Description

At the center of the map, jagged mountains were depicted, shrouded by mist. Directly south of them, an island with a familiar silhouette of a graceful pagoda floated above flames. Even further south, separated from the mountains by a vast emptiness, was a mighty castle.

Far to the west, a snowy peak stood near a fuming volcano, and nestled between them was an arched bridge. To the south-west, a strange ship floated on ghostly waves. South-east of the mountains, divided from them by a long stretch of nothingness, a perfectly symmetrical pyramid was cut into the obsidian wall.

And lastly, to the north, further away than any other image, above all of them, was… a familiar shape. A fearsome mask stared at Sunny, crowned with three horns…Weaver's Mask.

Chapter 454 Hope

Appearance

It was discovered on the fifth level of the Ebony Tower. Its runes and the images were cut into an indestructible stone that even divine fire couldn't destroy.[1]

Depiction

Show/Hide spoilers

The areas on the map seemed disconnected. There were no borders, no terrain, and no measure of distance between them. The ideas of north, south, east, and west were assigned to the map for reference. It could have been the exact opposite, or impossible to apply to the logic of the map altogether. But it somewhat fits with the geography of the Dream Realm. Each of the images had an inscription near them, written in an unfamiliar runic language. It was similar to the one used by the Spell, but also different enough to make translation either impossible or difficult.[1]

The Demon of Destiny had left a map of strongholds built by his siblings in various realms.[2]

The runes and the strange map carved into the obsidian wall on the fifth level of the Ebony Tower shows six landmarks: the Ivory Tower, the Tomb of Ariel, Ravenheart, Bastion, the great vessel for the House of Night, the Underworld, and Weaver's Mask. The other six strongholds are marked by a single rune each. The map could be a realm map, as the daemons built their citadels in different realms. The carving of Weaver's Mask signifies that Nether did not know where his eldest siblings lived or if there was such a place.[3]

Hollow Mountains
Hollow Mountains
The mountains depicted in the center of the map were the Hollow Mountains.[1]
Ivory Tower
Ivory Tower
An image resembling the Ivory Tower, which represented the Chained Isles.[1]

Inscription

The inscription cut into the stone near the image of the Ivory Tower were runes that closely resembled those usually used by the Spell. It was "Desire". The other meaning of the runes was hope. The Ivory Tower had once belonged to the Demon of Hope.[1]
Bastion Castle
Bastion Castle
The castle to the south is Bastion based on its silhouette and appearance that was staged for countless dramas, movies, and webtoons.[1]
Road to Ravenheart
Road to Ravenheart
The great stone bridge nestled between a snowy peak and a raging volcano — was the road to Ravenheart, the great Citadel ruled by clan Song.[1]

Stormsea
Stormsea
The ship sailing on the ghostly waves represented the Stormsea, where the citadel of the third great clan, House of Night, was located.[1]
Pyramid
Pyramid
There was no familiarity with what the pyramid to the east represented.[1]But during the chain of gates in Antarctica, it seemed like the gates are all connected to a new area in Dream Realm filled with blooming Nightmare Seeds and frenzied Nightmare Creatures. A giant black pyramid appeared as a haunting mirage.[4] It was implied in the rune description of Shroud of Graceless Dusk that the black pyramid had something to do with Ariel, the Demon of Dread.[5]

Weaver Mask
Weaver Mask

The seventh image meant Weaver based on the inscription near the depiction of the mask that said "Fate?".[1]

The depiction of Weaver's Mask was drawn on the wall of the Ebony Tower, representing Weaver, was placed north of the Hollow Mountains, above all six strongholds, suggesting no one knew where Weaver's stronghold was or if he had one. So, Nether had drawn it outside the map.[2]

There were seven images on the map that might be the representation of the domains of seven daemons.[1]

Notions

Based on the runes and images on the map, there are three things that can be speculated:

  • The three great clans had inherited their Citadels from three daemons or at least built their strongholds in the regions of the Dream Realm where daemons had once dwelt.[1]
The Citadels of the great clans were left behind by the seven daemons and very important to the Sovereigns.[6]
  • The Underworld, most likely, was situated beneath the Hollow Mountains. This Death Zone was the very dark and cavernous domain to which the Nether had retreated after his conflict with the Goddess of the Black Skies.[9][1]
  • The ruler of the beautiful and prosperous land that had invoked the wrath of the Sun God and doomed their kingdom to destruction and eventually transformed into the Chained Isles, was a daemon, as well.[10][1]

History

Reveal

There were six strongholds depicted on the map Nether had left in the Ebony Tower, each connected to one of the daemons. Sunny mentioned that he visited the tower once more and read more of the forbidden runes surrounding the map as the shape of his life depended on it.[8]
