Zach Noveda

He is the only heir to Noble House Noveda, socially powerful, though his family was weakened by the death of most of its members. They fared poorly in the Splinter Wars because they underestimated firearms and because they had a strong military tradition and a deep connection to the royal family that led many of them to conscript. The Weeping damaged them further, resulting in only a single survivor (Zach) representing the whole house. He doesn't get along well with Tesen Zveri (his guardian), and sometimes beats him in fights at the start of loop in earlier chapters, claiming this is due to "personal disagreements". The reason for that is later revealed: Tesen Zveri siphoned wealth out of House Noveda.^[1]

Zorian suspects someone has modified his memory and as such he is not a reliable source of aid to him earlier in the loops, but did accept Zach teaching Zorain the spells magic missile, flamethrower and shield.

It is later found out that someone has erased his memory of a particular student, Veyers.

He's confident, experienced and used to be filled with slight arrogance while growing his abilities before his ego was grounded by the fatigue in the loop. At the start of the story he's a bit of a ditz but he learns to take precautions for the hidden time travelling adversary he gets knowledge of.

His innate nature is to be easygoing and often going into a situation without any plans in mind, relying on versatility and his opponent's unpreparedness if he has to face them in another loop. He even gets thrilled when encountering a new type of challenging opponent like the hydra. Though he intensely dislikes when his friends hide secrets from him when it's unjustified.

Extremely skilled, but before the time loop he was a pretty crappy mage. Could cast 232 magic missiles without running out at one moment,^[2] presumably can cast a few more after the time loop. Here is a quote that sums it up.

Zach didn't even try to avoid the monsters, simply plowing through them like an angry god out for vengeance. At one point they were even attacked by a horde of skeletons and an enemy mage, but Zach simply made the earth beneath their feet open up and swallow them.^[3]

During one loop he even killed a powerful dragon. He knows many combat spells and various other spells such as "create mud people". He also has extensive knowledge of alchemy and spell formula, but only the parts that interest him, mostly combat magic related. He eventually became aware of his own soul enough to cast simulacrum.

How he can have such huge reserves and still maintains shaping skills enough is initially unknown. Some people suspected this to be an effect of the Noveda bloodline, which would show up irregularly. His impossibly huge mana reserves are later confirmed to be due to a blessing given by the angels, as part of his contract with them. The blessing they gave him is like the one Quatach-Ichl was granted - a sort of stabilization frame made out of divine energy, encircling the soul. Somehow, this allows the target to store and regenerate more mana without hurting their shaping skills. Nearly undetectable through classical magic, just like all divine works, but the fact it interacts with one's soul means that skilled necromancers can eventually learn how to perceive it through soul perception.
