Riverborns are those who were born after the Outsiders settled inside the Tomb of Ariel.[1]

Riverborn are those who are beholden to the flow of time within the Great River. They are born inside the Tomb of Ariel and can only travel as far as their lifespans allow, with the only direction being upstream. They are not immortal just because their bodies do not age. The Riverborn do not usually live that long, as life is full of hardship and the waters are dangerous inside the Tomb.[2]

Even if the bodies of Riverborn don't age, they are still humans who are not immortal. If they live too long, their souls grow weary and want to rest in the embrace of Shadow.[3]

Despite being attentive and earnest artisans, the Riverborn were clearly much less sophisticated than their ancestors.[3]
