Hayden

Before the Tutorial, Hayden worked for military. Much like his counterpart, Richard, Hayden rose to leadership by quickly and decisively gathering survivors in the early days of the tutorial. He is also one of the handful of participants to receive the Tutorial Quest "A Leader is Born", challenging the recipient to become the leader of at least 90% of the tutorial participants.

Hayden and Richard did not intentionally set out to fight. But after a number of parties were wiped out by William Hanson, who then framed the opposing faction for the death of the victims, hostilities between the two factions quickly grew. The violence escalated but there still seemed to be a line both sides refused to cross. This line was obliterated when William killed Hayden's son and threw the man's decapitated skull back into Hayden's camp with a taunting message supposedly from Richard. Overwhelmed by grief and rage, Hayden proceeded to go on a campaign of revenge, wiping parties himself with no mercy shown. Hostilities eventually grew to the point that leaving camp was courting death, as anyone you encountered would attempt to kill you, no questions asked.

Hayden desperately wanted to avenge the death of his beloved son. When Richard approached the grieving father and offered Jake as the culprit who started the war, Hayden readily agreed to a joint ambush. When the two camps sprung their trap and attempted to kill Jake, Hayden completely lost himself, enraged. He used all of his most powerful skills. However, Jake counterattacked and escaped, leaving Hayden significantly weakened and surrounded by Richard's murderous crew. Richard's group killed Hayden and as many of his men as possible, with only Desmond and a handful of others escaping.
