdrop embroidered by Weaver's own hand. It emanated a subdued yet terrifying sense of unrestrained power.[35]
The runes inside narrated a story involving Rime, the first being to die, who escaped the Shadow Realm despite Death's claim. Weaver's method of communication is indirect and symbolic, leaving behind fables and hidden messages rather than explicit instructions or lineage. A subtle irregularity in the silk revealed the phrase "[...A new beginning.]", identified by Sunny as Weaver's will. This hidden message activated Weaver's will to reshape reality, influence the Will of others, and impart significant abilities, as evidenced by Sunny absorbing the Spirit Weave following exposure to the scroll.[35]Volume 11: The Song of Ariadne
Deal with a Demon
Note: In one of the fragmented memories of Cassie, she who wore the visage of Weaver in the memory, witness the deal between Noctis and Weaver in Chapter 2730.
The deal between Weaver, the Demon of Fate, and Noctis was formed when Noctis asked for Weaver's help in slaughtering the Chain Lords, breaking the shackles forged by the Sun God, unleashing Hope upon the world, defying the will of the gods, and ultimately helping him die, offering his heart and any price in return. Weaver agreed to help him break the chains of Hope and defy the gods, but rejected death as payment, declaring that death would not absolve a debt owed to the Demon of Fate. Instead, Weaver demanded his life rather than his death, cursing him to live, to hope, and to serve Weaver, along with "the one in the north". To seal the bargain, Weaver seized a String of Fate from the great tapestry, altered it by force of Weaver's Will, and embedded it into Noctis, piercing his chest and binding him to a new fate as a new heart beat within him. By doing so, she made the will of the Sun God irrelevant, declared that only Weaver's will now mattered, stripped Noctis of his belonging to the gods, and claimed him as Weaver's own, commanding that he call only the name of Weaver.[36]

Third Paradox
- Main article: Third Paradox
Immediately after inheriting Shadow Weave, the Nightmare Spell announced that Sunny had lost seven Attributes before receiving a single new Attribute, [The Weave].[37]
The description of the attribute is the conversation between Weaver and Oblivion concerning the nature of fate.[38] It revealed aspects of Weaver's understanding of fate and suggested that the discussion concerning the possibility of changing fate had originally been initiated by Oblivion rather than Weaver.[39]
["Tell me, oh Demon of Fate," said Oblivion. "How can fate be changed?"
The Demon of Fate laughed, looking at the great tapestry of fate with wonder and fear. "Why would you want to change fate? Fate cannot be changed. Fate cannot be bargained with. Fate cannot be escaped, either, because fate does not know the distinction between the past and the future. Everything that has ever happened, is happening, and will happen is inscribed in the threads of fate, because fate is great, and there is nothing greater than fate." The Demon of Fate looked at Oblivion and said in a nebulous tone, "Mortal men are powerless in front of fate. We, the daemons, are just as powerless as mortals. Even the great gods bow their heads to fate, and those who dwell in the Void are not above it either. Fate rules all, is above all... it is a force that looms above the Flame and the Void, governing both — encompassing all of existence." The Demon of Fate smiled bitterly. "How can the future be changed if time itself is merely a weapon created by the gods, and the gods are powerless against fate? Fate cannot be changed because it doesn't know time. It exists in the flash of a single moment. Fate is not something that is happening; it is something that has already happened. It is an axiom, immutable and inalienable. How are you going to change something that has already transpired, sister? That is impossible." Hearing the Demon of Fate, Oblivion shook her head. "It is possible." The Demon of Fate scoffed and said in a tone of amusement, "What makes you so sure?" Oblivion leaned forward then and said, her voice echoing in the darkness, "The Void is everchanging, and therefore, in its endless permutations, it eventually gave birth to something unchangeable - to the Flame of Desire. That is the paradox of Chaos. Fate is no different. If it truly governs all possible events and encompasses all possible outcomes... then it will give birth to something that cannot be encompassed or governed one day. It will give birth to the paradox that will destroy it. Creating such a paradox - that is how fate can be changed." The Demon of Fate seemed appalled, "A third paradox? What kind of treacherous being can summon it into existence? That thing would have to possess the power of a great god, the curse of a daemon, and be the avatar of fate itself on top of that. Do you think I can create such an abomination, sister?" The Demon of Fate grinned, "Is that a challenge?"] — Description of [The Weave], Chapter 3106 Third Paradox |
Weaver was known as a consummate liar, causing Sunny to question whether anything the daemon said could be trusted. Despite this reputation, Sunny felt that Weaver had been sincere during the conversation with Oblivion. The tone of the dialogue differed noticeably from the Weaver Sunny had come to know, making the Demon of Fate appear much younger and less burdened than in the other glimpses Sunny had witnessed.[39]
Sunny had always believed that Weaver's true ambition was to break fate. This belief was reinforced by the nature of the Nightmare Spell, described as Weaver's greatest masterpiece, which rewarded its carriers for defying fate. The greater the changes made to the fated outcome within a Nightmare, the higher the Spell's evaluation became. However, the conversation recorded in [The Weave] suggested that the original idea of opposing fate, as well as the general blueprint for accomplishing it, had first come from Oblivion.[39]
The description of [The Weave] revealed that Weaver and Oblivion had discussed the possibility of changing fate. Sunny noted that it was Oblivion who first broached the subject, challenging Weaver's assertion that fate was immutable. Beyond that exchange, Sunny admitted that he knew almost nothing about their relationship, questioning what Oblivion had been scheming and how she had died.[39]
Sunny observed that throughout the entire description of [The Weave], the Nightmare Spell never referred to Weaver by name, identifying the daemon only as the Demon of Fate. He wondered whether this meant Weaver had not yet earned the name Weaver when the conversation took place, whether it was merely coincidence, or whether there was another reason he did not yet understand.[39]
Despite Weaver's description of fate as immutable, Sunny recognized that Weaver and Oblivion had nevertheless set the scheme to break fate in motion, while Sunny and Cassie completed it. As a result, the tapestry of fate had been thrown into disarray, and the future, once fixed and immutable, had become unknown and unknowable, creating the paradox described in [The Weave].[39]
