At first, the first shadow had an eccentric temper and rarely did something without a reason. When Sunny ate the fruit of the Soul Tree, it refused to mimic his actions which implied that something was wrong with the fruit.
The first shadow had palpable disdain towards Caster and was visibly pleased when Sunny ordered it to shadow Nephis. It even bowed gallantly to her shadow.
The first shadow was the one who informed Sunny about the soul-damaging quality of the sun in Forgotten Shore.
| 887-888 | The haughty shadow stood between the civilians of LO49 and the Bone Slayer by turning corporal, preventing the nightmare creature from further attacking. It was pierced in the side by the creature, which Sunny received a soul wound from.[1][2] The other shadows fussed around it, but the arrogant guy pretended not to care but was secretly enjoying the attention.[2] |
After Sunny nearly dies from being killed by Goliath, Happy Shadow is distraught even after Dying Wish heals Sunny, while the other three show abnormal positivity, including the gloomy one.
When Sunny was spying on the legacies during Antarctica Campaign, the haughty shadow was following Morgan, the happy shadow was following Madoc, the gloomy shadow had been sent to spy on Beastmaster, and lastly, the creepy shadow was assigned to Ascended Bast. | 1471 | The crazy shadow scratched its head, twitched, shrugged, and laughed maniacally before returning to normalcy after Sunny questioned its madness. | 1590 | Happy Shadow replaced Soul Serpent in Rain's shadow. (Rain's Shadow)
Using Gloomy Shadow, Sunny controlled his incarnation to explore the shadow realm.[3] The black arrow wound Gloomy Shadow had sustained in Chapter 1955 proved resistant to healing. Although Saints typically recovered quickly from non-lethal injuries, this particular wound remained stubbornly unhealed. It wasn't worsening, but it showed no signs of improvement either.[4]
Sunny released control of his incarnation, preferring not to divide his focus among multiple bodies.[5] The shadows, momentarily uncontrolled, exchanged confused looks until one, the "naughty" shadow, joyfully celebrated by performing a triumphant spin and casting a smug look at its companions.[5] The "haughty" shadow, typically disdainful, held back its usual glare, lifting its chin in quiet pride as if approving its master’s recent accomplishment.[5] The "crazy" shadow seemed uncharacteristically happy and overexcited, while the "creepy" shadow remained puzzled and somewhat bored, silently questioning why they weren’t focusing on more serious tasks, like starting a fight. Despite this, he contented himself with studying human anatomy, finding it oddly fascinating.[5]
Haughty, Naughty, Creepy, and Crazy Shadows briefly reunited with Happy Shadow.
| - | It was mentioned in Chapter 2413 that it was the Naughty Shadow who was with Kai and Slayer inside Ariel's Game. |
Sunny beheld an imprisoned Unholy Nightmare Creature on the verge of breaking free, but the creature's gaze corrupted one of his Shadow Cores before it impaled and destroyed his incarnation.[6] He had lost a Shadow Core becoming a Terror again. One of his seven shadows, crazy shadow, had also been destroyed.[7]
Sunny granted independence to his Shadows by removing their Shadow Cores from his soul and embedding them into their own souls, allowing their existing cores to become complete. After completing the process, he consumed a great number of his shades to restore the Shadow Cores he had lost. A great number of shades vanished in the process, diminishing the power of his Domain, although innumerable shades remained.
