They were a group who believe in Daemons, specifically Weaver.

Goal

The priests of the Nightmare Spell helped spread it, trying their best to bestow its gifts on new carriers.[1]

Hierarchy

  • 2 High Priests[2]
  • Unknown number of Priests and Priestess

Ceremonial Garb

They wore Weaver's mask and a dark mantle:[3]

  • Mask of Weaver - part of the ceremonial garb worn by priests and priestesses of the Nightmare Spell to escape that gaze of pursuers and follow the footsteps of the Demon of Fate. The more accomplished a priest was, the higher rank Memory they would be bestowed.[2]
    • The Sacred Memory is a lesser facsimile of the true Mask of Weaver. It only possesses two enchantments.[2]
    • Divine Memories of the Mask of Weaver were only two, entrusted to the High Priest and High Priestess of the Nightmare Spell. Only the two holy Masks had a third enchantment ([Where is my eye?]), which very few ever learned about.[2]
  • Dark mantle[3]

Background

The war turned harrowing and the gods perished. More Outsiders appeared in the Tomb of Ariel after the voices of the gods grew silent. But by that time, the daemon followers were chased upstream and never knew what news they brought to the Tomb of Ariel.[1]

Weaver was despised by all, but that also includes the followers of the gods, the followers of the daemons, and even those who did not want anything to do with the war. The priests of the Nightmare Spell were despised as well. Despite this, some listened to them. The Nightmare Spell is alluring because it gives its carriers many abilities, such as ability to possess Memories and Echoes, ability to instantly enter your Soul Sea, and awaken your Aspect and guidance on the path of Ascension. It promised people who desperately wished for power to defend oneself.[1]

Trivia

  • The priestesses of the Nightmare Spell are the ones responsible to tend, protect and help Nightmare Spell spread during its infancy.[4]
  • They were not welcome anywhere even inside the Tomb of Ariel.[5]
  • "Hail Weaver, Demon of Fate, Firstborn of the Unknown" was first seen in Chapter 277 and was mentioned again in Chapter 1284. Apparently, they are followers of Weaver.
  • These people who dedicated their lives to serving Weaver didn't seem to know much about the being they served even with all the sufferings, mistreatment and persecution.[7]
  • It was believed by the priests that witnessing the eternal void gave the Demon of Fate the first reason to create the Nightmare Spell.[8]
  • The Demon of Fate's sorcery was not something gods, let alone mortals, could easily learn. Few people were proficient in it.[9]
    • One such sorcerer was one of the two High Priests of the Nightmare Spell. According to Ananke's mother, he was a shaper of souls and a master of all kinds of magic.[9]
