Article contents
Dark Sea of Forgotten Shore is a seemingly elemental sea of pitch-black water that is the embodiment of darkness.[4][5]
Appearance
Background
It is actually the curse of all-consuming darkness born after an unnamed three-eyed figure was murdered.[6] The darkness that had escaped its underground prison and turned into the cursed sea that was coming and going, scared of the light from the artificial sun.[7]
It took untold numbers of young people dying on the Forgotten Shore over the course of two decades to learn the secrets that eventually allowed them to seal the Dark Sea.[2]
It is revealed to be a Great Titan, born from the darkness within a fallen radiant figure (possibly a nephilim or angel) wounded in one of the great war between gods and daemons. The inhabitants of the Forgotten Shore had killed the radiant being where it fallen, releasing a curse that eventually became the Dark Sea.[8]
History
After putting the seventh Oath Key into the lock, the dark sea was sucked into the Spire, along with the twisting tentacles and the harrowing creature.[1]
The colossal crater where the Dark Sea was once on and Sunny, Nephis, and Cassie crossed using a makeshift boat made from demon bones. Near the center of the crater, the ground turned black glass, and at its heart was a round hole led into the earth's depths. This hole likely contained the Dark Sea, which had come from at night and retreated at dawn.[9]
In Chapter 2282, in the heart of the ruins of the Spire was a deep well, its surface was perfectly still and flat, resembling a harrowing mirror made from pure darkness. Subtle ripples occasionally spread across the surface of the imprisoned ocean of darkness, as though it was straining to spill over the edge of the pool and break free.
Trivia
- It was hinted in Chapter 283 that the Dark Sea is in fact a Titan.
- The dark sea of the Forgotten Shore has to be a Great Titan at least.[2] It was confirmed in Chapter 1760.
- The reason for the all-consuming darkness had become a literal sea of impenetrably black water is unknown, but it can be either hundreds of years spent locked away behind the seals had affected it, or the artificial sun had.[7]
- The lock of its seal, the seven shining star sigil, were engraved into the ancient stone gates of Crimson Spire.[10]
- In Chapter 2282, Sunny has studied the well for a year but still no idea about the magic behind the seal. The Seven Heroes were responsible for this seal, although their methods remain mysterious — not runes, Shaping, or weaving.
- Sunny wanted to kill the Dark Sea[11], but the real obstacle is the seal confining the Dark Sea — he fears that if he kills the Titan, he might become trapped in its place.[8]
