Sybils were the heralds of the gods and conduits of divine grace. Many mysteries, as well as many truths, were known to them.[2]

Responsibilities

Initially, three sybils ruled Fallen Grace and each had different responsibilities. The senior sybil is the guardian of truths overseeing a vast library.[3]

Background

According to the rune description of Shroud of Graceless Dusk, the sybils sought salvation, abandoned the mortal realm, and guided their people to the Tomb of Ariel. They found solace and shelter there, but as the gods' voices grew silent, they embraced the Estuary, leading to their fall.[2]

The Defilement spread from the Estuary, consuming Verge, the city of the Seekers. The Sybils and their people waged a war against them, causing most of their cities to fall. The sybils were formidable at the height of their power, but their power ended up becoming their undoing. The most stalwart cities fell to the sybils themselves, as they were corrupted by glimpses of the Estuary and succumbed to the rot.[1]

Trivia

  • Dusk is the last sybil of the Estuary.[2]
  • Sybils maintained detailed maps and records of the Great River, including every city, settlement, and stronghold of a powerful Seeker.[3]
  • Sybils had their own transcript system.[4]
