Ebony Tower

On the fifth level of the Ebony Tower are carved runes written by Nether for himself.[1][2] The second passage told something about the Weaver.[3]

Second passage
[Gods created all living creatures, but not all creatures they created carry a divine lineage. Only those born of the gods do, and those born of their descendants. Why have the gods forbidden us seven to sire offspring? Why are we destined for loneliness?

Is it because we are of the Forgotten One, who slumbers in the Void?

Where is the Void, and where is its Gate? How did Weaver enter it, and what did Weaver see?

Why did Weaver decide to break the will of the gods and create a lineage?

Blood, bone, flesh. Soul, spirit, mind. And shadow.

The gods shall discover the transgression, but they cannot.

That is because, having created a lineage, Weaver does not possess a lineage. It has been lost and will be lost, therefore having never been in Weaver's possession. One cannot be punished for something that has never been.

A piece is lost to fantasy, a piece is lost to fear. A piece is lost to respite, a piece is lost to darkness. A piece is lost to sorrow, a piece is lost to rot. And finally, a piece is stolen by a thief.

Weaver's defiance is elusive, just like Weaver is.

But mine will be different.]

— Chapter 1752 Reading About Nothing

Explanation

Nether, the youngest sibling, and Weaver, the oldest, had decided to defy the gods differently. Weaver pursued the creation of divine lineage, while Nether pursued the creation of living creatures.[3]

Sunny discovered the remaining parts of the Weave, including Blood Weave, Bone Weave, Soul Weave, Flesh, Mind, Spirit, and Shadow Weaves. The Weave had been shattered into fragments because Weaver had hidden its existence from the gods by scattering it across the tapestry of fate. The fragments were always fated to be lost, and it was as if Weaver had never possessed them.[3]

The remaining four fragments of the Weave ended up, considering their significance in fantasy, fear, respite, and darkness were probably located in Bastion, Ravenheart, Stormsea, and the Underworld.[3]

After the Throne War

Sunny's current predicament stemmed from his inheritance of Weaver's forbidden lineage—an ancient and tainted gift from a mysterious daemon considered by Anvil to be a cursed abomination. This lineage forced Sunny to remain hidden and avoid attracting attention. However, since he was already bound by the curse, he reasoned that fully embracing it could only serve to empower him further. The daemons were known to humanity, though always as enigmatic and distant figures overshadowed by gods and other divine or unholy beings. Trouble only arose when one of them, Hope, became too close to mortals. Now, with only three Supremes left in the world and none above them, Sunny revealing his true nature would draw far more scrutiny than ever before.[4]

So far, Sunny had uncovered three of the seven pieces of the Forbidden Lineage—Blood Weave, Bone Weave, and Soul Weave—each one enhancing his power and saving his life repeatedly. The remaining four pieces—Flesh, Spirit, Mind, and Shadow—still eluded him. He believed the first three were hidden in the Great Citadels of Ravenheart, Night Garden, and Bastion, which were tied to the Demons of Dread, Repose, and Imagination. The final piece, Shadow, was likely tied to Broken Sword's downfall and buried deep in the Underworld.[4]

These pieces were described cryptically in runes left by Nether, the Demon of Destiny, in the Ebony Tower—fragments of a deeper mystery surrounding Weaver's defiance of the gods and the origin of his lineage. The riddle hinted at where the pieces were lost: to fantasy, fear, respite, darkness, sorrow, rot, and theft. Sunny had already recovered those lost to rot (Bone Weave), sorrow (Soul Weave), and theft (Blood Weave).[4]

Now that the chaos of ruling humanity had stabilized, Sunny could finally resume his search. Though the Underworld seemed the most dangerous, full of darkness and resistant to his powers, the enigmatic mirror maze beneath True Bastion unnerved him more. With Night Garden located in the waking world and therefore harder to access, he decided to begin his journey at Ravenheart—the Jade Palace of the Demon of Dread. Once all the pieces were collected, he would return to the Tomb of Ariel to confront whatever awaited him there.[4]
